"We had all these games and we really wanted to focus on the games coming in 2016 and 2017 and beyond on PS4 and PlayStation VR"

"But more importantly we feel it's important that when you make this sort of announcement that you don't just trod off a list of specifications and this and that, but that you actually demonstrate what a device like Neo is capable of. And when we have the gaming applications to do that"

Anyone still think Neo is coming in 2016? Sounds like it might not even be 2017 from that.

ShadowKnight2886d ago (Edited 2885d ago )

More likely early 2017

darthv722886d ago

So the initial feeling that Neo would likely get its own exclusive content / titles may be correct. If they are taking the time to refine it and get titles to show off its capabilities implies it is meant to be more than just an upgraded PS4. Excellent news and reaffirms my choice to wait for it.

Kingthrash3602885d ago

theyve already said its a side by side system. no exclusives. the scorpio will do that but not the neo. i think you are reading into it too much. he sais he wants to show the GAMES COMING IN 2016-17 and beyond......please note that ALL GAMES SHOWN will be on the neo...sony just didnt want to over shadow the most important thing in gaming.......the games.
look at the scorpio......how many articles are there on gamesshown at e3 for the xbo?....none.....nothing. all people been talking about is the scorpio, and how xbo no longer has exclusives. what sad about that is they showed NOTHING about the scorpio. no games...no design.....just a few specs. sony avoided this by showing game...after game...after game. they will show the neo when they are ready to, clearly ms wasnt ready to show the scorpio, but they only had very few new games to show. so they through the xbox s...which was a good thing....but bringing scorpio made that the focus and its a ghost focus. we know nothing about it. 6tf...great there are tones of specs that matter, tons of details like games price and stuff that we can only speculate on.
sony know what they are doing. the ps4 is a success story why cloud its great games with an upgraded console. these games are for that console, im glad they did it that way.

krypt19832885d ago

No they seen the specs of the scorpio and literally shit there pants the writing is on the wall more then 5 devs praised the neo and how capable it was now all of a sudden they dont have proper software to showcase it when you could obviously show last of us remastered with better textures farther draw distance etc or any game for that matter I call bullshit

Death2885d ago

@King,
You need to realize the things you are talking about with Scorpio are things many PlayStation fans are making up. Xbox exclusives are still Microsoft exclusives. You can play upcoming Xbox exclusives on Microsoft Windows 10 PC's. Scorpio is a side by side like the Neo with no announced games exclusively on the system. Games will be playable at lower fidelity on Xbox One or increased fidelity on a PC.

Sony skipped hardware so they didn't overshadow games? You honestly believe Sony wasn't capable of showing both? That doesn't say much for Sony or the fans if that is even possible. How on earth have they made it through so many console launches if they can't show hardware and software? Sony avoided the whole spec thing by saying nothing...when has complete ignorance been the preferred path? These are all excuses you are making to try and justify being happy being told very little.

pyroxxx2885d ago

Kintrash360 ,.. Scorpio cannot do that,.. because they have no exclusives to begin with.. No one from third party will develop exclusively for it and PC ,.. because it will fail commercially. If they drop xbox one people it will be even worse.

donthate2885d ago

trash:

I just read how ID developer was whining about how people were choosing DX12 over Vulcan. I think that alone speaks volume of people choosing to make games for XB1 and Win10.

But you are right, Sony is dang good at showing vaporware. Who knows when those games will release. Like usual Sony will bring a crap load of game, some will be cancelled, and every year a few will trickle out, but fans will be talking about it for years. Remember Last Guardian? That's like what a decade ago!

DrJones2885d ago

Whenever I see a Kingthrash comment, I don't bother reading it.

Kingthrash3602885d ago

Wait, so you guys are telling me that they got scared of xbox scorpio announcement and thus didn't show the neo?
Because when the neo was first confirmed by sony they specifically said I would not be a e3....and looking at the large amount of games shown....not only In the conference, games were announced throughout e3.
If you ask me it was MS trying to copy the neo...as soon as the neo was rumored and specs were rumored ms scrambled to throw the scorpio in the conference thinking the neo was gunna be there....that's why all the had was some font saying "project scorpio " and talked about some specs. No console has ever been in a conference without ANY FOOTAGE of games running on it at least a tech deom, something. Lol but sure I'm the one seeing things wrong.

