PSP Custom Firmware 5.00 M33 released

Dark Alex creator of the PSP M33 custom firmware, has now released the custom firmware for latest PSP firmware version 5.00

just get a slim for now. I wouldn't upgrade to a 3000 until its been hacked for awhile at least. plus you'd have to find one with the motherboard that can be hacked.

Honestly, I hope the PSP 3000 stays un-hackable. Piracy on the PSP has gotten out of hand to the point where it was driving developers away from the platform.

It's nice to see a competitor in the handheld marketplace that can actually survive against the Nintendo handhelds. Nintendo has been able to crush every other competitor out of business pretty quickly, even though the competition was superior (Sega GameGear & Nomad, Atari Lynx, NEC TurboExpress, SNK NeoGeo Pocket, WonderSwan, Nokia N-Gage, Gizmondo, etc.)

Sony needs to just hire Dark-Alex to IMPROVE security on the PSP. When he took a break from the PSP CFW scene (between the OE and M33 releases), the scene went stagnant.

Sony could take some of the appeal away from modding PSP's by offering a MUCH larger selection of PS1 games (for a reasonable price) on PSN, as well as increasing selection of PSP games available for download over PSN (once again, at a reasonable price).

And the reason why so many developers were returning their PSP devkits...

While I must admit that I do have a custom firmware running on my PSP, the only reason I do so is because of being able to image the games I have, and run them off of the memory stick for HUGE reductions on loading times.

Now that Sony is integrating the PSN store into the PSP, and offering games as downloads, that kinda negates my reason for running a custom firmware.

Hopefully they will expand the selection of games you can purchase this way. It would be nice to see new PSP releases hitting PSN at the same time they are released on UMD.

Yup, just make Monster Hunter downloadable in the PSN and able to play infrastructure and not just ad-hoc and everybody's sold. Also, to be allowed to legally change our PS1 games to eboots.

Amazing work from Alex, in my opinion he has pushed PSP sales, i know many people who would not have brought the PSP unless it was hacked ^_^

took him 2 days to crack it, pure genious, i say he should work with Sony tbh.

Yeah your themes won't work until they make themes specifically for 5.00, your 4.01 themes won't work unfortunately.

There is even a PSP 2000 thats unhackable. It has the TA-088 v3 motherboard and Pandora won't work on these machines. Thats not even the 3000 one. I bet the hardware is totally different...
