Xbox 360 Not Wanted As Much As Wii/PS3 Amongst Teens For Holiday Earlier today we reported on the Game Crazy 2009 games wishlist survey here at Blend Games. In addition to the games wishlist, Game Crazy also released data on a console wishlist as well, and it appears that tweens and teens have very little interest in the Xbox 360, or rather, none at all.

I think it would be easy for teenagers to convince their parents to get a PS3 because it is an all-in-one entertainment package. Comes with BluRay, Wifi and has a great lineup of video games!

Some of your points are valid and others are just opinion. Overall when they were different prices I wouldnt have been surprised at 360 selling better than ps3. Now that they are equally priced I feel ps3 will sell more this holiday. I dont even count the arcade as a viable sku in this.

MS is fighting in two rings at the same time. Low end Arcade vs the Wii for the same price. High end elite vs ps3 slim for the same price.

Apart from that, don't we always hear this every year. Both Sony and Nintendo has much stronger brand recognition so this is no surprise. Also, I can't seem to find the actual survey information on gamecrazy's site.... They didn't properly link it.

I'm very surprise, teen dont care about media capability, all they care about is playing games with their friends which xbox 360 deliver. Maybe parent with multiple kids are not happy with $50 per person each year, and they found out PS3 is free. so might as well pushes PS3 to the kids.

Wii is a huge popular trend. It's cool to get a Wii at home if you are not a hardcore gamer among teens. So Microsoft cant compete with that.

Now Teens want to make a big jump with the Ps3 because is affordable, Blu-Ray Disc and the immense variety of games are a real Plus, they can safely say to their parents that they're not gonna pay $50 per year to play online and they are more tech friendly, they know more stuff than their parents so is more easy to convince them and they don't want to get RROD/ jk

A Kid/Teen/Individual who got a PS2 will buy a PS3 because he knows the games available on the PS2 that got sequels on the PS3 will never be released on another console, is a logical fact that a person who play GOW + GOW2 and love those games, will want to play GOW3 and is not over here because at same time he will enjoy new games he never experimented before

Playstation owner knows pretty well those facts, even in 2006 when everyone said, PS3 has no games a real Playstation owner knew from the begining that was an small issue, look now how great is the line-up of games only available on PS3

There's no denying that the PS3 has great games, but many of the franchises that were exclusive on PS2 (Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, etc.) went multiplat this gen. I actually think that's a big reason the 360 sold so well over the past couple years - gamers were anticipating more games to go the 360 and Wii.

First off, hanging around with 18-19 year olds...*shudder* I swear to god I was never that young.

Secondly, they're all gamers but most of them already have PS3's. If they don't, they want them but being students that might not happen anytime soon. A few still game on the 360, but I haven't talked to anyone that wasn't looking forward to getting a PS3 as soon as finances allow. Other than that I only know one other person with a 360 other than myself in my circle of thirty-something friends and he just bought a PS3 2 months ago.

Wii's? Nada. I haven't met a single person in my classes that games on the Wii. Most just scoff at the idea.

The 360 is slowly losing its popularity.. I went to Best buy today to pick up Ratchet and Clank and Tekken 6.. Saw 2 people carrying PS3s to the check out counter, a guy behind me was also buying Ratchet and Clank, in the PS3 games section there was me and 4 other people looking at PS3 games while only 2 other people in the 360 games section looking at games.

I think from here on out the PS3 will be seen as the console of choice for true gaming while the 360 has peaked in my opinion.

and TRU was sold out of Uncharted 2 here as well. I ordered it online the same day but got an email an hour later aying they were on backorder. I received the 2 other games 3 days after I placed my order but UC2 arrived in the mail yesterday.

Good thing I got it from Gamefly to hold me over until it got here. TRU only had enough for their stores (at least that is what they told me at the 2 stores in my area) and they ran out before I got there.

I took advantage of Best Buys 3 for 2 deal online today. I purchased R&C:ATIC, Tekken 6 and Forza 3 online at 9am, went to the local Best Buy at 10am, went to the CS desk, gave them my order number and walked out with them 1 minute later.

I hope Best Buy does the 3 for 2 deal again next year.

ps3, the last few holiday seasons has been a hard sell to get as a gift. I'm sure it was "asked" for but when ol' school dad goes to the super k-mart and sees the 360 there for 200$ less... ...come on! This season is gonna be a little different for several reasons, one, dad at first thought the 360 was too childish, then saw the games have advanced alot since his nintendo days and just maybe has gotten on-line on the box with his kids and likes it now! I have seen this scenario with my own eyes! Two- since the gaming bug has its hold on the pop now, he has been looking at the ps3 and the reviews of the games, and has paid 2 or 3 live renewals and see's the free PSN and with the price cut is considering a ps3 already. When it is asked for this year, its going to be easier to convince him to buy it. Once it gets in the house and powered up with kz2 or you name the killer app.. its going to be over! He's gonna tell all the golf buddies about the media capabilities and blu-ray, then ps2's start getting traded in for ps3's, all of a sudden ps2's 140,000,000 starts to be ps3 numbers

For the record more people have ALWAYS wanted PS3, it was generally agreed by most that price was the factor.
Now that they are the same price the Xboxers dont want to believe it anymore.

Bottomline is, why wouldnt you get a PS3? Not a gamer is the only answer I can think of, and even then it would still be useful in an average home. I know people who have one just as a media center and they love it.

My point was simply just because they're going out of business doesn't mean the survey isn't credible. Well as credible as surveys go, I think we all know they're to be taken with a grain of salt, but I think they shouldn't just be flipantly dismissed either.