Sony is concentrated on making its new partnership with VReal , set and build up its PSVR support for not only VReal VR twitch type video service, but also streaming Full VR gaming.

Example:

VREAL is currently committed to both the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive; however, the company is tied with Sony and will be adding PlayStation VR to its offerings in the future. Users will also be able to watch virtual reality streams across mobile VR devices through cloud rendering technology, and even traditional 2D PC screens. But they will not be able to enter these streams with an avatar for the full experience that PC and PlayStation 4 devices offer.
http://www.virtualrealityti...

Who is on the board of directors in partnership with Sony none other than the grandfather of the Xbox project.

https://www.linkedin.com/in...
VR game streaming anyone?
I think Sony is trying to bolster software and services on the PS4 platform as well as PSVR.

KwietStorm_BLM2886d ago

I agreed by accident. I don't feel it's coming out this year, but nothing about what was stated would push it out of 2017 as you suggest. He's just saying they don't want to announce it for the sake of announcing it. They want to show the increased performance and benefits live at its reveal. And at this time, there's no urgency for that.

conanlifts2885d ago

Also by being vague it doesnt impact ps4 sales. This is especially important for sales at Christmas if the neo is scheduled for early 2017.

Scottyxboxoneandps42885d ago

They were scared off by scopio, simple as that..

IamTylerDurden12885d ago

Ur comment is ridiculously foolish. Yea, Neo won't release until 2018...

uth112885d ago

Well saying they are too busy showing the 2016 and 2017 releases and don't have games ready for Neo sounds like it won't be until late 2017 at the earliest

Ck1x2885d ago

Isn't that what Sony normally does though, is give specifications of the hardware? Sounds like maybe a little back peddling right now... Heck the PS4 was officially announced on tech demons running on PC hardware, we haven't seen or heard from Deep Down.

conanlifts2885d ago (Edited 2885d ago )

In Microsofts reply about the specs they used sony as an example saying, it seemed to work for them in past, so why not try the same approach.

IamTylerDurden12885d ago (Edited 2885d ago )

No, they are just saying that to ONLY announce specs in the way that ms did with the Scorpio is foolish. When they announce and show the Neo they want there to actually be something to see, not an 18 month promise.

donthate2885d ago

Durden:

It's ironic that Sony criticizes MS for announcing specs, when Sony did the exact same thing in their reveal in early 2013 for PS4. What is foolish, is that Sony themselves do not recognize that irony.

Fact of the matter is that Sony changed plans to announce PS4K/Neo at the last minute, and that is why there is a 15 min time remaining on their 90 min E3 show. MS 1-upped Sony, and they couldn't talk about specs anymore, and the only way is to show something. Any spec talk is an automatic loss to Sony so they have to move the goal post, and spin the marketing onto games.

conanlifts2885d ago

I agree it sounds like it's going to be a while yet. Shame as i was hoping for a 2016 release.

AmUnRa2885d ago

He is right, but i think you know that.
Idd Microsoft spouting the specs, but not all of it, and then showing non zero zipp games on the the Scorpio is not the way to show new hardware 1 1/2 year before the release.
Anounce it later would been better.

seanpitt232885d ago

I have been saying this for some time neo will be coming out in 2017 and the rumored slim will come out this year with 4k video output to rival the xbox s. The neo will be put up against the Scorpio next year and I think will have 5.5tflp of performance little less than Scorpio and 2k will be the standard not 4k it takes to much power and alot of things need to be sacrificed and it's not worth it.

uth112885d ago

Yeah neither console will be fully up to the task of 4K gaming. They should just scrap them until they can do a proper 4K console, and make that the next-gen killer feature

+ Show (6) more repliesLast reply 2885d ago
LucasRuinedChildhood2886d ago (Edited 2886d ago )

From what he's saying here (that you need games to show off the hardware first, before revealing it), I hope we can infer that the Neo isn't coming out this year, and that they have time to refine and improve it. I think it's a bit too early for its release to be honest. It will be more powerful if it releases next year, will be priced better, will have more support since both consoles will have upgraded versions (rather than one) and the generation will end up being longer, which usually results in more good games.

jobboy2886d ago

yes this is true...anyway i have a lot of games i want to play THIS YEAR on ps4neo mode; games like battlefield1 at true 1080/ fixed 60fps. last guardian with solid framerate, a 60fps version of U4 sp....and i could go on.....

