SpoonyRedMage5388d ago (Edited 5388d ago )

I don't know what to make of this considering Lost Odyssey is four discs...

We'll have to wait and see...

Chris3995388d ago

It's basically a JRPG space opera version of Star Wars. You've got an evil empire, some "rebels" fighting against said Empire, and a mysterious "force" (don't remember what they call it). Oh, and enemies that look identical to storm-troopers.

http://ps3.ign.com/dor/obje...

(But with a dash of yellow in their armor - how revolutionary!)

Whole lot of cheese going on. The voice overs in the recent trailers made me cringe a little too.

I'm much more excited about Vs. and even Final Fantasy Gaiden.

And my apathy has nothing to do with the game being mutli-plat. It just doesn't look very inspired. We've seen it all, and with greater originality, before. The cut scenes look pretty though :)

SpoonyRedMage5388d ago

Well quite a bit of FF is pretty much Star Wars. Biggs, Wedge, Golbez is pretty much Vader, the entirety of FFXII.

I think the game will be good though, probab;ly even great but yeah Versus and Gaiden look awesome. I personally haven't seen enough to declare any of them superior yet though.

Crystal Bearers also looks fantastic in my opinion.

Hellsvacancy5388d ago (Edited 5388d ago )

Completely agree ff13 has been a rental from day1 4me it looks 2 girlie 4my likin - i wont mention the Final Fantasy game that i WILL b buyin coz thats off topic (gotta V in it)

Havin 3 or more discs aint a problem if it wasnt 4 Sonys 4sight we would all hav 2 swap discs - never bothered me b4 gave me an excuse 2 get up a roll me a smoke

Defectiv3_Detectiv35388d ago

For those that have worries about the game being gimped to fit on 360, it sounds like they are struggling to make it fit on 3 DVDs. I wonder if they are going to have to cut some stuff out.

shingo5388d ago (Edited 5388d ago )

looks like they're going to do a lot of files compression then, because the JP ps3 demo size was pretty big in comparison to its content.

at all cases, i have a feeling this game will be short compared to previous ff games. :/ this gen keeps giving shorter and shorter games, but i hope to be proven wrong.

cmrbe5388d ago

You guys shouldn't be talking about disc numbers. MS screw up with going DvD this gen.

Guido5388d ago

FFXIII dumbed down for fewer discs - CONFIRMED.

ultimolu5388d ago (Edited 5388d ago )

Microsoft went with the wrong format.

That's all I have to say about this.

I certainly hope the game is still good.

hay5388d ago

@Chris399: Lol, true. Thought the same way.

5388d ago
blind-reaper5388d ago

I guess having FFXIII on 3 DVDs is better than no FFXIII! (but not better than having FFXII on one blu-ray)

Shuya5388d ago

Yes it is unsettling that the biggest rpg this gen is going to be smaller than those that came before it.

I love final fantasy, I just hope their business decisions are not effecting this games development.

Microsoft Xbox 3605388d ago

Content cut downed for the PS3 because of the 360 confirmed.

MEsoJD5388d ago

just give me versus. The story in this just seems boring.

gaffyh5388d ago

Ok erm...Lost Odyssey was on 4 discs, and although that game was good, there were parts where it looked like a PS2 game. 3 discs means either the game is a lot shorter or it will sacrifice the graphics.

ZOMBIEMAN15388d ago

you have to be an idiot to get the 360 version if you have both systems and honestly i don't care for FFXIII never have i've always wanted FF Vs XIII

FarEastOrient5388d ago

Good luck in making the game smaller!

Saaking5388d ago

MS made a mistake by rushing out 1 year earlier. The 360 was NOT ready. Remember that they chose to go with DVD and the first 360s did not have HDMI slot. The 360 wasn't ready and look what happened. Sure, they're beating Sony but still. It wasn't ready.

FarEastOrient5388d ago

On my PS3 I have the Final Fantasy XIII Trailers in 1080P (How they are shown in E3 and TGS) in Japanese. The American version of the same trailers were released in 720P, I don't know what kind of monitors people use out there because there is a difference that can be seen at native 1080P in comparison to 720P.

