Why Battlefield Bad Company 2 Has Failed

For full disclosure, let me begin by stating that by some people's standards - I may be considered a Battlefield fan boy. My veteran status sits at 9 and I have lost many days of my life playing what I consider some of the best war games ever made. Just like a relationship in your "Real" life goes - a close relationship can bring plenty of happiness and love, but can also bring a lot of disappointment and make you just plain pissed off. For those of you who follow me and my videos, you are probably well aware that lately my relationship with Battlefield has been on the rocks.

The other day while browsing

I dont think it failed that much, besides the DLC prices and content though, those fail

deadreckoning6665042d ago (Edited 5042d ago )

It hasn't failed. Its still the best war game I've ever played. But it still has its flaws....particularly the players who play it like its Modern Warfare 2 or don't know how to work as a team.

A tutorial from DICE would have helped alot. Also, they could have added some sway to the sniping to separate the skilled players from the noobs. Any idiot can just pick up a sniper and get a mass amount of kills.

Also, if there are TEN snipers on one team...then why the fuck don't I see TEN mortar strikes going off at the same time!!!??

@Hellsvacancy- The VIP code worked perfect for me. I actually waited a few days to activate it once I heard about the problems. Maybe u shuld have done the same :/

"the DLC prices and content though, those fail"

No, the prices are actually just right. The people who are dumb enough to eliminate the fun of getting unlockables by purchasing all the unlocks without EARNING them, deserve to pay ridiculous prices. Getting new guns is part of the fun of ranking up...however if ur so worried about KDR(not fun) then you deserve to shell out massive amounts of cash.

@Grewulf- YUP, thats what I'm gunna start doing. I swear, I've seen people who are just clueless as to whats going on in Rush. A taNk blows everything up and no does ANYTHING(no rockets, no mines, no nothing)

HammockGames5042d ago (Edited 5042d ago )

Because it didn't outsell MW2? Who cares - that doesn't make it less of a game.

I can't speak to the DLC - I rarely buy DLC unless it's on sale or something like that.

The graphics, gameplay, and destructibility were excellent, IMHO. Personally, I enjoyed it more than MW2.

I'll admit that I was frustrated at launch (I had the VIP code problems, actually). But that was more minor annoyance than actual detraction from the gameplay. Overall, I thought BC2 was great.

Looking forward to Battlefield 3 now.

pustulio5041d ago

It's actually a pretty awesome game but to be honest im sick of the same things on the same maps that's why i stopped playing it.

Another reason is the VIP stuff is retarded why not put the SPECTACT camos and guns in VIP? Aside from that theres no DLC at all.

And the "Shortcut kits" are so stupid now i see some guys level 2 with an M16 and all the things i worked for and they did nothing but ask mommy for some points and then bum they got everything.

Now we just have to wait and see how Vietnam turns out.

kancerkid5042d ago

An expansion is coming out that everyone seems to forget. Love this game. Forget MW2

Greywulf5042d ago (Edited 5042d ago )

A lot less n00bs.. It took me a while to warm up to bad company(skipping the first one) But BC2 is pretty damn good.

You can't really run & gun in this game, or run & pilot helicopters. I don't quite see the MW2 n00blets in it, as much as anyone describes. But that could just be the modes Im playing? I play point control or whatever variant that is... and rush? I think n00bs stick to Team death match.

I enjoy it thoroughly..
even for a multiplat

;)

jjohan355042d ago

Playing the game on hard/hardcore essentially turns it into MW2: no tagging, no coordination with your teammates for teamwork, getting killed in two bullets, etc.

