Ars Technica takes a look at the console war. Using 4 Graphs they measure the first 7 months of console sales in Japan, console sales to date in Japan, first 7 months of console sales in North America, and console sales to date in North America.
VGChartz's Evan Norris: "Is Ocarina of Time as legendary as I remembered it? For the most part, yes. In spite of a handful of missteps — a few obtuse puzzles, some tedious backtracking, and a clunky stealth sequence — I don't believe the last 23 years have been unkind to it. Ocarina remains a brilliant example of the medium, a landmark game that shaped the future of its own franchise and 3D gaming in general. After more than two decades it retains its inventive dungeon design, challenging puzzles, dynamic combat, wistful storyline, unforgettable music, and empowering open-air freedom. I feel confident calling it one of the greatest games of the fifth generation, even if I'm no longer prepared to list it among the five best games ever made."
Pure unadulterated fun. They don't make them like this anymore...especially not the triple A industry.
The first PlayStation is home to an array of iconic video games that went on to define the sheer significance of this console.
I think from a historical perspective I would change Spyro for Grand Turismo. It's the franchise that made the PS1 look like an absolute unit. Other than that, I can't argue with the rest when it comes to games that defined the PS1.
And to be honest, there should be space for Tekken 3, Wipepout and Tony Hawk's Pro Skater in order to round out the PS1 identity as the machine to own at the time.
With Tomb Raider 2, Silent Hill, Symphony of the Night, Tenchu, and Soul Reaver as backup contenders.
Gary Green said: You’ll be forgiven if you haven’t heard of the Ar Tonelico trilogy. The previous two games arrived so late in the PS2’s life-cycle that they simply went unnoticed. While most were tinkering with their shiny new PS3s, Ar Tonelico: Melody of Elemia and Ar Tonelico II: Melody of Metafalica were being ‘returned to sender’ by your local Game stores. Luckily, you won’t need to have played them to understand and appreciate this third and final chapter, Qoga (pronounced k-yoga) tells the story of a racial war between humans and Reyvateils, a breed of biologically produced female cyborgs capable of reproduction, while still having a digital mind.
Oh my god. I kinda wish this would get a remaster on PS5, it would be awesome. One of my favorite games on PS3.
That and 3D Dot Game Heroes. It's a shame that some stuff is stuck on PS3.
Ar Tonelico 3 is good I still prefer the first AT game. The music is solid in all the games and Akiko Shikata is a very talented singer bringing life to the game. Only annoying part is well I find is Saki I always choose Finnel or Tyria. KOEI so needs to HD remaster the franchise along with Ar Nosurge and Ciel Nosurge since it never came to North America. I would day one the Ar Toneliceo games and Ar Nosurge if they were remastered.
I still have the limited edition of Qoga unopened. Unfortunately it never went up in value like I had hoped all these years.
Used to own all these quirky JRPG on ps3 good times. Wish I would have kept them all
So The wii suddenly won the war in 8 months? Isn't it a battle for 1st place between each 3 systems still? Am I missing something?
It's tough to include the wii into this 'competition' since its really in its' own path. The real competition is between Sony and Microsoft, and honestly I don't wan't any of them to lose because when there is competition, developers and companies alike work much harder for their product to succeed on the system.
if MS does not do something big, soon there will be trouble.
does it really take a genius to figure out that PS3 will outsell 360 in the next year or so? but things can always change. ill put my money on sony. And lets not forget these comments I posted in the past.

The way I destroy it is up to the 360 fans.

EDIT i just dont see the wii as a serios gaming console and it doesnt have the killer apps like bioshock, mass effect, halo 3, killzone 2, heavenly sword ratchet etc etc that are geared towards u kno a more mature audience. mario is really fun and all but it gets boring after a awhile
u guys kno what im talking about
All three consoles have an advantage over the competion.
Wii: It's cheaper, and has a new type of controler for consoles.
Xbox 360: It has more games, and a proven online service.
PS3: It has more technology behind it but more Japanese developer support than the Xbox 360.
