Product Reviews: Project Natal looks to be one of the best pieces of technology we have seen since the Wii first came along. However, the new Project Natal for use with the Xbox 360 blows anything we have ever seen in gaming out of the water.

Motion Controllers are just a gimmick. I don't care who makes them. You don't release a peripheral like that this late in the console cycle if your serious about developing for it. This tech wont be out until late next year, how much longer do you people think the 360 will be out?

At 200$, I really don't see this tech spreading fast enough to warrant all these predictions that it will 'change teh face of gaming'.

Its sad that we're sitting here talking about a glorified camera, but it makes sense, because its not like there are a lot of 360 games to be talking about. MS has a serious void in their lineup. They don't have a single GOTY contender.

And I really think its sad that people are trying to pawn off Splinter Cell as a GOTY contender. Nobody even thought to mention ODST, and I thought Halo was supposed to be the 360's flagship game.

Anyways, Assassin's Creed looks better than Splinter Cell, and I wouldn't even call that game a contender.

I think the point that Darkride is trying to make is that the survey pool is skewed toward the 360 statistically, as there is a larger install base than the PS3 and that base is more likely to respond to a poll like this than the Wii user base, that this poll is pretty much useless.

I seriously can't see how these things could REDEFINE THE GAMING INDUSTRY. If companies think like that, then sadly they don't even know what true gamers want.

As far as this article goes... M$ made fools of competition... Are you joking... all they did was sign a death warrant cause if Milo fails, Natal=PSEye. If PSEye couldn't REDEFINE gaming at a time when more than 100 million PS2 were out, Natal stands no chance. The only way is to thrust the thing down peoples throats like wii does with it's motion sensors... I can bet anything that won't do that simply cause Natal will be expensive.

Third party will be divided off which to support... Supporting PS controller would be easier compared to Natal mainly cause Natal claims NO BUTTONS. Without buttons, say bye bye to Shooters and Fighters on Natal... You cannot disagree that Shooters are the 360's and PS3's biggest market and no Natal support on TPS and FPS means a real big nail in the coffin.

As I said, Natal's biggest let down is it's claim of NO BUTTONS. Sony did the clever thing here. They copied Nintendo's controller and made it a 1:1 tracking controller. People always complained about Nintendo not having hardcore games and crap graphics... Well Sony just heard their plea and launched a controller with massive potential. It might look crappy to look at from those videos, but the accuracy they showed was simply remarkable... Before that, I couldn't imagine taking head shots with any motion controllers (including Natal), but after seeing that Archery display, Sony has done it's Homework and have something bigger in hand.

Forza has outscored Grean Turismo for 2 games straight. Foza just proved its graphics are just as good as GT5 and the environments look even better in Forza 3.

And Forza 3 was announce in June and will ship in October, Gran Turismo 5 was announced 4 years and still doesn't have a release date. Also, it wont match even Forza 2 in features and Forza 3 is going to have overall a higher Metacritic score than Gran Turismo 5....by the time it releases people will have already seen Forza 3's graphics...GT5 really doesn't look better.

The problem is with Natal is that you can only play few games with it. Playing Gears of War, Call of Duty, Fable, or Halo with Natal would be impossible. You can only play sports, racing, and minigames with the thing. You need a controller to play the other genres.

Newer 360s are as quiet as the PS3. In fact, my friend's 360 is actually quieter than my PS3. My 360 is a hair louder than my PS3, but not enough to make much of a difference.

Bad graphics? Sure buddy. I have both machines and if you want to know the truth, the 360 actually tends to have the better graphics on most games. Many of the PS3 exclusives are nice-looking, but not really any better than the better-looking 360 games. At worst, you could say that the two console's graphics are fairly comparable.

3 exclusives? Now we know you are full of crap. At this moment the 360 has a much larger library of games than the PS3 and that includes a larger library of exclusives. Go look it up.