The game itself on regular mode is great, both in conquest and rush. However the DLC content has been very disappointing, both the free VIP stuff and the paid content. The constant recycling of old maps into different game modes really shortened the lifespan of the game, plus the fact that everything is unlocked before reaching level 30 (less than 48 hours of online play) didn't help either.

n4gno5042d ago

exactly johan, the guy is seeing "noob" everywhere, but it' s probably a noob if he don't see your point (deathmach in normal mode is less noob than anything else by the way)

rush would be better with a real X2 points victory, without, it's call of campers fest, making easy kills and points without playing the game and strategy.

tokugawa5042d ago (Edited 5042d ago )

what does that have to do with anything??

lol, imo both bc and bc2 stomp every console exclusive shooter so far released this gen! i dont get it anymore. there seems to be a hardcore fanboy contingent on here that refuses to accept anything unless its exclusive to their console.. sad

i'm sorry, but there are plenty of studios out there that are not first party, but absolutely piss all over any of the platform holders own studios!!!

and again i have to disagree, people that are not very good tend to play hardcore because getting kills are easier.

But I can tell you that DICE/EA didn't live up to the trash they were talking.

Forget the multiplayer map issues and the lag and problems at launch for a minute....

The single player alone is enough to cause a justifiable call of "fail". Way to short and way too cliche.

The single player should have been better than it was. It didn't suck, but it left alot to be desired, especially with the potential of the game, engine and characters.

They talked the talk, but didn't quite complete the walk here.

In general, the article is correct.

*back to BATTLEFIELD BAD COMPANY 2 now*

BattleAxe5042d ago (Edited 5042d ago )

I agree with the article 100%. I also feel the same way about the first Bad Company, but the only 2 things I think made the first one better were the larger maps and a bigger single player campaign. 1943 was a let down also with no extra support after it was released and with a a chat system that doesn't work on the PS3 version. I also traded in BC1 and BC2, but I still have CoD4, CoD:WaW and MW2.

fossilfern5042d ago

wtf how did this game fail? i have it on PC and its great the MP is fast and over the top its a real solid game

dillydadally5042d ago

This article misses the number one reason this game failed - it's not accessible. The first time you log into CoD, you know exactly what to do. You may get owned, but you know - point gun, shoot. In BFBC2, you don't know what your objectives are, can't figure out how to pilot the vehicles or blow up ones, get killed quickly, and the gun bounces all over the place with recoil (which I actually prefer - CoD's way too noob friendly). Now while some of these are actually symptoms of great features, DICE didn't do a good job of getting players into the game to understand their role and teach them how to play. I felt pretty lost for a while and friends I tried to get to play just couldn't get into it.

It also seemed like all you were doing was blowing up vehicle and vehicle and they kept spawning. That's just not fun.

badz1495042d ago

but the short single player really pissed me off! I'm not much of the MP type but I enjoyed the 1st BC SP so much and obtained all the SP trophies for the game. normal and hard difficulty are not linked in the 1st but I enjoy it so much both times and why the hell do they think making the sequel a shorter game is beyond me! so much for the "not short SP" promise there huh?

mcstorm5042d ago

This Game was no fail it just dose not have the name MW2 had but I think next time round it will sell more than 6 milion.

I think this game was far better than MW2 in every way and I still play BC2 Halo3/ODST online for my shooters and never been bored of playing them where I see the online play for MW2 poor and no where near as fun as BC2.

I know they had problems with the online at the beginning but I just played through the main game until it was fully up and running and better late then never.

Hellsvacancy5042d ago

Yes, it failed (me anyway)

Bought it day-1, entered the VIP code it said "successful" but then EVERY time i played it online "please enter your VIP code" SCREWED ME

As for actually playin it, well, i had 2 invent a system so i could play a full game, id hav 2 create a squad, start a game, wait till i get get kicked out (connection error) and then join again, i couldnt play online on my own, itll just kick me out 15 mins in2 it

After i got the Platinum trophy i sold it (£7)

maniacmayhem5042d ago

This game was fun up until everyone kept being the sniper class.

Dee_915042d ago

sneaking up killing snipers

crematory5042d ago

guess what this the main thing made me trade it in

Persistantthug5042d ago

Yes, there can be more recons than there should be, but now they more reward players for actually doing the objectives.

That's the part that drove me crazy....that they were rewarding people for being pussy recons more than they were rewarding the soldiers who were defending and/or arming the objective crates.

