Wait a second… Square Enix has a lineup of Xbox 360 titles?

Spencer writes,

Yes, according to the Infinite Undiscovery press release. Here is the eye catching statement, "the first in a completely new lineup of Square Enix titles for Xbox 360, this fantasy RPG (role-playing game) is a collaborative project with fan favorite development studio tri-Ace Inc."

"Completely new lineup?" Square Enix has openly supported the Xbox 360, but beyond the Last Remnant there aren't any other announced Xbox 360 games in the pipeline. Of course, Square Enix could and probably does have other Xbox 360 games in development regardless of the statement. The question has always been "how many" and lineup sounds like some.

as long as you don't give them FF13..... its ok

JasonPC360PS3Wii5828d ago (Edited 5828d ago )

The Final Fantasy will come to the Xbox heyheyhey, I can't stand the games but it's comming. Square has a history of going to the console that makes them money, Xbox does that like no other. Anyone on my friends list will be removed if a FF title shows up in their gamerscore. All the PS3 will have left is MGS and I'm sure 5 will make it's way aswell.

Obama5828d ago

ff13 is not comming to the xbox, don't worry. Even the head developers said it's programmed to be a ps3 exclusive.

JasonPC360PS3Wii5828d ago

9 bubbles but you can't read, f**king idiot.

Obama5828d ago

And if you have read my comment carefully u would realize that I am talking to heyheyhey, hence using the phase "don't worry". But anyways, I just wish the ff series will never land on your flopbox, which can't even handle ff 13.

PopEmUp5827d ago (Edited 5827d ago )

Of course the Final Fantasy will come to 360 but it's arrived in the next million years so then you can enjoy it, oh wait isn't you be dead by then LMAO HAHAHAAH!!! XD I hope to die

n to the b5827d ago

here we go, let's make fun of microsoft for not getting a release first/right away. yet most sony fans here will try and take it the other way when it works to their advantage and say, "we're getting Bioshock and Mass Effect!" yeah like a full year later...

Well they're also doing The Last Remnant for Xbox 360 but it's multi-platform. Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII are PS3 exclusives.

sonarus5828d ago

To be honest, i have a feeling that Msoft could steal E3 by announcing FFXIII or FFXIII VS as a multiplatform title. It would be a major blow to sony but it could definitely happen. Though the devs have said they are developing it 100% as a ps3 exclusive and expect it to remain that way, i wouldn't be surprised if MSoft paid in full for FFXIII.

As far as we know, there have been no statements being told on blu ray and all that. Though lost odyssey did take up 4 discs and FFXIII will likely be a bigger game. Its really hard to tell. Fanboys better keep your fingers crossed:D

Darkiewonder5828d ago

yes, and they tried with MGS4 and look how that one turned out. There are some things worth trying but never will get ^^

Rick Astley5828d ago (Edited 5828d ago )

Drugs are bad. The chances of Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII going multi-platform are HIGHLY unlikely. Don't get their hopes up it's not funny lol. It's like saying MGS4 will go multi-platform. Do you really believe that Square-Enix are going to downgrade FFXIII down to DVD9 status? Come on man lol.

5828d ago
sonarus5828d ago

@Rick, if Msoft was willing to pay enough to eliminate its system selling capabilities on the playstation 3 platform in the west(since they are dead in JP anyways) i would say they could definitely downgrade FFXIII to 4 dvd-9 discs just like lost odyssey

rroded5828d ago

a decent rpg ip might b worth the coffin....

thewhoopimen5828d ago (Edited 5828d ago )

Personally I find it interesting that Square is putting that much focus on the 360. Not to flame any 360 fans here on the board, but Square's biggest market is still far and away Japan/Asia where the PS3 and Wii roost. With the well documented sales numbers of the 360 in Japan what gives? Where's the money doing this?
I can understand Mistwalker taking the plunge given that they are new to the business (I kno its all run by former square veterans, Shigeru and Uematsu)

The Japanese are an extremely proud people who support their domestic industry much like many 360 fans in the US are dyed-in-the-wool patriots who support Made in America Microsoft.

The only possible explanation is that someone besides Square/Tri-Ace/Mistwalker is funding these projects (think Microsoft of course). Personally, I think its a great strategy on the part of MS. Rather than spending millions buying up studios and then maintaining all that overhead of salaries, hard assets, expenses etc., they fund projects from major studios for exclusivity rights. I mean that would totally explain why Bungie got unloaded. It's a great short term strategy as long as Sony doesn't or Nintendo don't participate in it.

The problem with this strategy is that Sony and Nintendo probably will not sit on their butts the next time they catch wind of a new game project, so expect exclusivity right prices to heat up. Also, this really puts a negative spin in the industry as fights for titles are going to get really ugly and we the consumer will likely suffer. As Haze for the PS3 has shown, buying the exclusivity doesn't guarantee quality work. Devs can get lazy with money already in their pocket. I wonder how MS utilizing this strategy is going to maintain quality control.

deeznuts5828d ago

The lineup is:

Infinite Discovery, ID2, ID3 et al

Lew_Ijgee5828d ago

To bad "Made in America Microsoft" isn't manufactured in America.

clintos595828d ago

Its not going to happen. Square already knows they will waste money doing this because final fantasy games plays a big part in japan and the 360 is nowhere to be even mentioned in japan. If anything I think square will bring Star Ocean as an exclusive title or multiplatform to the 360 aswell, and I have a feeling kingdom hearts 3 will be on the wii. That is prolly the announcements they are going to announce at e3.