LucasRuinedChildhood2885d ago (Edited 2885d ago )

Your feelings are perfectly valid. I completely get what you're saying, but I'm personally happy to wait, and I think putting PSVR and the Neo out in the same year could potentially be a big mistake. People only have so much money, and I'd rather people supported a step forward in how we play games (that builds on top of what we know, rather than side-stepping it like many gimmicks we've seen in the last 10 years), than a simple hardware upgrade.

rainslacker2885d ago (Edited 2885d ago )

I don't think Sony is in a position where they have to rush Neo. Especially if Scorpio isn't coming out until next year.

By delaying it(assuming it was scheduled for this year), they can continue to capitalize on the current PS4's success, and release it next year closer to Scorpio's release, and potentially make more money on it in the process since parts may be cheaper by then.

OTOH, I think they may be looking to release around the NX's release early next year. But at the same time, I don't think they need to worry about that so much either, because Nintendo has to line up everything right for that to not just be another WiiU.

In any case, by delaying the announcement, and possibly the system, they have a better chance of stalling any momentum that MS may gain with a Scorpio release. Some people will say it's because Sony is scared, but if you break it down, and assume it was originally meant for this year, it actually makes more business sense to wait it out a bit.

What surprised me though, assuming it's not releasing this year, is that Sony won't have a UHD player console alternative, which I thought for them would be coming since it's in their typical style of doing things. Maybe a slim PS4 would serve that purpose though, in which case, they don't have much need to rush the Neo at all.

I dunno, too many assumptions and hypothesis have to be made to really determine what's what with Neo.

LucasRuinedChildhood2885d ago (Edited 2885d ago )

Totally agree. I really think bringing out the Neo this year would be rushing things.

donthate2885d ago

The wisest thing Sony can do right now is to release Neo this Holiday. Why?

Regardless of how Sony sees Nintendo or their state of business, they have a history of coming from the left field with a knock out. Regardless, even the Wii U had a good launch, so expect NX to have a good launch. A good launch means competition, and that will hurt Sony and Nintendo.

If Sony decides to release after Q1 of 2017, then they have the problem of competing with Scorpio head on. With the right pricing, MS 1-2 punch will definitely hurt. Key for Sony is to gain enough support for Neo from consumers, and the only way to do that with least competition is to hit this Holiday.

So Sony better have something to show soon....

rainslacker2884d ago

@donthate

Sony did fine against the X1 and the PS4 released within a week one way or the other. Nintendo could come out of left field and surprise everyone, but they don't make a habit of doing that. Even if they manage to gain significant marketshare, I'm having a hard time imagining that's going to come from the mainstream or hardcore gamers unless Nintendo really has something for them...and while I like Nintendo's overall approach, they still just kind of do their own thing.

What one two punch does MS have with Scorpio? It's just an upgraded system like the Neo. As it stands, MS has more to lose if Sony decides to release in the same time frame as MS does, because as it is now, MS biggest asset with the Scorpio is 6TFlops. Unless they have some majorly enticing games, it's not going to matter. Sony will have the games....you know....all those games which are way off the Xbox fan boy keep moaning about...yeah...that's what MS has to compete with. Most people will care about the games....not the flops.

Key for either company is to gain enough support from the consumers. When they do it is up to them. As it stands, I'm not convinced that either system will settle that well with consumers when it actually comes time to purchase one...particularly since there is no rush if they can play the games on their existing systems.

Death2885d ago

What games do they need to show for new hardware that doesn't play exclusive games? PS4 games are Neo games. Once Neo launches, all games will play on both PS4 and Neo.

fatsodubmo2886d ago

Question:

If you have a tv that upscales everything to 4k, will having a console upscale to 4k make any difference?