Recons tend to get the less points now.

AstroZombie15042d ago

Just because it isn't on the list does NOT mean it has failed the BF series is its own game it does not have to be popular to be successful, like it for what it is not for what it isn't.

UnRated5042d ago

I don't see how it has failed. There was no way it was going to sell more than Modern Warfare 2. I think Bad Company 2 is a better multi-player game but it is also harder to get into it.

There are no "thoughtful" ads in video games, EA

There are no thoughtful ads in Video Games, EA. Leave them be.

I think the only type of games that can gets away with it would be sport games, having those sponsors ads on the side like on real life.

But don't put freaking Doritos ads in Star Wars or something, it breaks the immersion. If it is a pop-up ads, then big no.

Hofstaderman12d ago

EA can thoughtfully eff themselves.

Makersbreath212d ago

EA coming back for the crown of being perceived as the worst company in gaming.

Chocoburger12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

One of my favorite series is the THPS franchise, and it was packed with ads, but it didn't bother me. Posters for skateboard companies, JEEP, and Nokia phones. It did sort of fit in with the game world, but that was the past, these days ad would be intentionally intrusive or unskippable loading screen type of imagery. Ugh, I know EA would do it in a horrible fashion. Screw them.

Report: Sexual Misconduct Investigation Conducted at EA, Suspects Named and What They Did Revealed

EA senior staff has been investigated for sexual misconduct involving female coworkers, and these said people have been named publicly.

isarai18d ago

Aye just call Phil, i mean he somehow made Bobby Kotick's scandal disappear and gave him a few million dollar high five on the way out.

Cacabunga17d ago

I wonder if it will be censored with some in game ads.

MrBaskerville15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

Microsoft did, Phil Spencer played a minor part. He instigated the buyout that led to Kotick escaping all his controversies while getting a golden handshake.

Someone on Twitter calculated that the people hired in Tango and Arkane Austin could get a decent salary for roughly 17 years for the money Kotick was paid.

InUrFoxHole15d ago

Yeah some thing tells me Kotics $ was already guaranteed before MS made the deal. As for the studios... Let's be honest here... none of those studios made system sellers.

XiNatsuDragnel18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

EA about to go down like Activision and then Phil saves the day saying.this is good for the industry and consolidation will help create competition. /s.

MrBaskerville15d ago

Then they shutdown Codemasters and studio behind Jedi Survivor.

Atleast they could hardly do much damage that EA hadn't allready done. EA has shut down most of their studios by now.

ravens5218d ago

What's up with all these horny creeps. You gon be horny, fine. Just not at work take care of that shit before you go in. Rub one out if you have to. Don't be a creep at all. ESPECIALLY at work. But don't be one AT ALL.

Extermin8or3_17d ago

I mean part of the issue is that things transpired outside of work....

MrBaskerville15d ago

That's the thing he mentioned about not being a creep at all.

KwietStorm_BLM17d ago

You think deviants care where they are? Work sometimes makes it an even better situation for them because they can abuse their power.

mudakoshaka17d ago

Nerds think they are Gods when they are making video games.

NotoriousWhiz18d ago (Edited 18d ago )

"it seems that according to EA, given the events transpired outside of work between two adults, and the fact that once investigation has started that the alleged perpetrators didn’t do it again, the investigation is considered closed. [...] The victim still has to work with the people that harassed her."

Yep, EA is disgusting.

Extermin8or3_17d ago

I mean the fact stuff happened outside of work puts EA in quite a difficult position legally. These women don't seem to have reported the matter to the police which kinda ties EA's hands on what they can do. If they don't file reports of the crimes then yeah from EA's perspective it is stuff that happened outside of work. The only exception is the guy that apparently referenced things in the slack channel for work, spending on what he said proving it may be very hard and he may well be able to get away with plausible deniability. I don't like EA and I think these people need to be dismissed but without any legal action being taken, EA can't really do much without risk of being sued themselves for unfair dismissal etc.
