Top 5 Games That Can Compete With Horizon Zero Dawn In 2017

So, we're less than two months into 2017, and many think we've already found the game of the year in Horizon Zero Dawn.

Zelda, MEA (not in quality but it will sell well), P5, Nier. And they are all within the same month/month in a half span :( 2017 is an amazing year for gaming but it's nearly 3 months in and my wallet is in deep pain.

There's no reason to doubt MEA's quality. The original trilogy is one of the highest rated game series of all time, 3 included, despite the shitstorm regarding the ending.

I think one of Sony's already announced new game will be released holiday 2017, with E3 2017 as release date announcement... so probably either God of War or Spiderman will be a contender.

For me personally, Crash remake and Zelda are two of my most anticipated games this year.

I doubt Red Dead Redemption will come out this year. Same for Xenoblade Chronicles 2 (which you didn't mention), which is supposed to come out this year as well, but I think it will be delayed to next year.

lol I feel like a big game will get announced but I don't think we'll see it in 2017. We'll see a Gears 4 port, SOD2, and and the new AC running on Scorpio. I think Halo 6 is coming in 2018.

Tbf, Zelda games are usually masterpieces. Can't think of a game with better gameplay, especially when the puzzles start flowing. Horizon looks terrific though, Im gunna have to play it some time after Zelda.

At least Horizon looks like a next gen game. Zelda BOTW looks like a game I would've played on my 360 five years ago.

Nioh looks like too much of a Dark souls clone. I've had my fill of Souls games for now, genuinely don't even wanna play Nioh. Obviously if u copy Souls youre gunna get a great game.

Out of the list I think only RDR2 will come close. Rockstar always do make quality games but I think they may focus more on online with it than the SP this time around. if they do then that could give Horizon Zero Dawn the edge.

Or Mario Odyssey, a 3D entry on a series with the lowest scoring game getting 90 on Metacritic (Mario 3D Land, which was a portable entry)?

Or Mass Effect Andromeda, which also comes off the heels of the original trilogy, which was among the best rated games of last generation?

How about games that have already released to critical acclaim this year, like Nioh or Yakuza 0?

And what about the upcoming Nier: Automata? If its quality is anywhere close to that of Bayonetta 2, it will be a serious GOTY contender for sure.

Horizon: Zero Dawn is a superb game, but people are being a bit short-sighted here. The fact is, this year the fight for GOTY will be a pretty contested one, and that's an awesome thing for us.

Not every Mario and Zelda game have been has been quality or even highly polished. Some have not done well at all. So we don't know how the new ones will fare. I am optimistic for both but with a new system and Mario going Open World we just don't know. Also Mass Effect Andromeda is coming off the heels of ME3 which wasn't the best entry in the series and some of the things EA wants to do with ME:A may not be well received either. As for the others you mentioned. They are good games no doubt but I was merely making my original statement based on the ones I saw in the list.

Well, No.. I personally cant wait to see what games like The Last of Us 2 will be.. UC4 was top notch on the PS4 and on Pro. ND gonna do special things... Also there is the God of war, Days gone, Spidey, Detroit, Death Stranding and many more. If you have a Playstation 4 you're in for many special things and for Pro owners you made a good choice..

I like Zelda, but Nintendo has been losing in the graphics department for a decade now. Too bad they didn't bring better graphics together with some of their great innovations in gaming.

3D Zelda and 3D Mario games always - ALWAYS - get critical acclaim. Always getting scores of 90 or above.

Same goes for Rockstar's open world games... which you didn't mention. If Red Dead Redemption 2 comes out this year (doubtful), you can be sure as hell that it will get a Metascore of 90+.

I have a hunch that God of War will get a surprise release this year. Cory Barlog said a few months ago he's already played a full playthrough of the game, which indicates that it's probably much more advanced in development than most of us suspect.

Likewise, I feel that Red Dead Redemption 2 won't come out this year. It was announced barely in october of last year, with just a single trailer, so I think we've still got some time for that one.

And you didn't mention Xenoblade Chronicles 2! It's supposed to release in 2017, although I also think that one will be delayed to next year.

RDR 2 , well , i would say 50/50 chance to release this year.
Regarding Xenoblade 2 , i think it will release late 2017. in Japan and sometime 2018. in the west.

But this is only my speculation.
