Wired- Legend of Zelda Director Admits Wii U Gamepad ''Disrupts The Gameplay''

Eiji Aonuma tells Wired “We realized that having something on the GamePad and looking back and forth between the TV screen and the GamePad actually disrupts the gameplay, and the concentration that the game player may be experiencing,” adding “You have your car’s GPS system on your dash. If you had it down in your lap, you’re going to get into an accident!”

A shame it took them an entire generation to acknowledge this

BrandanT2906d ago

I always feel like Miyamoto is the one who's defending it so vehemently. I know that kimishima thought it was a bad idea.

_-EDMIX-_2906d ago

Glad someone sees how insane it that it was that they kept supporting something so bad.

I believe they're only saying this because they're marketing it for the NX and could care less about the Wii U sales that they are going to capture

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory2906d ago

No Kimishima said the Wii U was a bad idea because its too similar to the Wii and the casual audience left to mobile. It had nothing to do with the gamepad.

People always twisting his words.

Wii u game pad disrupts every wii u game that requires it

freshslicepizza2906d ago (Edited 2906d ago )

@OtakuDJK1NG-Rory
"No Kimishima said the Wii U was a bad idea because its too similar to the Wii and the casual audience left to mobile. It had nothing to do with the gamepad."

the gamepad added extra costs to the hardware which could have been spent making it more useful to last longer this generation isntead of falling behind. sure some games worked well with the gamepad but when you enforce it on every system and make it universal you will run into problems because the gamepad is not needed for every game. it was yet another gimmick designed to try and differenciate itself from the other platforms and failed to gain traction.

and watch as nintendo tries yet again with some weird controller on the nx that really only benefits their own 1st party games which is why they will contiue to alienate themselves from third party publishers who see no reason to adapt to nintendo's need to be different.

* Kimishima thought the Wii U was a bad idea and he was right. ( I love my Wii U though).

There is a reason Kimishima was picked to lead the future of Nintendo and It think he has a firmer grasp on the reality of what people want to play than Iwata did.

Also NX is still an Iwata console though.

Kimishima's next console after NX will be his official first.

It took um two generations to realize this.
When it comes to making a gaming platform, the number one think you don't mess with, is the controller.
Sony realize this, and they end up coming out with best contorller to ever hit PS.

OtakuDJK1NG-Rory2906d ago (Edited 2906d ago )

Actually it didnt because Retro Studios didnt bother with it. So they knew. Instead they wanted to create games that best work with.

Servbot412906d ago

"Entire generation?" Nah, it was clear that most of the first-party studios gave up early when it came to the gamepad. It was just Miyamoto shoving it where it didn't belong that dragged down certain games.

"I believe they're only saying this because they're marketing it for the NX and could care less about the Wii U sales that they are going to capture"

They can't be thinking/saying that considering NX won't have the install base of WiiU when Zelda releases

exkalibur972906d ago

the wii u has a 10 million install base, not really missing much lol if i were nintendo id focus on the nx as well

FullmetalRoyale2906d ago

Say even a third of Wii U owners buy it, considering the attach rate of Smash and Mario Kart, That's at least three million copies in potential sales. That is...a LOT of money.

exkalibur972906d ago

lmao fucking roasted by there own devs XD

LOL_WUT2906d ago

And people will still say otherwise lol ;)

Cy2906d ago

I could have told you that the day the Gamepad was revealed...

Export2906d ago

I completely agree ... I was playing star fox game .. its either looking in the cockpit aka the tablet or 3rd player outside .. it was tough to mix both of them . Im glad that the Zelda game is on the classic gamepad and playable on the Wii U since its been collecting dust .
