Everything happened after GameSpot tweeted an image from the making of the first teaser trailer of CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077. Developer The Chinese Room replied with its official twitter account commenting on the image and implying that the game appears to be “just as sexist” as The Witcher.

The problems with sexism are way too big for SJW's to keep bitching about the little stuff. What they're doing seems like the equivalent of telling someone at a garbage dump not to litter. The real problem is the way society trains our children how to behave and there's nothing we can do to stop it. My 11 year old daughter, for example, is already showing signs of the influence social media and pop culture is having on her style of dress and attitude in terms of sexuality. I don't know if I'd call those two big ones though. I've only heard of Destructoid prior to joining N4G, to be honest. Even then, didn't really hear from them much about anything. Dualshockers, not until I joined. It's just the sensationalist headlines I take issue with (which in a way makes it clickbait).

I don't know if I can agree with The Chinese Room though; The Witcher III reminds me of Game of Thrones a little where, sure, there's certainly some sexist elements given the elven/olden times vibe they were going for. But there are female characters who are incredibly respectable in both universes (Arya Starrk and Ciri, for example).

The image used from Cyberpunk 2077 for TCR's argument could, for all we know, be taken out of context. I think it's pretty pre-judgmental of them to say that.

Well, when over 60 N4G members clicked on that agree button I think I made a pretty good point.

If I would be one of the site admins who posted a whole article about this tweet I would be as guilty - in my opinion - as the websites that did it. Well...yes. Sexism is not showing sexy women, or using them to express a narrative. Sexism is the act of discriminating against women....which a game isn't capable of doing, unless CDPR didn't allow women to play their game, or the game lobbed insults at the women while they were playing, or something along those lines.

A game can convey sexist messages, but that doesn't make the developer, the game, or anyone else sexist unless it's done from the point of trying to influence common consensus on the issue to believe what the message conveys....something that is really hard to do...and is still very much more an expression of ideas, rather than a form of sexism.

The proper thing to say would be that it objectifies women, but objectifying women in media is not in itself sexism or sexist.

The word sexist, and sexism, are way too misused nowadays, and many people who try to say something is sexist, have obviously learned the meaning of the term from the media's misuse of the word, as well as the misuse of the word from uneducated people who want to jump on a trend which they typically only have a one semester sociology or political science course knowledge in. In other words, they are idealistic without having all the facts, or understanding how everything fits into a bigger picture, and base their opinions on reactionary stimulus which is either false, or blown out of proportion, along with the inability to realize that the world is not as black and white as they want it to be.

As such, they say stupid stuff like this, and their fans eat it up. It works better for them since they lack a lot of talent for making actual good games, but their position on certain issues makes some people believe that their games are good because of some sort of connection their "fans" have to the devs themselves.

I wouldn't worry about it. People talk a lot, and play up a mentality of superiority on these issues, but in the real world, they realize most people don't want to listen. Safe spaces only last for so long before people grow bored and seek out meaningful relations with people who have a mind beyond the mundane. It's a cheap practice to use pictures like that to gather clicks but it wasn't CDPR that even made that. As for the Witcher 3 personally one of maybe two issues I had was the scene for the 3 witches boss, it was just an excuse to show more naked women with no context whatsoever but that was one thing in an over 60 hour game and while I can't really comment on the rest of the Witcher series since I've only given any attention to 3, I've heard about the previous games and how each entry has made serious improvements, 1 having terrible issues to 3 having very few. So I can only assume that trend of improvements will continue with future games.

If they have some kind of information that actually does show CDPR is sexist, bring that up. Heck, my fiancee is more a feminist than any of these SJW twats. Her entire career is centered around actually helping women who face real sexism or oppression. Her favorite games have been those niche Japanese titles like Criminal girls or Hyperdimension Neptunia.

Her general thinking is that none of this stuff actually makes a difference on perception, and makes even less difference on actual actions because societal norms keep people in check most of the time, and people don't act like a**holes on a daily basis unless they actually are one. At best it can eventually cause a shift in thinking to change how people view women, but she also believes that media in general has emasculated men more over the last decade than games have objectified women since their inception.

So take that for what it's worth from the mind of an actual effective feminist who doesn't need to play the victim card to make a difference, and she's won more awards and notoriety for her work than all the SJW have put together, all while making an actual difference in real women's lives and earning a mere fraction of what Sarkeesian got to make a video series, much less a self serving book on influential women. Funny thing is, if she went online to Kickstart some program to help actual women, no one would pay her any attention, and the likelihood is is that given how defensive everyone has gotten from all this, might even just be seen as someone who is trying to capitalize on a hot button issue.

She's already said that she sees people taking her work less seriously, and consider her some sort of over-zelous feminist because that's what feminism is known for nowadays. I would disagree. I would say at times the series is a tad bit sexist with an understanding of the first game that when you have sex with a character you got some sort of card as a trophy.

We (I at least), live in a society where women have sex with women, and it is accepted by society as perfecty normal. If women are allowed to fancy sexy attarctive women, how is the depiction of a sexy attractive woman sexist anymore? Surely the image appeals to both men AND women and can't be said to prejudice one specific gender. It's exactly the same as Geralt's butt shot. It would appeal to both men who fancy sexy men, and women who fancy sexy men. SO it can't be classed as sexist because it doesn't prejudice any specific gender.

It really wasn't that great of a game. Good premise, and lots of potential, but the game play was kind of boring, and the "story" was pretty weak. Was made as a game to try and deliver an experience, and just seemed too pretentious to actually do so.

Really a shame, I was kind of looking forward to it.

This is no more sexist than a homosexual man refusing to have sex with women is sexist. If *not* being bisexual is sexist, then 97% of us are sexist, and the word loses all meaning. It's a game, and one which tries to appeal the the fantasies of an adult male. There are dating sims out there aimed specifically at women, and they appeal to their fantasies - go check them out on Steam or the iOS! There are even Skyrim mods made by women for women which give male romance paths; some are bit more risqué (objectification? Hardly). When more women play games (and nowhere near as many do as the misleading data would show), they will get bigger-budget products aimed directly at them, whatever their fantasies may be (not what feminists tell them they should be, but what they actually are).

Implying that there is something wrong with men for having fantasies is intolerant and hateful. The Chinese Room have now tarred their reputation with bigotry for nothing.

I find it bizzare that you think socialism results in a superior quality of life. In reality it's quite the opposite. I kind of decided I wouldn't buy any more of their games after EGTTR. Really had no clue on their political views until after that game released, and I was looking into the dev to see if they were worth giving a chance to after the disappointment that was EGTTR.

I might support a good game from them. They might be moronic in the way they form their opinions, and they're ineffective in the way they express their ideals, but they do have potential within the one game I brought from them. All they need to do is get a grasp on how to make a good game, and write a compelling story or deliver a compelling experience in lieu of a story.

It's really kind of screwed up just how controlling neogaf has become. Back in the day...maybe 2-3 years ago, that control was just about people being respectful and not BS'ing.