We know you won't though, because you are just a PS3 fanboy trolling and trying to pretend that you just bought a 360. When in fact, everything you said was provably wrong.

i got mine from best buy about 4 hours ago. i got an elite that came with fable 2 and halo 3. at best buy, i was with a friend who has only a 360 and i asked him what game i should get starting off with my 360. he said fable 2 and halo are good games that showcase the machine pretty well. i looked for about 5 minutes more at the games at best buy, trying to see if there was any exclusives i was missing out on....nope. i couldnt find anything that wasnt multi platform. live was the biggest pain in the @$$ to set up with that POS dpad and non-querty keyboard(PS, is there any way to change that) I think the live store or market or whatever is pretty nice, but the avatar is retarded. and my elite is LOUD. freaking really loud. It was quiet until i put in halo 3. Then its like vroooooom. i hope it doesnt break already.

MS said it at E3, the 360 will be out till 2015.... that places Natal at the middle of its life cycle.
If MS puts so much money into it, they`ll make sure it works. It will probably be compaptible with the next xbox as well.

Thwe only motion controls we really know about and how they work so far are the Wii and , to a lesser extent the sixaxis and the Eyetoy stuff.

When we get to play it, see more with our eyes OR, on the odd chance that it may,it gets canned. Judging from what they show, you could have yourself scanned with the driving wheel peripheral of your choice in your hands and use that as a controller.

I don`t see this as much of a thing for gaming aside from Jedi gimmicks.

The real deal comes from logging you on instantly when it recognizes your face or scrolling through the UI with simple Obi Wan gestures.

Voice recognition would be great if it can "Lauch Castle Crashers" when I say so and recognizee the 2 other people on the couch and sign them on automatically so they play too. Then I want to play it with a 360 controller as usual.

Sony is scared, I was recently at their meeting and how can they compete home barely allows you to look at the bottom of their shoes.

And then, Microsoft showed some exclusive games which are coming out on the PC and will be better and all sony showed are great exclusive that will only come out on PS3.

And now what the took MGS and made it multiplatform and all sony has is Uncharted, MAG, GOD 3, LOST PLANET 2 but unlike microsoft they didn't make a big deal.

And then you have Milo which is smoke and mirrors compared to Motion control.

I've looked at both project Natal and Sonys motion controller demos several times and I have to say Natal is going to be unusable in anything other than Wii style mini games. The Sony motion controllers on the other hand will be able to work with many types of full scale complex games, who actually wants to sit there banging there fist into their hands to simulate a buzzer or pretending to turn a non existent steering wheel, the level of precision with that is going to be hit and miss to say the least but at least you can dress a avatar with a wave of your hand. No thanks.

Yes there are. Totemball and it sucks balls. The Vision Cam is really garbage when it comes to motion sensing. This tech is light years beyond what the Vision Camera is. It shouldn't even be compared nor should the shoddy EyeToy which lacks in tech compared to Natal.

To be fair, if Milo can even be close to a reality, and with Lionhead behind it, it can come damned close, then it offers so much more in terms of potential than just a motion controller.

Think about being able to interact on that level with an actual game. Say a game not unlike Heavy Rain in which you meet with different NPCs to solve a murder. The thing is, you're utterly wrong. Natal does a whole host of things that aren't possible at all with the older technologies. Why would a company like 3DV Systems spend loads of money in research to develop accurate 3d motion tracking technology if it had already been done before? Why would Microsoft spend the money to buy such a company and integrate their advancements into their own technology if it had all been done before? The answer is, they wouldn't.

The fact that some of you are too simple minded to understand the technology doesn't mean that the rest of the world can't see the huge advancement in motion tracking that Natal represents.

Well, I never bashed Sony or Guerrilla for showing CGI videos. I didn't really think it was a big deal. Lot's of companies do that and Sony does it perhaps more than anybody. So I really wasn't surprised, nor fooled by it.

The thing is though, that these two situations are very different. Sony showed amazing footage of KZ2 and told everyone it was real-time gameplay. And they didn't invite members of the press to come check it out later to prove that it was indeed an actual working game. Because of course, it wasn't a real game at that point.

Milo on the other hand was shown at the conference through a pre-recorded video to present it in a stylistic and controlled way, but they did invite members of the press to check it out after the event to show that it is very real technology. Albeit technology that is still in development.