I hope this isn't going to happen to the Western version of the game...

On my other comment on another page I did state that I'm getting three versions of this game for reviewing, so wish me luck!

leyego5388d ago (Edited 5388d ago )

ill be waiting for the reviews on this one.
the only reason y i got the other FF's was because they did something different. more recently ffx-2 with the job system, ff11 with online play and ff12 with the new battle system

ff13 just seems like they copied ff7 and added next gen graphics and added a new face to the core gameplay (battle system, magic, summons etc.)
unless the story is top notch or theres something new to get excited about then i wont be interested in the least.

on the other hand ffv13 seems to have more of a KH type battle system. that gets me interested but not enough to crap my pants over. lets see some ingame trailers and battles.

Christopher5388d ago

I just recently got Lost Odyssey and haven't even cracked the casing (gotta finish a few other games first), but I don't know how well it stands up overall.

The biggest files will be audio and visual files, but I can't compare the difference in locations or different methods used to 'enhance' locations without having to redraw lots of background and world elements (aka sprite and particle effect technology).

I think this could be no big issue depending on how they handle the graphics and also if they go with a lower audio quality than 5.1 Dolby. I'll hold my opinion until we see some hands-on 360 gameplay, especially with the news that the main storyline is 50 hours long, which is a good amount of time for the typical FF game, IMHO.

marinelife95388d ago

I will buy this game because it's too long to rent and I don't have gamefly nor would I want to wait. However, I will buy it USED Square will not get one penny of my money. I save my patronage for Sony exclusives only. Everything else is used or a rental.

GUNS N SWORDS5388d ago (Edited 5388d ago )

you know, it's amazing listening to you guys, nobody talks like this out side of n4g. n4g's become like a broken down dysfunctional family that's been diveded up.

you know i don't see what's the grand point in talking all this smack about one console on is. kitase ,SE ,MS ,konami ,EA ,almost the whole world is oblivious to n4g's existence.

the pay off of flaming is little, in fact it's pretty much all philanthropy. and why is all this bashing in the "Gamer Zone" i thought we're all supposed to be gamers here.

el zorro5388d ago

Very sad, but very true. Virtually nobody in the real world thinks the way the fanatics on this site think. You can hate on the 360 all day long, but it's not going to change people's minds. Making a big deal about a game being on more than one disc? Come on people, that's ridiculous. It's not a big deal at all.

potenquatro5388d ago (Edited 5388d ago )

I'm not saying anybody is a dumbass. But imho all this DVD=gimped argument is a dumbass one. Saying MS made a mistake using DVD is even more dumbass. It looks like fanboys ripping on MS for no reason.

How many FF games have been multi-disc?? Exacly.

""Do you guys actually want one-by-one comparisons of every multiplat this gen? Cause no matter what SDF says, the evidence says otherwise. Wanna compare excusives? Oh wait...You can't. I'm guessing disc swaping is better then frame drops and lower tier online for some people""............ See that....Anybody can be a fantard. Console war is stupid.

Flaiming philanthropists on N4g lololol

Immortal Kaim5388d ago

Agree. All I ever see is bloody whining on this site, I sometimes wonder if people here actually play and enjoy games.

btw Who said the game was going to be on a dual layer BRD (50gb) in the first place? Uncharted 2 is only on a single layer disk (25gb) and the game looks phenomenal.

All-35388d ago

I guess FF XIV will be gimped too...

Ongoing discussions with Microsoft about how Final Fantasy XIV is to work with Xbox Live are partly to blame for the lack of announced 360 version, producer Hiromichi Tanaka told VG247 at GamesCom today.

“FFXI for 360; at that point PS2 didn’t have a hard disc [and] that was really difficult for us, but Xbox 360 had that from the beginning, so that really helped us. We managed to smoothly move onto 360 from the Windows version, so that was very good to us,” said the developer.

“However, for FFXIV, because 360 has its own policy with Xbox Live that is different from [the] internet, that’s something we’re in discussions with Microsoft [about], to come to an agreement. That’s one of the reasons it’s not going to be launched at that point.”

The “point” being the simultaneous release of the PS3 and Windows versions next year.

