Europe investigates Microsoft Xbox 360 scratching disk problem

OUR DUTCH is not good. Forgive us. The Bulgarian lass is complaining about scratched DVDs. We dunno whether the HDDs are any good. But in any case the Vole has to come up with an answer in one week. Flat.
THE EUROPEAN COMMISSIONER for Consumers has asked Microsoft to explain why Xbox 360s have so many faulty hard drives.

There are, apparently, 1,000 complaints from The Netherlands alone. She wants and expects Microsoft to respond to worldwide complaints about the problem

obviously i dont know when you brought each model, but i brought my Xbox 360 on the ... i think 21st October. and to this day i havnt had this problem, i havnt had it die on me (red rings)

The EU will do everything they can in order to bankrupt an American company, especially one as large as Microsoft.

They don't seem to have the right frame of mind, which is - "Make a better product!!!" - not try to financially destroy a company.

Out of the 3 people I know that have a 360, they have had no problems with theirs. I've never had a problem with my launch box either.

i believe she is referring to scratched disks but incorrectly said HDD. the inq's article title and the first paragraph suggest that anyway.

you can say i am one of those "lucky people" or whatever, but i brought mine near the 21st October 2006 and i have had no problems what so ever, and it does get used normally at least 4-5 hours EVERY day, (unless my family is on holiday etc) but yeh on a normal day 4-5 hours minimum.

retail stores like Gamestop or Circuit City, but only two people I know have bought the system and luckily they're still fine. One of them has seen the Ring of Death a few times, but they were all temporary (phew!).The Disc Scratching drives were only in the early units; missing the necessary padding on the lasers.

Despite the MS defense League - trying to post on all forums trying to cover up the huge amount of RROD, scratched disks etc - trying to scream FUD at all who point out the large failure rate - despite the excellent return policy MS has put into place - despite all the activity on forums to deny the existence of the problems - it is about to come out.

Heck - Down here I went to a couple of stores where both PS3 and XB360 is displayed - and I have more than one photo of the XB360 kiosk with the "Out of Order" or similar notice over it - with the XB360 having 3 red lights in the now familiar configuration.

Give it a rest MS Defence League - no one is "out to get MS", they brought this on to themselves. Instead of trying to hide the extent of the problem - no one is believing much about someone have ten friends all with launch machines that had not a single problem playing in harsh conditions 12 hour a day non-stop, and that the failures is only desperate fanboys trying to spread FUD. The evidence is there for all to see - just visit a couple of kiosks and it will show it to you. Rather start applying some pressure to MS to fix the thing... but hang on, maybe those with the "ten friends with launch machines with no problems" are maybe just MS employees trying to stop the tide of information. Tell you what. post the serial numbers of the launch machines with the no problems, preferably a photo of it with today's newspaper, and we will believe it.
