Yes, but it was also only an online multiplayer game, so they'd either have to do free weekends, which is the same basic problem, possibly create a special version of the game that either only worked offline (costly) and/or figure out a way for someone to download the game and be able to play for like an hour.

While I guess you can say Sony is responsible for bringing them together, a lot of it has to do with them both standing to gain something, a fact that wasn't true in the past. The Switch is the only real console where there is enough of an overlap for a company to team up with them (Wii U and those before it didn't have many big third party titles to really bother) and the different demographics make it easy for both sides to work...