Tanaka told us in the same conversation that the words “launch timing” were “cut out” of SCEA boss Jack Tretton’s FFXIV exclusivity announcement FFXIV at E3, and that it “doesn’t mean that we’re not going to have a 360 [version] in the future”.

If this had been a PS3 exclusive it would have taken a full 50 gb of space. But now the PS3 version has to be downgraded so that the 360 version can fit on 3 discs.

Hellsvacancy5388d ago

Y do u think Versus is only on the Ps3 - coz there gonna do EXACTLY that

user8586215388d ago

y cnt the bots just stick with their dumb ass no brain shooters

rpgs on 360 = fail just look at

FFXIII 360 = 3? DVD's

RAGE = 2/3? DVD's

Forza 3 = 2 DVD's

Hmm...the xBox 360 don't sound very Next-Gen!!! ;-D

free3sixty5388d ago

Well fool, what will you say when the 360 version will look better like in 95% of multiplatt. games? Will you also say the ps3 version was gimped down? lol...

They polish the PS3 version, cause they saw after the yportet the 360 version that it looks much better as the ps3 version which was lead platt.. same like ghostbusters.

Please think before posting!

ssipmraw5388d ago

good old ninja gaiden sigma 2

Amir515388d ago

Need i remind you that so far in 2009 54% of multiplat titles score higher on ps3 according to metacritic?

How do your words taste? Cause you've just eaten them :)

OmarJA5388d ago

Garbage furnace 3FixMe with last gen tech...

I've seen toasters with more & better modern tech.

OmarJA5388d ago

I can't wait to play XIII, Versus & XIV on my PS3. :)

StayHigh5388d ago

Square better not hold anything back on the PS3 version!! i bet you the 360 version will be on 4 disks now who would want to buy that version ..

MGSR THE HD VERSION5388d ago

"So(on the xBox 360)it's -
FFXIII 360 = 3? DVD's

RAGE = 2/3? DVD's

Forza 3 = 2 DVD's

Hmm...the xBox 360 don't sound very Next-Gen!!! ;-"

neither does the wii yet look at how it sells...so shut the f up.

...lol, ps3 gamers are so bummed out now cause they can't now say 360's version will be on 8 to 10 dvds.

SnuggleBandit5388d ago (Edited 5388d ago )

^^^^
so there's the sales=/=quality arguement you bots always forget to throw in there lol

the fact is people this gen have not made informed decisions...that's why the wii has sold so much...and as far as xbox 360, the only reason i haven't bought one is a combo of $50 a year live fees, RROD(biggest factor), and also the lack of games that are ONLY on the 360.

RockmanII75388d ago

If you don't have all 3 systems, you are either not a true gamer or have money issues (I'm the latter)

frnkyl5388d ago

Wait so they're "aiming" for 3 DVDs? Doesn't that mean it could possibly ship with more than 3 DVDs?

topdawg1225388d ago

I could only imagine how this game would look if this game stayed PS3 exclusive. It's oviously gonna be gimped down it sucks

Fiona5388d ago

I expected four dvd but good for them if they can get it out in 3.

Omega45388d ago

Expected more considering LO was four and didnt even have that many CG cutscenes especially compared to FF games.

Though it beats the 10 DVDs some people thought it would be on

mrv3215388d ago

So what your bar is set so low, 3 discs is still 2 more discs than needed because Microsoft said 'Blu-ray isn't need'... and guess what they where wrong.

Oh yeah it'll be a good game, but c'mon with more and more games coming out on 3 or 4 discs and now not even JRPG's but other games aswell you must be thinking Sony was right to include Blu-ray.

jahcure5388d ago (Edited 5388d ago )

2 yrs ago (when blu-ray wasn't needed), all 360 games were on 1 disc, the PS3 comes into flow and multiplat are larger games. So here we are, 4 yrs into the 360's life (on which MS themselves says will last 1 day longer than the ps3's) and they're up to 3-4 discs per game...what do we have to look forward to in the next two years?

Why do all the xbox only gamers or supporters only see the here and now?

