VGChartz's Evan Norris: "If you haven't played Rainbow Cotton before, you're not alone. A Dreamcast exclusive released only in Japan, it's not exactly a household name. Looking to change that, and bring the sixth-gen game back into the spotlight, is German studio KRITZELKRATZ 3000, which — with the backing of publisher ININ and original developer SUCCESS — has remade the 3D shoot-'em-up from the ground up. Featuring several modern quality-of-life upgrades, plus HD graphics and a brand new local co-op mode, it promises to merge the past and present when it launches digitally on consoles and PC on May 9.
Ahead of the game's release, I chatted with Andreas Scholl, technical director at KRITZELKRATZ 3000 and lead programmer for Rainbow Cotton, about what fans can expect from the remake."
Review - Rainbow Cotton on Xbox is a pick-and-mix of good stuff and bad. It certainly meets its ‘Rainbow’ target.
TSA writes: "Rainbow Cotton is an interesting peak into the history of Dreamcast gaming, but it lacks the gameplay upgrades and presentation flourishes to make it a genuinely enjoyable game outside of that context."
CCG writes - "The asking price for Rainbow Cotton is $19.99 and I think that’s a bit steep for a partial localization, short gameplay, and limited options. It’s probably my least favorite in the series, but I’m happy to have checked it out. I think it’s worth checking out on a sale though. If you do decide on getting the game, be sure to use a controller that supports turbo rapid firing."
I really liked this game on Dreamcast, but it was challenging to play due to the poor camera. Hopefully this is fixed for the remake