UltimateOne882886d ago

If your TV upscales to 4K then no ... you do not need your console to upscale to 4K.

HOWEVER, you will want the device (TV or Console) that upscales the best to do the upscaling. For example, Sony is widely regarded as having the best 4K scalers (X1 Reality Pro chip) in their TVs which are superb at 4K scaling from lower resolution (I.e. games at 1080P). Samsung is also very good in this regard. So you would let the TV scale to 4K and turn off scaling in your console, blu-ray player, DVR, etc.

Hope this helps.

Satou2886d ago

Is LG regarded as having good scalers? I'm looking at buying a 4K HDR OLED...

fatsodubmo2886d ago

This is what I thought the answer would be thanks for clarification!!! I have a samsung so I should be good either way. So the marketing point of the BoneS/Neo that upscales to 4k for gaming is effectively pointless if your tv is goodcat upscaling.

UltimateOne882885d ago (Edited 2885d ago )

@martinnatalex

LG is not known in general for the best up scalers but the OLED models are so good I'm sure it will be better than a $300 console. Besides you will have OLED - the absolute best screen technology on the market. Enjoy.

Death2885d ago

The upscaler in your 4K TV is designed for movies, not gaming. The new consoles need to upscale games to be worth upgrading.

donthate2885d ago (Edited 2885d ago )

That is not entirely true. Yes, your TV will upscale 1080p content to 4K, but it is better to have the console scale the native resolution all the way up to 4K. The scaler in the Xbox has traditionally been best in class so expect great results.

If you allow the TV to scale, that means first the PS4 will scale sub-1080p content to 1080p, then the TV scales it again. That is a two step scaling that can introduce additional artifacts. It may also introduce additional lag. Note, that the console will output at fixed resolutions like 720p or 1080p, and maybe in rare instances support PC resolution. The Xbox 360 supported this, but it is rare.

So even if you have the best scaler, a two step scaling isn't ideal. A good scaler at native to 4K is better than a two step scaling from non-native 1080p with the best scaler to 4k is not as good.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 2885d ago
rainslacker2885d ago

It's worth noting that the current PS4 and X1 can already upscale it's output for 4K TV's, and will do so if you have it set to do so.

It's more the HDR inclusion in the new consoles which will show a bigger improvement with the X1S, likely the Neo(and maybe PS4 slim), and the Scorpio.

Some people will say it's not good to let the TV do it, but I consider them more ignorant, or in the same league of audiophiles who don't actually understand audio, but want to seem like they're knowledgeable.

Samsung does pretty good upscaling. I've watched a few 1080 Blu-Rays on my system, and it looks great, and the games themselves look a little crisper. I think my Samsung TV actually does a better job at upscaling than the chips in the PS4 or X1 do now, so I let the TV do the work, but the difference is not really noticeable. With games, there isn't a huge impact in picture quality when upscaled either way, so it probably won't matter either way.

@martin

LG has excellent upscalers as well. Their OLED screens are pretty awesome.

donthate2885d ago (Edited 2885d ago )

I believe the upscaling to 4K isn't certain, is it?

I also pretty sure upscaling to 4K only at best supports 30fps, anything else than that, and the TV has to do it. This is due to the HDMI specs, and affects both PS4 and XB1 as they both use HDMI 1.4, so a hardware change is needed and hence Xbox One S.

For games, it is preferable that the console scales the content from native resolution to 4K, rather than two step one even with a great TV scaler. Scaling for games is also different than movies, which TVs are geared towards.

conanlifts2885d ago

If you have an entry level 4k tv or one of the first generation 4k tvs then the upcoming consoles will probably upscale better. If you have a good sony or samsung tv then it's not likely to make a difference. For me my amp and tv both upscale and the picture quality in games is much better than on my regular hdtv. Having said that my tv supports hdr so a new console offering this feature would improve things quite a bit.

Sparta072886d ago

Nice. Take your time Sony.
Can't wait to see what they have up their sleeves. Hopefully they make it more powerful then the rumor specs even tho those specs are nothing to laugh at.