2 yrs ago---bluray not needed
today---3 to 4 discs ain't so bad
2 years later---at least all 10 discs are in one case??

stay tuned

mrv3215388d ago

Well if a 50gb blu-ray is Maxed out you'd need about 6 dvd didcs but the PS3 can be upgraded or so I hear to 100 gb which brings it to 11 dvd discs.

So we'll see.

Omega45388d ago

I dont care about swapping discs, didnt bother me in the ps1 era with FFVII, didnt bother me in the ps2 era with SO3 or Shadow Hearts and it wont bother me now either

FFXIII on 20 disks >>>>>>> No FFXIII at all

mrv3215388d ago

How about on the next GTA when you have to swap disc from Island to Island that'll get old FAST. But let me guess you still won't mind.

Or how about in Wolfenstein if you have to swap discs just by walk from one side of the city to the other. Will you still not mind?

And if it effects graphics by lower textures etc what then? Because we know devs will try to put games on one disc to reduce costs but that means sacrificing graphics but you still won't mind because it's your precious console.

Jamie Foxx5388d ago (Edited 5388d ago )

stop the spin, 'PLEASE INSERT DISC 4' in this day and age is uncalled for, this along with RROD and you really think ms are doing anything great in the gaming community? xbl their great service even that you have to pay for and PSN a free service is catching up fast.

open your eyes ms are not all you think they are

maruchan27six5388d ago

"FFXIII on 20 disks >>>>>>> No FFXIII at all"

If you lost/damaged some of the discs, there is no way you can play the game.
Hell, even if you lost a disc.

ultimolu5388d ago

...How can you justify swapping disks when this is the year 2009 and we're heading into 2010?

How in the world can you spin this into a good thing Omega? I would rather take installs than to get up and swap disks. This is why MGS4 isn't multiplatform!

jib5388d ago

guys are over dramatic about disc swapping. you'll have to swap discs every 15 hours into the game or so. is that really that big of a deal for something that takes less than 30 seconds

Christopher5388d ago

I think FFXIII is using more in-game cut scenes than CGI cut scenes, which would definitely help to reduce some of the space needed. There will be some CGI cut scenes, though, as seen in the demo, but I don't think they'll be as prevalent as usual FF games.

Ri0tSquad5388d ago

LO had enough. Every disc ended in a cutscene and there were at least 2 or 3 before each disc ended. I put close to 40 hours into it and I'm on disc 4, inside the Grand staff. For 4 discs, I think the game is pretty short. And regardless of how "easy" it is to switch discs, it's last gen. When that cutscene ended in LO and they told me to put in disc 2, I thought I was playing a PS1 RPG, seriously.

RAAAAAGE5388d ago

If you lose your FF13 Blu-Ray disc or damage it, then you can't play it either. Honestly that excuse is stupid.

Hobadoon5388d ago (Edited 5388d ago )

Honestly man I was getting ready to type the same response but you beat me to it. I agree, maruchan27six's argument on that one was really really dumb..

Some people are pathetic at debating. I'd say about 70% of this site.

beardpapa5388d ago

who wanted to store music in their iPods, who wanted to store their DVD movie collection into harddrives, who wanted to Tivo tv shows instead of recording them into discs....

the very same people who want to push forward digital distribution....

the very same people who would like to carry their NDS games on the R4 or PSP games on the mem stick...

these very people have things in common:

They want to carry more in less. They want convenience.

Now you hypocrites are telling me it's okay to have several discs and that swapping discs isn't a problem? What happened to convenience? You wanna go back to floppy-era ?

The 7 Best Final Fantasy Characters: Unveiling the Legends

While FFVII ranks highly, there's more to the series than one game. Here's Chit Hot's picks for the seven best Final Fantasy characters.

220°

The older it gets, the more I respect Final Fantasy XIII

Alex Donaldson: "Hindsight is a hell of a thing, however, and in the years since Final Fantasy XIII, my respect for the decisions its developers made has skyrocketed. In the two Final Fantasy titles since we see both the brilliance and the folly in alternative approaches - and in Final Fantasy VII Remake, we get a more nuanced understanding of what FF13 was trying to accomplish from many of the same development leads."

