Uh, yes, they have. Sony's games division posted a half a billion dollar loss in 2009 alone, and the Wall Street Journal reported that the PS3 was still being sold at a loss as recently as two months ago.

The shortages definitely suck, but I expect to see a surge once GT5 releases. I'm not underestimating that game for one second.

I am somewhat confident that Sony can turn the tide considering Japan, but they need to work on NA and GT5 may be the key.

They are doing great and I'm cautiously optimistic about them overtaking MS, but with a rumored price cut MS is definitely going to fight for their second place.

In the end nobody will come close to Nintendo. It's a race between MS and Sony, and people have tuned out Nintendo while pretending that MS and Sony are all that exist. It's pretty funny but people are in complete denial with how much Nintendo has won this generation.

x360 outsells ps3 only in America, now worldwide the ps3 has been giving the x360 a beating since ps3 slim came out, so go back to playing on your x360, because obviously you are no good at maths

Nick's show is absolutely useless and PHIBALNATION I can and cannot agree with you. The only thing the 360 has going for them IS Party Chat wich PS3 will soon have.

There is nothing wrong with the PSN network and to be honest I find it overall smoother expecially with Modern warfare 2. the game runs great and you dont see so much B/S as you do on the 360. Expecially with the hacking that goes on.

im not a fanboy I do own both consoles but I do prefer my PS3 over my 360

It's posted here because this site is filled with viral marketers and obsessed ps3 owners who think everyone cares about Sony (I have a ps3 but when I click on the wii section I want WII NEWS). Two of the top three posts in the wii section are sony will win the marathon and this, which has a picture of a ps3.

I believe the shortages are working in Sony's favor. Not only are the shortages creating buzz much like it worked for the Nintendo Wii, Sony can now play it up with the shortages. They create plenty of advertising with the "It only does Everything" campaign. Now add shortages to it to create more buzz between people is phenominal marketing. It worked wonders for the Wii who has been on a non-stop tear.

If anyone considers this a race, PlayStation is basically midway through the marathon. They're saving their energy. What big game for Xbox is going to move consoles aside their Red Ring of Death? Halo: Reach won't. Halo fans already bought and own a Xbox. Some will adopt but it wont be anywhere in the 1-2 million range. Same with Gears of War 3, although I think that will have a bigger effect than Halo: Reach.

Nintendo is running away with this generation and its plain as day. Nintendo will end up in 1st when its all said and done because they had a good business strategy. Once more, they deserve it too. The last 2 generations before this one they had less than stellar sales for their hardware with Nintendo 64 running 26ish Million and Gamecube at 21.7 million. They needed this and by all means congratulations Nintendo, you deserve it. I wouldn't be so anti-Microsoft if they didn't come in and start this huge 'war' between consoles. I guarentee this would be a different atmosphere if it was Sony - Nintendo - Sega. Or Sony - Nintendo - Apple. Microsoft no matter where they go create this...animosity. Its how they run their business.

This shortage is a huge bummer for consumers. My co-worker's family has wanted a PS3 for 2-weeks now but the local Best Buy, Target and Walmart are all sold out, and they don't want to order one online. Sony needs to get the supply up to meet the demand.

My friend had to wait 4 days just to RENT a PS3...

The shortages are real, people. I've seen them. I've asked 2 Gamestops, 2 Wal-Marts, 1 Target and a Best Buy. The only place I could find a PS3 was the pawn shop a few blocks down, and it wasn't even a Slim.

oh how the tables have turned. the wife and I went to the target today 0 ps3's in stock but they had 10 wii's in stock and the guy said they had about 6 more in the back. almost bought 1 too.....but I'm saving up for a new TV.

I just bought a new slim 120gb(from best buy) for my kids so I can retire the launch 60gb model to lesser duty.

When the move bundle comes out my wife will want it so we'll have plenty of ps3 hear to go around :)

Ive noticed stores like walmart are sold out and its very hard to walkin to a retail shop and pick up a 250gb.

My disagree could only be from a bot, but anyone go to any store in your town, i'm sure two things will be true, you will have no problem finding any 360 you want and you would be lucky if they had a PS3, or Wii.

it may be hurting their sales - but they are still outselling the 360 worldwide, and have been for months - so whilst it's not hurting them and stopping them 'win' as you say it, it's hurting them because they could be winning each month by a larger margin

Sony now loses $8 per ps3 sold and all their losses have been made up by the game sales since they publish most of their own best selling games