DrJones2885d ago

That 2,1 Ghz Jaguar processor though... I'd prefer they use the Zen, but that could mean delaying the console launch

S2Killinit2886d ago

"We had all these games and we really wanted to focus on the games coming in 2016 and 2017 and beyond on PS4 and PlayStation VR. We didn't want to dilute it or distract it by hardware related announcements. But more importantly we feel it's important that when you make this sort of announcement that you don't just trod off a list of specifications and this and that, but that you actually demonstrate what a device like Neo is capable of."

This ^

Pretty sure gamescone is not when Sony announces its new hardware. I suspect something like the PSVR reveal during their own show.

rainslacker2885d ago

Probably PSGW or TGS. With no press conference at Gamescom, it wouldn't make sense for them to announce it there. A dedicated press conference may happen as well. That'd be best IMO, because it allows them to dedicate the whole time to the device and any features or games that utilize it. Having it at a industry event usually means that news will drown out other, and IMO more compelling, announcements that deal with games and such. Like if you look at MS E3 press conference, Scropio is getting most of the news, and the games they showed aren't talked about as much except to say they showed games coming soon.

Company A has 300 employees and lays of 200 to replace them with AI to release the same quality game.

Company B has 300 employees and keeps all 300 but instead uses AI to release a game with dramatically larger scale, scope, complexity, short dev cycle etc.

Company B would release a dramatically better product by using humans + AI and consumers would buy the better game.

I actually agree with this concept.

Huey_My_D_Long5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

This is key facet. Its how the AI is used. It's actually is impressive as is and really would make an amazing addition to alot of people in their jobs, not just tech. It also has the potential for businesses to use to lay off large amounts of people, as much as they could to save money on labor. I hope too many companies don't go with the latter. But since usually companies are worried about bottom line over people...we will see some try and hopefully fail. But yeah, if its to help workers like in your company B scenario I'm totally down...Just scared Company A may be too enticing to some ceos and businesses.

Darkegg4h ago

Value of AI and value of humans will both be increased with human-AI complex. Each, by themselves, will not be independently better than the other. Whether AI will ever be independent from humans is the fear question of humans, ironically because of our doing. At this stage, most of the doing is because of humans, not because of AI. AI is doing exactly that by our design, until we have failed ourselves with an AI development that went awry. The biggest take is that humans have only ourselves to blame when things become wrong, and we have to decide what is the ultimate goal with AI we want to accomplish. It would take a person with high morals and high ethics to make right of AI. I would not want businessman to decide what AI should do or what capabilities it can have. AI should be in the hands of people with high moral fiber, or those operating on love, kindness, and compassion.

BlackOni4h ago

AI is SUPPOSED to be used as a tool, not a replacement. It's designed to do two important things artists can take advantage of immediately.

- Make the ideation/reference imaging process much quicker and easier (basically using it as a google search)
- Make mundane and time consuming tasks faster and easier so more time is spent on creation.

Unfortunately, what many have done is used it as a way to replace rather than supplement.

Einhander19721h ago(Edited 1h ago)

CS7

In the ideal world yes.

In the real world where companies have shown little desire to innovate and spent every effort to maximize profits the end result will be the same quality games (if were lucky) made by less people and more AI.

Company Real World: Fires 200 people and makes the same game cheaper using AI and the executives get record bonuses.

Edit:

Lets look at history, specifically auto manufacturing.

In the 70's and 80's the auto unions tried to oppose automation of jobs (robots) stating that they would take peoples jobs. And the people in charge who wanted to make more money said the exact same types of things that are being said about AI. But we can look at history and see that countless types of jobs were in fact replaced by automation, that was of course even compounded upon by computers.

The net effect was that the rich got richer less jobs were needed so wages were forced down by competition for the jobs that were left.

He doesn't, he's just lying. These people lay people off so they can get bonuses. If AI takes jobs, their bonus goes bigger and the workforce goes smaller.

porkChop1h ago

Because he sees AI as a tool to aid development. He wants to use AI to help make bigger and better games in the same timeframe. Other CEOs want to replace devs with AI to cut costs and make lifeless games faster for a quick buck. Strauss has the right idea, this is how AI should be used. To extend and expand the capabilities of devs.