For example, I'd put more weight behind a survey of gamers at a gameshop than what Michael Practer thinks.

Microsoft still has some moves that they can make to drum up some demand I think.

I'm pretty sure they still have room for a price cut, as we all know they only put the Elite at the price of the 60gig model. So that was more of a upgraded Pro.

What I'm trying to say is that they probably could still cut the price of the Arcade. If it was somewhere around the same price as a PS2 that might make it more like an impulse purchase.

The price of Xbox Live is always a bit of a hurdle for some, there could be some long term gains to be made by cutting the price back a bit or perhaps making it free altogether.

Of course the best thing to do in my opinion would to simply produce more exclusive games. Easier said than done I admit, but if Microsoft could focus just a little more on truly exclusive software over the next couple of years I think the 360 will be much better off.

I still think Microsoft will wait and see what Natal does for them before doing anything too drastic though.

Edit: Thats not to say that the PS3 and the Wii are not great consoles I'm sure that they are worth every dollar spent on them. I meant no disrespect to Sony of Nintendo fans.

I can name a few things Microsoft can do to convince me to get a 360.
1)Fix Red Ring and change the case, it's terrible for ventilation.
2)Include everything and don't nickel and dime.
3)Charge reasonable price for harddrive and accessories. Like $40 for 120GB. I got a 250gb for $50 on my PS3.
4)Get rid of Live subscription. I'm sure there are a lot of us out there who wants to play online but don't play online frequent enough to justify $50 a year. Cross game chat means nothing to me, if I'm gaming I have no interest in discussing about space monkey with a friend playing a completely different game.

I have to echo Supaplaya and say it is a refreshing change from the status quo on NG4. That being said, I think that what you said about the exclusives is the best point made. However, the fact is that it is REALLY hard for them to keep making those because of their short-sighted approach to having 1st party devs. That's it. In a nutshell, they can only push out so many games from the few devs that are their own. The rest have to be purchased from other devs...which used to be much more of an attractive deal than it is starting to be now that the PS3 is slowly reach parity in terms of sales and install base. Overall...great comments!!!

It should be known...maybe not advertised...that ANY Blutooth headset is compatible with the PS3!!! Most people have them for their cellphones anyway. I personally like to keep the two separate...but that's just me. There are TONS of features that the consumers are STILL not aware of for the PS3...but now with the newer commercials they ARE starting to focus on some of the more important differences.

Its not the the 360 is not wanted its the fact that everyone who wanted to get a 360, got their 360 from 2005-2009, im not saying nobody wants a 360 anymore. Its just most of the people back in 2005-2006 got a 360 why? because they could not afford a ps3 and plus 360 was in its prime in terms of games at that time so they got it. But now the system they wanted from the get go is at an affordable price everyone they never moved up to this generation. will have the choice between between and 360 elite (and im sure they have already heard of the RROD problems that still has yet being fix since today) the new 120gb ps3 slim and theres a high chance in the generation that are playing right now is a ps2. and 360 has pasted its prime in terms of exclusives

I only own an Xbox 360 and I'm very particular about what games I buy as I have other costs in my life that have priority over my pastime.

My morgage, My child's food and clothes, I'm also renovating my house witch is not cheap.

Food and fuel cost's are sky rocketing also.

So you see in the real world luxury items like game consoles are not really that important. I've been a gamer for a long time and probably will continue to be one, but it is an expensive hobby for those of us without the disposable income that you so clearly have.

Teenagers will have a harder time affording monthly subscriptions to play online, because the younger ones will not have jobs and even some of the older ones will have a hard time convincing their parents to let them take on a monthly bill just so they can play videogames, which some of the stricter parents will frown on to begin with.

Back in the days when PS3 first launched, this was not a disadvantage because they damn sure weren't about to convince their parents to buy them a $600 toy for christmas. Now that the price for both is equal, that added value of not having to pay for online is beginning to become a huge advantage in favor of the PS3 to these kids with no form of cash flow or parents that won't let them use their credit cards to do anything.

Add to that the mass exodus of former 360 exclusives to the PS3, exclusive games that score higher than exclusives for any other current generation platform, and the fact that the PS3 also has added value features with blu-ray and internet connectivity that also make it more appealing to the parents, and it's an easy choice for a teen who is wanting a new game system for Christmas.

I had my 360 for quite a while now, but damn if the $299 PS3 price, GOW collection, and GOW 3 didn't make it a requirement to pick one up now. And by now there is quite a few PS3 games available/arriving that would warrant picking up this as your 1st or 2nd current gen console. Ah life is good.

ps3, the last few holiday seasons has been a hard sell to get as a gift. I'm sure it was "asked" for but when ol' school dad goes to the super k-mart and sees the 360 there for 200$ less... ...come on! This season is gonna be a little different. since the gaming bug has its hold on the pop now, he has been looking at the ps3 and the reviews of the games, and has paid 2 or 3 live renewals and see's the free PSN and with the price cut is considering a ps3 already. When it is asked for this year, its going to be easier to convince him to buy it. Once it gets in the house and powered up with kz2 or you name the killer app.. its going to be over! He's gonna tell all the golf buddies about the media capabilities and blu-ray, then ps2's start getting traded in for ps3's, all of a sudden ps2's 140,000,000 starts to be ps3 numbers

The reason that PS3 will sell more is because it is cheaper now. The Xbox's downfal is the little number of new features. However Sky Player has now arrived on Xbox 360 and hopefully that is the start of a number of new features. Game exclusivity has nothing to do with it, both consoles are equal there.
