MS are expanding their 3rd party program. So these unlicensed devices can simply become licensed.

Profchaos194d ago (Edited 194d ago )

The Challenge would be legacy devices from manufacturers that are now defunct given how Xbox is a ecosystem and series is BC with x1 controllers it could mean a manufacturer that built something way back in 2013 and is no longer around would not get that licensing and the users who spent money would be locked out

In addition the process of licensing may be complex and not something a venue may be bothered with for devices pre 2 years old.

To sum it up everything out there without a Microsoft logo may cease to function and Microsoft has failed to provide any justification as to why this is needed

GamerRN193d ago

This is a good thing, it will eliminate people cheating with modded controllers, KBM add-ons that still give aim assist, etc etc etc

Cacabunga193d ago

This brand is a disgrace .. you cannot imagine a more anti consumer company.

IRetrouk193d ago (Edited 193d ago )

So why block anything then? Why not just start the program and implement it for anything coming to market in the future?
You or i or anyone could have controllers and headsets that won't ever work again on xbox because they want a licence fee, this includes people with disabilities etc that use certain 3rd party products to be able to game at all.....
I thought ms were consumer friendly?

crazyCoconuts193d ago

Thinking out loud here, but there might be a cheating element here as well. I think PS has been more restrictive with allowing third party non licensed controllers, and as a result I've seen hardware hacking solutions with more restrictions on their PS implementation vs. the Xbox implementation. Maybe this is to reign in on the cheating?

IRetrouk193d ago

Surely if they can detect a 3rd party peripheral being used they could hone it down further to show them the cheating devices and just ban them, no?, dont forget, headsets, fight sticks, steering wheels and disabled gamers will all be effected by this too.
It may be an element, but don't get it twisted, it's about control and making money from licences, as seen with their ssd implementation, same as sony and their controller licences, but they atleast let you use any ssd that matches the specs and almost any headset too.

LonDonE193d ago

agreed this is what needs to be done, if its being done for greed then MS are dropping the ball here, but if its to curb cheating which is a massive issue on consoles online play then i support it..
But maybe they could block it for online game play...

S2Killinit193d ago (Edited 193d ago )

Wow what a shady move. Fu€ked up.

What about people who bought these devices already?

banger88194d ago

Will this affect 3rd party remotes? Because I have one that I use every night with my console. I haven't updated my SX in a long time, maybe I'll leave it offline permanently.

Profchaos194d ago (Edited 194d ago )

A signs point to yes they will be impacted.

The only accessory I can see still working is third party battery packs.

LucasRuinedChildhood194d ago (Edited 194d ago )

I use the Brook Wingman on the Series X so I can use a customised Dualsense (can't use the standard controller for either console) because my hands are missed up due to tenosynovitis. This announcement took a massive shit on my day.

I don't know what I'm going to do. It's definitely affected. https://twitter.com/brookga...

It seems like it might be okay for offline play though. https://twitter.com/brookga...

I love Brook accessories such a shame

XiNatsuDragnel194d ago

I wish for free online my friend.

LucasRuinedChildhood194d ago

Please post online and put pressure on Xbox to reverse this decision, guys.

Abear21193d ago

I’m old and remember loving games before the internet. I was so excited by the idea that the internet would allow consumers to take back power and organize online, becoming one voice; boycotting and pushing companies policies and bad decisions. Boy was I wrong.

LucasRuinedChildhood193d ago (Edited 193d ago )

So you're happy that people with hand issues like me won't be able to use our specialized controllers (that make it possible for us to play games) on our Xbox's anymore? Why? You're not obliged to defend bad decisions just because you prefer one platform over another.

The Brook adaptors provide a great service.

VariantAEC193d ago

I kind of do too. MS has options for those with disabilities. I haven't gone for 3rd party controllers on PS since PS2 and for Xbox 360 and PC I never used 3rd party peripherals. I tended to avoid unlicensed products on Nintendo systems as well. I'm not seeing an issue with this. I suppose its nice that other manufacturers don't block 3rd party pad support... but why do you need it?

@LucasRuinedChildhood
What controller do you actually use for your tenosynovitis? I can't find anything about a good gamepad for people with "gamer's thumb." Despite how often I play and type and use my hands and have nearly lost them to injuries... this issue eludes me. I only have several cycts and legions growing throughout my body and brain with notable spinal deterioration probably from excessive ionizing radiation exposure [technically "self-inflicted," I can't talk about that much], a blast injury, a few electrical injuries, a short bout of malnutrition, and several head injuries in early life. No issues with tenosynovitis (and so far as my latest brain MRI shows, no cancer).

@Lucas
Happy isn't the word I would use. But if I'm being 💯. If that means less people using a molded controller than buy the Xbox handicapable controller.