I mean, it's a business based on hardware market. Do we expect them to not even try? It's not like Nintendo doesn't do the same by not putting any games on PC and Microsoft until recently did the same. I don't care what they attempt, as long as they don't abuse the community or lie about their goals/requirements.

Will it work? Not likely. Should we care? No. Let them waste their time, it doesn't affect anything.

RaidenBlack2d ago

let them try ... at the end of the day, we get few extra PC games ... yay ... and also promotes game preservation via PC ... so double yay.

LordoftheCritics1d 10h ago

If only Playstation games provided the ease of pc gaming features.

Primary being very few PS games support m/kb.

Christopher1d 3h ago

If only PC games supported controllers more. Main reason I play primarily on console. So many games have shit support on PC. Playing Dark Envoy now, and it's quite frustrating since I have to switch to keyboard during cut scenes just to make sure advancing conversation doesn't also auto-select a decision. Let alone it's quite rough to select between characters and inventory screens are bad bad bad.

Anywho, similar complaints for both I find. But, I 100% agree that both PC and consoles should support both as best as possible.

crazyCoconuts22h ago

PS may push more kb support in the future to get more PC converts, we'll see.

Flewid63821h ago

As someone with a high end PC, I feel like the ease is on PS5. Too many PC games are a troubleshooting nightmare, which few people have the time for when all you want to do is pop in a game & play it.

I don't think you understand what I mean by the lack of m/kb support on PS.

Over a thousand titles have PS controller support on PC.

Not even 30 titles have m/kb support on PS5.

Once you are done with the single player title, you'll go back to playing your daily shooter/looter/mmo etc which the pc gamer has mastered with their mouse and keyboard.
Why would any pc gamer make the switch?

jznrpg17h ago(Edited 17h ago)

PC is secondary to PlayStation for them. Mouse and keyboard would affect development. Live service will have it but most single player games aren’t going to have it as PC is not the focus

I wish them the best of luck.

But PC players are often a patient bunch, many will even wait for Epic launcher exclusivity to end until a game comes to Steam.

If they didnt buy the console when its games were exclusive, why would they do it now theyre not?

MrNinosan1d 12h ago

Way more do than you probably think.

ravens521d 12h ago

All you need is that one game that'll make a few switch at a time. Like a game a PC player REALLY wants.

porkChop23h ago

It just doesn't work that way though. Plenty of the best games ever made were never available on PC. That didn't make PC gamers buy consoles to play them. This kind of strategy has never worked in the past and it won't work now. It's fine for PS to hold their games back and release on PC later, but to think that will boost console sales is wishful thinking. All this will accomplish is some double dipping, which is obviously good for business.

People aren't going to switch from pc to ps5, why would anyone do that for a game?
Most sony exclusives aren't all that to begin with, and pc has the option to upgrade what they want when they want it. Having access to some ps5 games, gamepass and steam.

Thinking this would happen is naive

outsider16241d 8h ago

I mean if there's 10 million pc gamers out there...getting atleast just 1 million from there is probably a good thing..right?

romulus231d 6h ago

PC players are not a monolith, I don't know why people keep thinking they speak for the entirety of all PC gamers like they all know each other personally. You think out of the millions of PC gamers not one single person will be impatient?Well Sony is willing to bet there will be. Why would they do it now? People's feelings change and new PC gamers come along all the time that may also feel different about waiting, that's why.

Just like how I'm waiting for Alan Wake II to hit Steam 😆

PC gamers are just too patient and loyal to their gaming set ups, something they've spent a lot of money on to perfect. They have backlogs of games which many never get round to finishing or get round to at all and will always have other multiplatform releases to keep them going.

Over the many years Sony has published so many awesome titles such as The Last of Us, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Infamous, Killzone, LittleBigPlanet, Dreams, Puppeteer, Resistance, Heavy Rain, Gran Turismo, Motor Storm, God of War, Horizon, Ratchet and Clank, Spiderman, Ghost of Tsushima, Bloodborne

If none of those games BEFORE all these PC ports convinced a hardcore PC gamer to get a PS5 console then why on Earth would porting them them to PC now make any difference? All PC gamers now know 100% is that they just have to be patient, which they are good at anyway to get a PS5 game 2 years later.

