Microsoft: No Comment on EB Australia Fiasco

Luke Plunkett for Kotaku US was kind enough to buzz all the EBs in Canberra, and like me, he got the same "out of stock" line for the Xbox 360 Premium.

Should Microsoft pick up the bill for the damage its apparently poor QA has wrought, or has EB Games dug itself a massive hole for issuing the recall itself mid-last year? Let us know.

I wouldn't wan't to be pushed around by some 2-bit media joke(kotaku) either. If any of its true its not something that could be talked about even if parts of the issue is true.

Since when did kotaku have an anti msoft vibe? The bottom line is microsoft messed up the 360 and its faulty. They set out 1 billion to fix the problem all they need to do is set out 10 million more. At the end of the day they will probably have to pay no need dragging this too long. I am going tired of xbox rrod news. Msoft has done a magnificent job of containing the issue though since most people remain unaware of the failure rates

/I really hope this is true. EB does not seem to be capapble of training its empployees to do anything other than shill the used games on people. Less than a month ago . My x360 started having problem readings discs. When I wentt to return it ( on number three now) I found out the moron working the counter had scanned the serial number of my last warranty return as the new one. So now I was left sitting there with a warranty that was only good for a console that I had already returned almost a year ago, and a half broken 360. Needless to say i freaked so I can say I am very happy that karma is working overtime to screw EB and I hope they go out of business.

Also, if you check 'store availability' its only like 3 regions that are sold out and all others are in stock. Personally I'd take that as simply needing more to arrive than EB no longer selling them... but that's just me.

Not that it matters really, I don't live there so it doesn't affect me. Still, if it is true then guess its good for the PS3... but I don't take second hand accounts from 'anonymous' sources too seriously 90% of the time.

Also... why would a store do the recall on their own without first getting backing from the product's manufacturer? Might be good 'business' in terms of PR but wouldn't expect the manufacturer to be liable for the retailer's decision to do so (which seems to be the case... read up on this and related topics a little).

This could be true, but the manner in which it was reported was wrong.

My honest opinion is that while I love my Xbox-360 there have been issues with the hardware, trust me when I say that if there had not been hardware issues the next gen race would all but be over, but there were/are issues, EB has a duty to it's customers, what needs to be established is if there is masses of damaged stock then what was the cause? if this is a design issue then MS should help EB, not carry them but help them, if however EB could not be bothered to test the consoles and just assumed any return could be just sent back to MS then this is wrong.

For the record I know people who buy the RROD Xbox-360's and send them back to MS without a problem, so if this story is true then there is more to it than a simple dispute.

I'm not surprized by this! the total amount of console's may be wrong. I know the GAMESTOP in the town in which I live the manager told me the have 9 systems that MS will not repair or replace this was the main reason that GAMESTOP stopped offering the product replacement plan on the 360, MS has taken advantage of the consumer and the 3yr warranty was just to stop a recall and lawsuits the 3 yr warranty was more cost effective. MS will never get any more of my money towards games,consoles or XBOX live I also traded in my son's 360 and games and bought him a PS3 which is a quailty product. GOOD BYE MICROSUCK Hello SONY and peace of mind...

No matter how you look at it this is bad news for Microsoft. Of course MS won't confirm this but if they called and no one as a 360 in stock something is wrong.

Like I said in the other post they need to take the hit and get the 360 back on the shelf. They are doing very good in the US but the year has just started and if they lose footing in the US with the PS3 already doing pretty good worldwide they are going to be in trouble.

EB is just going to resell the consoles. Not only did they profit from the warranty, or by offering extremely low trade-in values, but they're trying to steal money from Microsoft as well. Not only that, but the resources that it would take to repair $10 million worth of consoles would slow down turn around times for the rest of us who aren't trying rip the consumer off. If I were Microsoft I wouldn't repair their consoles either.