The technology might still be in development, but that doesn't mean that we can't be excited about what we believe might be the potential. How is it different than anything else we see at E3? We see a bunch of games and features and based on what we can ascertain we decide if they are something to look forward to or not. None of us know beyond a doubt if God of War 3 or Mass Effect 2 are going to fulfill all of their promise until we actually get the games home and play them for our self. I feel the same way about Natal. I think it is amazing technology that holds a lot of promise, but just how good it will be I won't know until I actually get to see the finished product.

Microsoft was demoing Natal behind closed doors just like Sony was. Ign has a really good read on it. Giant Bomb podcast covered it extensively and I believe the 1up guys did as well. They got to demo Natal with Burnout demonstrating basic capabilities and the potential Natal had. Considering Burnout was not designed around Natal its pretty impressive.

A lot of Natal haters say you have to have buttons for some things. True, I agree, but Natal doesn't mean you can't incorporate a regular controller into a scheme using Natal. MS didn't show that because they wanted to focus on the ability to control without a gimmicky waggle wand.

In the worst case scenario Natal will be able to do exactly what Sony's tech can do if you add in a couple of sticks with glowing balls. People don't realize this and its another feature MS has remained quite on because they dont want to cause confusion.

Walking around a Best Buy today, I walked past the aisle that had a $170 game that still requires a console purchase to play....and the setup isnt good for anything else but this game,sequels and expansions for it..
So I dont find it hard to believe for a second that people would pay "Rock Band prices" for a gadget that allows voice activated/motion control for games and system use/navigation. Seems like more potential "value" to me than a big box of plastic joysticks that resemble instruments.

P.S. I tire of the its a eye toy deluxe or this techs been done before.Being first puts you in history books but doesnt entitle you to much else.

Thereby your opinion shouldn't be considered. But fortunately for you i am a nice guy. So i will consider it. The same does not apply to "any fanboy". I personally am a SONY fanboy, i'm just not a PS3 fanboy (i own a Vaio, Bravia, PS1, and PS2). I chose the 360 because it was abundantly clear to me that it was the better choice. However, in any case, i have a healthy respect for the PS3. In particular games like Uncharted and LBP. However, i do not blindly consider my console "the best" simply because of the addition of "unique" or innovative hardware.

Instead, i think of it like this. For the same price as the Cell, Sony could have INSTEAD used a Quad-core, out of order processor. Which, by the way, is much stronger than the Cell, particularly for gaming. Similarly any extra money could have been used for a stronger video card, memory, etc. Secondly, Blu-ray 'to most people' isn't a logical step forward. Its image quality improvement is hardly necessary and CLEARLY another 'disk format' isn't a step in the right direction. Something like compact flash (or similar) makes much more sense.

In this regard, i am upset at Sony for building a system that FORCED ME to buy a 360 instead. Sony's poor hardware decisions are something that EVERY PS3 fanboy must live with, while Microsoft's poor harware quality is something that only 16% of us have had to live with.

America has spoken, and it is abundantly clear that the 360 is more attractive. SO please leave "PS3-land" and come join.. 'real world land'. Where the PS3 isn't as special as all of you seem to think it is.

All I know is that I have 7 games per-ordered for my 360 that can't be played on a PS3. I have two games per-ordered for my PS3 that can't be played on a 360.
As far as Natal, if they make games that I want to play then I will buy one. It's not so much the hardware it all about the games!

Something like 93% or 94% of media outlets scored Microsoft's E3 #1. That my friends is COMPLETE AND TOTAL DOMINATION.

Microsoft came in with a questionable Fall/Holiday lineup and left E3 with the best Fall/Holiday lineup. Simply amazing what MS was able to accomplish given how so many claimed MS had "nothing left in the tank".

Sony came in with an incredible Fall/Holiday lineup banking on the rumors that titles like Heavy Rain, God of War 3 and even GT 5 would be dropping this year. All 3 of those games slipped to 2010 leaving a once great lineup in second place now looking up to MS's phenomenal Fall/Holiday lineup. And who at Sony thought it was wise to put MAG up close to Modern Warfare 2? The game already looks like poop and plays like a generic PS2 game. MAG is like a "Special Olympian" competing in the regular Olympics.

NO PRICEDROP + $249.99= WTF?