I get GaaS games or multiplayer focused titles but if people really want to play these games they'd have gotten a PS console years ago.

Not sure they're aiming to convince the hardcore PC gamer.

Not sure why people are obsessing over his comment...it seems pretty simple to me.

He will do all he can to entice gamers to move to his ecosystem. As you say....exclusives existing hasn't moved many gamers over. But if they get to try them and love the games then they might change their mind about waiting 2 years.

We're in an echo chamber on this site...I've Personally seen people with Xbox and PC setups but no PlayStation. I've also seen people with small PC setups but no console. Not every pc gamer invests thousands and many may decide to put one in the living room.

They're not looking to convince all of players to buy a PlayStation...just a few...and really it is just a PR statement after all...they have to give a reason why single player won't release day 1....not to mention they also have to ensure current PlayStation gamers don't jump ship to PC. It goes both ways and they're ignoring the big L by putting any of their games off their platform.

"Not sure they're aiming to convince the hardcore PC gamer."

Right here

Kakashi Hatake1d 8h ago

PC gamers think tomorrow is promised. Sorry, don't have time for that.

Michiel19891d 7h ago

it's not just about loyalty or sunk cost, pc is an open platform while consoles are closed platforms. If you for example want to mod, you will play on pc, no question about it. Also if you like indie games, steam is a fucking goldmine for that. I've been playing a lot of indie games over the last years and there just seems to be an endless amount of them on steam. Also not having games locked to a certain fps is a prettty big deal for me and I assume a lot of other pc players.

Walalon1d 6h ago

And don't forget steam sales, you can get a ton of games on an awesome price.

badz14921h ago

@Walalon

Sony has been doing sales constantly on the PS Store nowadays.

jznrpg17h ago(Edited 17h ago)

@Walalon Steam sales are basically the same as PS sales. I was going to buy a Steam Deck and I heard about these Steam sales but the games I was interested in were not any cheaper. Indie games were cheap and older AAA were cheap but the same can be said for PS store sales. I didn’t end up getting the Steam Deck as there weren’t any games that I wanted to play that wasn’t already on PS and prices aren’t much different

romulus231d 6h ago

And how do you know out of the millions of PC gamers that not one single person ever went ahead and bought a PlayStation console for one or more of those games? People keep speaking for the entirety of millions of PC gamers like they know them all personally. Here's one example for you, I'm currently typing on a recently purchased PC that cost me over twenty five hundred dollars and is more than capable of running any game including Sony exclusives that come to PC and yet I still bought a PS5 so apparently I'm not patient or loyal enough to my set up, hope it's not mad at me for not being loyal.

jznrpg17h ago

Some of those people will consider getting a PS5 some wont. I was a PC gamer for a long time and I’m a console only gamer now. Everyone’s different.

Who cares? Then just stay on PC and play the waiting game. No big deal. Sony wins in the end anyway.

Number1TailzFan2d ago

I mean if there's any single player Sony games that I actually want that aren't on PC then I would buy said console to play them on. But the ones that I like that aren't on PC are few and far between anyway so no loss for me.

If I game, it's usually multiplayer titles, otherwise I like playing around with some other software.

Amplitude1d 3h ago (Edited 1d 3h ago )

Astro Bot is the game that just did it for me. I'm gonna have to grab a PS5 again for that.

I did this for Ratchet Rift Apart too but ended up selling the PS5 after getting my plat. Rebought it on PC and other than GoW Ragnarok and Horizon FW (which eventually I could get anyway), I haven't had a reason to downgrade my graphics, controller features, ease of recording, and increase my game costs and monthly subscriptions throughout this entire generation.

I play on a TV with a controller but this has been the absolute worst console gen for both consoles. Never in my life thought I'd be a PC gamer but I've been spoiled by the cheap costs, cross-platform controllers and mostly the unbelievably useful Steam controller config.
