Hmmm...now that's exactly a week after Slim...I wonder why?

ATY5359d ago (Edited 5359d ago )

These numbers don't appear right.

http://www.microsoft.com/pr...

US Prices:
199 with no drive
299 with 120 gig drive, black, no HDMI cable

I think they are taking the UK prices and converting them back into US dollars. Strange to report UK prices in USD.

WhittO5359d ago

Lol ye, seems like a bit of a coincidence!

Also, I can't believe the elite is still more expensive than the ps3!!

When it doesn't feature in-built Wifi, Bluetooth, same hard drive storage (upgradable to like over 800gb on ps3!) not to mention a Bluray drive lol.

ATY5359d ago

"When it doesn't feature in-built Wifi, Bluetooth, same hard drive storage (upgradable to like over 800gb on ps3!) not to mention a Bluray drive lol."

Just on pure hardware for 299:

PS3
120 gig drive - off the shelf upgrades
BluRay drive
HDMI 1.3
WiFi
Bluetooth
Internal power supply

360
120 gig drive
DVD drive
HDMI 1.2
External power supply

Crazy. And Microsoft is getting an extra 500 million a year from online fees to help cover the cost of the console.

Chris3995359d ago (Edited 5359d ago )

For anyone wondering about the disparity. The elite should be $299 or even lower though; I think it's a mistake to match the price of the slim, when the features weigh in favor of the PS3.

Guido5359d ago

Really MS? Really? 330?

Why would anybody buy a machine that has no WiFi, no BD player and has a tendency to RROD for 30 bucks more than the PS3? Did the gurus at MS die all of a sudden or is this just a corporate brain fart?

Mr_Bun5359d ago

I agree, even though these are Canadian prices, the elite should still be 299 to compete with the PS3 Slim...This will make the Elite the most expensive console in Canada

JoeRated5359d ago (Edited 5359d ago )

still is not a good deal, ps3 got built in wifi and a blue ray for 299
and xbox360 no wifi and no blue ray for 299 and you have to pay for online, ps3 is a better deal, is not going to help 360 maybe a little, but ps3 is a better deal, i don't got a ps3 but around oct i going to buy one.and i got xbox360 and i still going to keep it but still ps3 is a better deal, they need to lower it to 199 now thats a good deal

...would have tried for a $299 model. Mind you, if 360 and PS3 had an identical price it may lead to consumers actually comparing features which like it or not comes out in PS3s favor, only because of Blu-Ray and built in WiFi.

To be honest I think the big winner out of 360 and PS3 this Xmas will be the one with the strongest game line up.

Daishi5359d ago (Edited 5359d ago )

Already owning a 360 the price drop has little to do with me other than the fact that I'm psyched for the Slim. If I had neither console in all honesty the PS3 definately looks far superior when it comes to what's in the box. I do agree though that it comes down to games and I think Microsoft does a far better job at getting people excited about what's coming out, not just new games but DLC as well (one of the biggest sales pitches for ODST is the Halo 3 multiplayer). We haven't seen a bad Christmas yet (unless you own a Wii, yes I'm picking on Wii people who still only have the freaking game that came with the system).

yoghurt5359d ago

Here in the UK the elite has gone down, but the arcade has gone UP

Close_Second5359d ago

...was a mistake in my opinion. Developers have to work around the lowest common denominator which in the case of the 360 is the arcade.

Isn't the arcade also the lowest selling 360 SKU?

Ditch the arcade, make the pro the new low end SKU and offer existing arcade owners with an inexpensive means of adding on an HDD. Then, release a couple of must have games that make having an HDD mandatory.

1ST. NINTENDO Wii has the lamest gfx and motion sensing controller.
-Online gaming costs u NOTHING, but piracy helps WII sales.
-PAST: 3RD fastest selling console. (gamecube released at later time)
-NOW: 1ST fastest selling console @ $249 (waw)

2ND. XBOX 360 has the fatal RROD failure.
-Online gaming costs u $50/yr, but piracy helps XBOX 360 sales.
-PAST: 2ND fastest selling console.
-NOW: 2ND fastest selling console @ $199-$299

3RD. PLAYSTATION 3 has the unified breaking heart failure of fangirls/muppets/talibans.
-Online gaming costs u NOTHING, but no-piracy turns PS3 sales down
-PAST: 1ST fastest selling console. (waw)
-NOW: 3RD fastest selling console @ $299 (it really hurts fangirls/muppets/talibans)

ODDS:

1. PLAYSTATION 3 end up at 3RD PLACE in sales due to SONY'S FAILURE to debut the PS3 ahead of time. But the fangirls/muppets/talibans love to put the blame on it's competitors for releasing XBOX 360 and WII one year earlier.

2. PS3 EXCLUSIVE games is the only weapon for SONY to counter-attack MULTIFORMAT games that play better on XBOX 360. Also, first-party/exclusive games generate more revenues to SONY than third-party/multi-format games do.

CONCLUSION:

DO NOT buy the American console (XBOX 360), buy $299 SONY PLAYSTATION 3 - the Mighty Japan Console. Americans shouldn't need to proud of their XBOX 360. That's why we used a SUPRA REALISTIC YET ROBOTIC blond character (rendered 3 million polygons @ 160FPS 4DHD Occlusion, thanks to CELL & EMO Synthesizer) in the ads to fool you Americans to make profit the foreign company. Lol

USA!!!..USA!!!...USA!!!..It Only Breaks EVERYTHING...KABOOOM!!!

