Sales Charts: PS3 Outselling Xbox360 Weekly

The latest from VG charts for the week ending August 5th 2007 shows the PS3 outselling the Xbox360 in just about every region with the exception of australia. When cycling back through the previous weeks before that you will notice the charts reflect a trend. A change in sales performance for Sony's Playstation 3 who's direct competitor is Microsoft's Xbox360. The Nintendo DS and Nintendo Wii dominate the charts as well outselling all competition but most do not consider them direct competitors the Playstation 3 and Xbox360 due to price point, target consumers and type of gaming experience.

Pay attention. Read the title of the chart. It's the European + Australian chart, does NOT include North America or anywhere else.

JIN KAZAMA6133d ago

Japan is a given for PS3. So, its just a matter of time before it reflects worldwide. PS3 will be outselling 360 on a consistant basis for a looong time.

Martini6133d ago

Actually it is correct, if you look at the weekly worldwide hardware chart PS3 has been outselling 360 for the last copule weeks.

masterg6133d ago (Edited 6133d ago )

I just looked through all the weeks since the PS3 was released.
Every single week the PS3 won in Europe.

What I don't understand is the fact that I have heard TheMart say time and time again that the 360 was selling better in Europe.

It's official.. TheMart you're a freaking liar.

nasim6133d ago

MS should pull out of the console biz

poor x360 and MS

uxo226133d ago (Edited 6133d ago )

So why does this same thing get posted each week. When does repeat news become old news? It's not to spread the news, it's strictly to flame 360 owners.

WilliamRLBaker6133d ago

last i checked, the 360 was outselling often the ps3 in every region except japan, and to the fact the only times the ps3 sold big was at launch...then it dropped by something like 80% in sales a week or 2 after launch, and doesn't it seem fitting that the only time ps3 has outsold the 360, in america and europe is american had a price cleanrance (cough) and europes own stores lowered the price without sonys permission.

Lumbo6133d ago

@William:

http://vgchartz.com/eweekly...

he is right you know, since the release in march the PS3 sold more than the X-Box360 in theEU every single week till today, so that other info you had seems kinda flawed.

The amount sold more was not the issue, cause clearly the much higher US X-Box360 sales more than made up for the PS3 numbers in Europe, until the PS3 managed to go ahead the X-Box360 in the week ending 08th July 2007.

or until the price drop happens, and their big titles come out

EZCheez6133d ago

But I really doubt the price drop of the XBox 360 will have anywhere near as significant of an impact as the PS3 price drop. It's really only a big deal when the most expensive becomes cheaper, not the one that is already cheap.

Also, as much as I want to celebrate and let the fanboy in me rejoice, I will remain humble and remind myself that one month does not win a console race.

uxo226133d ago

And the reason why is because the PS3 is finally at the price that it should have been at from the beginning. The thing was over priced until now. It'll be interesting to see if Sony will allow it to continue or if they will try to return to making a fortune on this things.

What will really tell the story is when the 60 gig supply is depleted, (which I don't think is going to happen because Sony is probably producing more as we speak. Which really does make this a PRICE CUT.) to see how the 80 gig 599.00 price point will be accepted.

Lightning Mr Bubbles6133d ago (Edited 6133d ago )

But I'm not too over confident about this. I know XBOX 360 sales are gonna go up once it drops it's price. depending on how monthly sales go, I wouldn't be surprised if PS3 cuts price again or does some special offers during the fall.

I do feel pretty confident that Sony will be willing to do whatever it takes to hang in there with 360 sales. I think their early launch and arrogant woes are behind them, as they saw a few months of 80k sales. That changed things real fast for them.

Kuest6133d ago (Edited 6133d ago )

At least you can be honest.

Concerning this article, WHAT the HELL is going on w/ all these VG articles? When did it become a reliable source. Once, the NPD numbers come in, then we all should have something to talk about.

Moreover, how does one month of rising sales equal a continuing trend for the future. Keep in mind that the 360 just dropped its price and though its not much of a price drop ($50?), it is highly likely that that Xbox will also experience some modest sales growth. And I'm not going to even mention September.

BubblesDAVERAGE6133d ago

I still dont think it will give the 360 the boost it needs but i could be wrong...wiht the core being as about the same as the wii and the sales still arent as good makes me wonder...but i guess we will see at the end of august

Frances-the-Mute6133d ago

a price drop is a price drop, if it involves paying less, consumers are likely to pay when they see an opening

Raptors6133d ago

@ Lightning

Bubble for you. I think another point is Halo 3 coupled with a price drop (official tomorrow) is gonna send a spike in sales for the 360. No matter what system you own it's good time to be a gamer.

KingME6133d ago (Edited 6133d ago )

they should release the Halo3 console with a copy of Halo3 at the new xbox 360 elite price. Then they should turn around and do the same thing with MASS EFFECT and GTA4 limited edition consoles with those games included.

That my friend would sell consoles.

A creative comment in a thread like this! Bubble up!

eLiNeS6133d ago

I say we all give it a try. At the end of the day where all gamers aren't we. We have two great truly next gen consoles that most will end up with both anyway someday so it makes since to be civil about them.

Bubbles all around!!!

I'll wait for NDP, thank you.

Lightning Mr Bubbles6133d ago

is just sales of North Amercian only.

mikeslemonade6133d ago

VG charts is close enough to say which system is outselling who, but they won't get within the 5,000 unit accuracy. The cost gap between the 360 and PS3 is going to narrow eventually and the 360 core is phasing out. This is only the beginning for the PS3's success.

heavymetal3k6133d ago

Should link to worldwide, cause ps3 sold 20k+ more than 360.

I wonder what place made this study, and it's Fandom, no wonder half of the people said that, I find it hilarious that Fandom of all places did manage to pull more than 50% for the argument of playing games for self expression

phoenixwing23h ago

Honestly i don't believe this statistic. All we need is an executive to believe it and they'll focus more on how to "express" ourselves over good gameplay and further ruin gaming.

FinalFantasyFanatic22h ago

I actually just play to relax/have fun, get immersed in another world for a while and enjoy the story/characters, who the hell plays to "express themselves"? I can understand how that applies to say Minecraft, where you're actually making things, but I don't think you can apply this to most games.

gold_drake6h ago

express themselves? eh... how so? that doesnt make sense to me at all.

It's an outstanding game and so was The Old Blood. Also a lost era of gaming. Interesting, I received a physical copy of The Old Blood 9 years ago today from Poland. It was digital only in North America initially upon release so I had to import.
