A trusted UK retailer has confirmed to VG247 that there is indeed a price cut coming to Xbox 360 and that the Pro is on the way out, starting this coming Friday, August 28. This comes on the heels of earlier confirmation of a price cut over on MCV.

According to our source, the Elite-price will drop from £239.99 to £199.99 - the same as a Wii while the Pro 60gb will be discontinued and will no longer be made available.

The prices in this article are some way off though - The Wii is £179.99 (not £199) and the elite is currently £209.99 by itself (not £239.99 like it says) so I can't see how a ten pound price cut is going to make a whole lot of difference.

Can you take the motherboard, and power supply out of the original PS3 and place it into the case of the Slim, does the slim have backwards compatability, can I install linux on the slim? You jump from one lame excuse to another. How can you honestly say creating a new PS3 (completely different design) was not something that sony needed to do. Sony was losing money on the old PS3 and needed to act quickly to gain some profit. It had nothing to do with pass on savings to your blind fanboy butt. You can walk up to the CEO of Sony, shake his hand and tell him your name then turn around and walk out the door, before are completely out the door, he would have already forgotten what your name was. You know why? Because you mean nothing to him. "Thanks for buying my product, now where is security, how the hell did he get in this building?". It's about getting back into the black. Sony knew that they needed to hit the 300 dollar price point if they wanted to really start selling the PS3. (People have been telling them this for months now and they wouldn't listen.)

They finally figure it out so they went out and designed a cheaper (both price and quality) machine so that they could reach that sweet spot. Let`s say we remove the one year head start the 360 has on Sony (for the fanboys) that basically makes them on par with each other. Now explain this, how does a console with so many issues (rrod/e74) keep pace with a well known brand name like Playstation when the PS3 is considered a reliable piece of hardware? What would the numbers look like if the 360 had no issues? obviously a hell of a lot of gamers would rather take their chances of getting the RROD then buy a PS3.

Lets clear something up shall we? The only reason why some games look better on 360 is the same reason why some games look better on PS3. A lot of developers use the 360 as the lead sku and optimize for performance that system and then port it over to the other system. Look at Burnout Paradise for example. It runs better on PS3 as far as online connectivity and bringing up events with the 360 a little behind it (not by much mind you). This's because Burnout was developed on the PS3 and then ported over to 360. Now lets take a game like Assassin's Creed. So far, the concences is that it looks and runs better on 360 as far as lighting, loading time, and frame rates. Now the real test is can you take a game like Uncharted 2 and port it over to the 360 and do you think you could take Gears of War 2 and port it to the 360 with out any significant performance issues? Honestly, Gears of War 1 & 2 could probably be put on one blu ray disc and play just fine PS3 while the 360 would probably need 2 HD DVDs to play Uncharted 2. (I'm basing that statement on the fact that Uncharted 2 is using a full 25GB of space on the Blu Ray disc. If I'm wrong, feel free to call me out on it, but please do not give me your ignorant fanboy drivel that I usually see on this site.

I'm no finance major, but last time I checked, when you sell more of a product and your profits evaporate, that means your product isn't profitable.

As for the PS3, their games division's losses the last fiscal year were a quarter of what they were two years ago, and half of what they were last year. That's at least moving in the right direction. Microsoft Entertainment meanwhile has slid back into the red despite increased sales.

Perhaps you should sign up for an economics class, or at the very least check your facts every once and awhile.

All this really is MS dropping the elite model, dropping the Pro title and renameing it the Elite, but wait they did not stop there, they also went ahead and made sure that they give you a pro out of the box by limiting what you would have got from an elite out of the box. So basicaly this is a pro rebranded as an elite with less out of the box than the current elite and pro but for more money.

Im not the richest guy in the world, so i did my research before investing in the next generation. Hence i scrimped and saved for a launch Ps3.

Coming to this site 2 years ago opened my eyes to the reliability problems regarding the 360.

So i bought a reliable product. It really is a crying shame Microsoft still has not fixed the hardware issues, if you could take your Xbox blinkers off for a second you would realise i just want the best for gamers. That goes for all console owners.

You should not have to turn your console on and worry that it may break.

The problem will never completely go away. As with any electronic product, there is a chance that it will break over time (or out of the box).

Every hardware failure for the 360 will give you the three red lights. Odds are, no matter how much they fix the problem, someone, somewhere will experience it. Howevever, that is not to automatically assume that it will still be a widespread problem.

It really was early on, and we all know this. But, we don't know how much better or worse things are with 360 reliability right now, and a poll of a few thousand people (who may or may not be truthful) won't really tell us anything either.

by saying that this site has opened your eyes to rrod. this site is populated by fanboys who'd gladly approve 99 more articles in a day with rrod "claims" just to fuel the rrod hype. which means that it's the ps3 fanboys who are to blaim here, since i know xbox 360 gamers wouldn't do it.

ps3 fanboys say "how many ylod stories have you really seen" when in fact it should be "we only approve articles that bash xbox".

the truth is that this site is the complete opposite. it's nowhere as valuable as a resource as it could be. but the fanboys don't care, they'd rather keep the flamewar going.

the 360 a pile of junk old tec in hd upscaled....And the most poorly made hardware ever made, which microsoft new about as well. then have the cheek to release the elite with the same defect as the first. That should tell you how microsoft treat there customers selling you shoddy hardware.....when microsoft brings out there next one and stops making 360s it wont be long when there be no more working at all....They will have games that they wont be able to play on a dead console...

Everyone of you should be thankful because without Microsoft, Sony would not have a Slim @$300 anytime soon. Price cut is good for everyone, so more people can own both systems to enjoy the complete selection of gaming.

This site is out of control. I say FU while I'll be enjoying my ODST, Uncharted 2, Forza 3 in the next 2 months. This place is like the ghetto and every posts is like drive by.

If Microsoft wasn't around being competitive and keeping Sony on its toes, we'd probably still see people complaining about a 500-600 dollar PS3.

I guess people seem to think that these revisions and price drops were happening "just because."

The reality is that all of these companies (except Nintendo at the moment) do things in reaction to each other and things happening in the market. Whatever helps them to stay competivie as well as profitable, then they will do it when the time seems fit.

I think I'm the only one that thinks this, but I fail to see a price cut. The elite should have never existed in the first place... it should have replaced the pro right off the bat.

Someone said that for 50 extra you get so much more. In reality you get 2 blue ray and wifi, which noone that plays online uses because the frequency is always lower and unstable unlike a hardwire connection. So really the only thing you get is Blueray so only 1 thing more cuz its a fact that xbl is better. But to be fair the blueray alone is worth more than 50 extra, in my opinion it is a great deal if youre looking @ hardware alone, software is a preference thing, but sony's line up has been great recently.

Definitely a good time to buy a 360. I moved and left mine with my brother, so I think I'll be going Elite this year.

PS3 Slim? I might buy one just to play my movies, or just buy a straight bluray player. It'll look better in my entertainment center anyway. Yeah, no I'll have gaming and online covered with my Elite thank you very much.