MS cant afford more price cuts. Mind you, they were already selling at a loss.

MS spend too much on viral marketing (bribing "journalists", buying (timed) exclusivity etc) and lowering their brick with 4 pricecuts. This didnt do well for their budget. Remember that the XBOX division runs on a budget because its just a small division within Microsoft.

When they and the internet were blackballing Sony on straws, Sony turned around and flexed their manufacturing muscles! Sony being a leader in hardware manufacturing shows what efficiency can do. They have lowered their costs up to 75% while bots were prematurely drinking champagne!

Meanwhile a 299 PS3 slim is selling for PROFIT (like the Wii) while 360 is still selling for loss. And xbots are wondering why MS cant lower its price again.

Haha, its like we have been saying for over a year: XBOX is fking FINISHED. Dead. DESTROYED.

PS3 has the best exclusive games and the most exclusive games while still enjoying all the support from the 3rd party studios (multi platform games).

PS3 has the Blu Ray format which is without any doubt the superior next gen format now.

PS3 has the best hardware with its CELL, harddrive, WIFI, wireless controller.

PS3 has the cheapest price now.

PS3 is the most futureproof.

PS3 is going to win this war. 360 is done.

Looking Back At 2008, An Unbelievably Incredible Year Of Video Game Releases

Huzaifa from eXputer: "2008 was home to the likes of Call of Duty: World at War, Dead Space, GTA 4, Far Cry 2, Left 4 Dead, and many other hits, which is outright remarkable."

ChasterMies3d ago

Some of these low paid video game “news” writers weren’t born before 2007.

just_looken3d ago

Here here

Those that were around before 2000's i am sure are like me that think we entered a world of non readers or those that follow without question.

I can not wait to see fallout 3 a goty game even though it was about water with non content until you add the dlc/updates then you got the performance/crashing

CrimsonWing693d ago

I don’t think anything can compare to 2023

lucasnooker3d ago

1998 - the best year in gaming! Metal gear solid, crash bandicoot 3, medievil, half life, ocarina of time, thief, tenchu, resident evil 2, Spyro, tomb raider 3, oddworld abes exodus, banjo kazooie.

It was a different breed of a gaming era. You’ll never understand what it was like back then. The aura of gaming, it was different!

KyRo3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

I second this. Gaming was a lot more varied and fun than it is today. I'm 35 so getting on compared to some here but I got to see all the changes from NES up to now but I've never felt so disappointed in any generation than I have this current gen. I was expecting more from this generation rather than prettier versions of games that came before it. Game mechanics have become so refined that alot of games feel the same and has done for a while now.

Maybe it's time to have a break for a while. I love gaming but I don't feel I get much fun in the traditional sense out of it anymore.

CrimsonWing693d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil 2, Abe’s Exodus, and Ocarina of Time are the only things from that list that I liked.

Here’s the 2023 game releases that I personally liked… and big releases that I didn’t care for:

- Dead Space Remake
- Wo Long Dynatsy
- Resident Evil 4 Remake
- Diablo 4
- Fire Emblem Engage
- Hogwarts Legcay
- Street Fighter 6
- Hi-Fi Rush
- Like a Dragon: Ishin
- Octopath Traveler 2
- Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters
- Final Fanatsy XVI (actually ended up not liking this, but it was still a big deal release)
- Baldur’s Gate 3
- Armored Core VI: Fires of Rubicon
- Lies of P
- Mortal Kombat 1
- Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Starfield (Ended up hating this one, but big release)
- Super Mario Bros. Wonder
- Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (I’m an old-school Zelda fan, but didn’t really enjoy this game)
- Alan Wake 2

I mean, honestly I’ve never seen a year of major IP releases like that, ever.

Profchaos3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

Isn't it just a generational thing realistically.

I've been gaming since way back and I some of my favourite games go as far back as the late 80s for me each generation has a year or two of game changing releases one after another before an inevitable dry spell.

I kind of agree gaming had a different feel games hit different because we didn't have the internet nothing got spoiled and you really had to put in the effort to beat a puzzle which could set entire groups of people looking for a solution. But most importantly games were experimental and not as cookie cutter as today even basics like controls were not universal today r2 is shoot l2 is ads garunteed you can't deviate from that in a shooter back then it could of been square, R1 or R1 and circle nothing was standard.

But as time moves on a new generation picks up their controller they are going to be interested in different things that PS1 demo disc with the t Rex blew our primitive 16 bit brains back on launch but to kids today it's laughable.
The new gen of kids coming into to hobby seem to value different things to us there seems to be a huge focus on online play, streamers, gaming personalities, and social experiences, convience of digital downloads. To me I value none of that but that's ok like my parents not liking the band's I would listen to its just the natural cycle.

Gameseeker_Frampt3d ago

Just about every year in the 7th generation was great and something we most likely won't experience again.

2009 for example had Assassin's Creed 2, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Dragon Age: Origins, Uncharted 2, Halo 3: ODST, Killzone 2, Borderlands, Bayonetta, and Demon's Souls to name a few.

just_looken3d ago

It still amazes me we got over 7 rockstar games ps2/ps3 but 3 for the ps3/ps4/ps5

Dragon age 1-3 and mass effect 1-3 in 7ish years what a generation.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos4d ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto4d ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger884d ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies3d ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.