Einhander1972151d ago

FFXIII is actually one of the best Final Fantasy games.

I also sort of was disappointed at the time, never as much as the bandwagon. But really all the fantastic 3D rendered cutscenes and I actually liked the characters and the story though convoluted was actually fantastic and the ending was extremely emotional. So much budget and time were put into that game Square had such big plans, I actually have always felt kind of bad for how things played out.

I have been thinking for years how great it would be to get all three games on one disk for PS4 or 5.

Nyxus151d ago

I always liked this game, and I agree, a rerelease for current gen would be nice.

Shane Kim150d ago (Edited 150d ago )

Gotta take off the nostalgia glasses. It's the worst FF. Shiva as a bike, I mean come on.

Elda150d ago

Shiva as a bike is strange but saying FFXIII is the worst FF is not at all a fact, that's simply your opinion.

Terry_B149d ago

*One of the 3 equally bad FF's

DivineHand125150d ago (Edited 150d ago )

When I got my series X a year ago, I bought FF13 for nostalgia reasons but ended up being disappointed. When I first played it around the time it launched, I didn't have a lot of experience with final fantasy games, so I enjoyed it. Fast forward to when I played it again, I found that the game had many unnecessary filler moments instead of just giving us meaningful content.

The game is also very linear and a quote on the article said it best. "It is like a sewage pipe that leads to the ocean until it opens up on Grand Pulse."

The story didn't make much sense either and I believe it is my mistake as I played the FF7 remake on PS5 prior which is a night and day difference in terms of pacing, storytelling and likeable characters even though cloud is aloof.

FinalFantasyFanatic149d ago (Edited 149d ago )

Probably was a mistake to play any of the golden era FFs first (e.g. FF6 through FF10), it makes it harder to enjoy some of the FFs that aren't as good. I think FF12 was where major issues with the series started becoming apparent, and it just got worse from there.

FinalFantasyFanatic149d ago (Edited 149d ago )

I didn't really care for it that much, the only saving grace was that it had a better story than 15 (overall it was better than 15) and possibly 12, and even then, you had to read some of it through primers, like reading a book. Plus the battle system was reasonably fun for what it was, even if it was more the spectacle that was exciting for me (e.g. summoning). And to be fair, the 13 trilogy got better with every games, I still don't like Snow though.

Gamingsince1981149d ago

Ff13 is only good if you haven't played a ff before, or any other games that are decent for that matter.

-Foxtrot149d ago

It is in fact no way the best Final Fantasy game, it's one of the worst

Linear corridors, Cutscene, Fight, Cutscene...rinse and repeat

Dialogue and characters are pretty bad, especially Lightning as the main FF hero, they literally said they tried to make a "Female Cloud" and they failed.

Story was pretty awful

I could go on

I think the only alright thing that came from the game was the music.

Elda149d ago

That's not a fact that's your personal opinion. The game sold 11 million copies between its 2009 release up until 2014 including critically reviewed as an 8 out of 10 or an 80 out of 100. The game does have some issues but it's not at all a fact as one of the worst FF games.

i liked the game alot but i didnt like how they handled the terminology.

i dont mind reading data logs but it had soo many.

but i always loved the music and how it looked. the battle system wasnt too bad either.

but i like 13-2 more :)

i still dont understand why we never got a remaster of the trilogy

Eonjay149d ago

Xbox kinda did. Besides the video files of course which are still best on PS3 due to bluray.

Snookies12151d ago

XIII is a pretty solid game, but XIII-2 is WAY better. XIII-2 was one of the few games I decided to go for a Platinum trophy in, early on. Had so much fun the entire way through getting it too!

Eonjay149d ago

Totally agree. FF 13 was okay but 13-2 is my favorite FF game ever.

shinoff2183151d ago (Edited 151d ago )

I hated this to when it released. I haven't much liked a ff game since ff10 as much , aside from ff7remake. I decided to give it another shot on my series x since it's not on a current ps and was liking it quite a bit(just takes me some time to get over things ) until star ocean 2 remake came out I was all over that.

Square should definitely remaster it or something for ps4 ps5