Dannagar5828d ago (Edited 5828d ago )

Back in 2005, Square Enix showed a demo on Xbox 360. Later Square Enix claimed the demo would be an MMO. In addition, at E3 2006, Square Enix stated that their would be 6 versions of Final Fantasy XIII. We know two versions are for Playstation 3 and one would be for cell phones but we don't know what system the other three versions are for. Knowing Square Enix's track record, one of those version will likely come out for DS.

We also know that Final Fantasy XIII is being built on the White Engine, which is a multi-platform engine. So, who knows what they got up their sleeves.

sonarus5828d ago

lol how are they losing money if MSoft is paying for development. FF13 won't push 360 console sales but it will push PS3 console sales. MSoft could easily drop 50mill into Square Enix lap for FFXIII to go multiplatform and maybe some exclusive DLC as well

Its unlikely though because sony owns a stake in square enix and rest assured they will do everything in their power to keep the title exclusive. It will be a huge seller in both the east and the west and Msoft knows it so they will be trying very hard to get it. Plus, didn't microsoft say something about some PS3 exclusive will be jumping on their platform.

Its not like i want it to happen but the crystal tools engine can run on the 360 according to square enix so i wouldn't be surprised if they make it happen

Dannagar5828d ago (Edited 5828d ago )

Sony's 20% ownership of Square Enix hasn't stopped Square Enix from Supporting Nintendo like a mad dog. If Sony had that much say so, they wouldn't have lost Dragon Quest 10 to the DS.

Superfragilistic5828d ago (Edited 5828d ago )

"Sony's 20% ownership of Square Enix..."

Sony currently hold, as of the end of last financial year, 8.6% of Square Enix stock, compared to Enix founder and honorary chairman Yasuhiro Fukushima 21.3%, and his private company's additional 8.8%, giving him over 30% of the company. Square founder Masafumi Miyamoto owns approximately 7.1%, whilst the remaining 54%+ majority is controlled largely by American and Japanese financial institutions.

In other words, Sony does not control Square Enix, it does have a substantial voting block but nothing to influence the day to day business operations of Square Enix as a company.

The key reason Square was largely exclusive to Sony last generation was because the PS2 dominated the console market with in excess of 100 million consoles and the merger with Enix had not yet been completed.

This generation is different with all consoles continuing to grow and appearing to split the market. Unlike ourselves, Square Enix is not a gamer but a business, and a business' motive is singularly about one thing... profit. If Square Enix believes that a multiplatform approach to some of it's previously exclusive titles will yield it greater profits then it is likely to do so and you, I and Sony could do little to prevent it.

In the event that Square Enix appears to be moving towards a multiplatform base the only option Sony may have is to make a sizable payment to retain exclusive rights. If the case arises where Square Enix goes multiplatform (I stress the word IF), Sony would be likely to pursue a timed exclusive and if successful would get essentially the same benefit of a full flung exclusive. This would be much like we saw Microsoft do to ensnare exclusive episodic content for GTAIV, and would immediately become public knowledge by virtue of shareholder transparency.

NOTE:

Final Fantasy XI was released as a timed exclusive on PS2 in 2004, with the PC and Xbox360 following over the next two years. Additionally FF1-IV are on the DS (the PSP's direct competitor).

Currently Japan is a tiny console market for the PS3 and essentially irrelevant for the 360. Japan is currently dominated by Nintendo loving, handheld doting gamers that don't spend anywhere near the amount of money on software that the burgeoning American market and expanding European market do.

The departure of designer luminary Hironobu Sakaguchi (along with composer Nobuo Uematsu) to found Mistwalker in 2004 to catch the prevailing winds hinted at this change, and with recent comments from other key Japanese developers (along with those at Square Enix), it suggests that at the very least Japanese developers are increasingly looking overseas to boost software sales and profits.

I am certainly not saying FF will go multiplatform this gen, but I am saying that Square Enix would have seriously considered it.

juuken5827d ago

Sonarus, I highly doubt FFXIII and Versus would be multi-platform.

solidt125827d ago (Edited 5827d ago )

If FF XIII was to get released on the 360 it wouldn't just be bad for the PS3 it would be bad for the entire Final Fantasy series, because it has always been a Playstation Series minus the Nintendo spin offs. The Series would lose part of what is so special about it, but I doubt it is going multi-platform.

Guitarded5827d ago

BS walks! That's some serious BS solidt12 and 360 is making serious money for publishers.

ukilnme5827d ago

@ Superfragilistic

Good post and bubble for you.

@ solidt12

I disagree. I think FF would become more special if more players embrace the series. DMC and GTA are proof of that.

It could also mean "The FIRST title for the xbox 360 in a lineup of new titles from Square-Enix."

Rick Astley5828d ago

True but some people will take this article and quickly assume that that it means Square-Enix have a lot more 360 exclusives coming, when they don't. Why? Xbox 360 is dead in Japan.

gambare5828d ago (Edited 5828d ago )

yep, that's why they want to hit the western market, but they are going multiplat there or giving exclusives to one or another.

Square has been wanting to be successful in the western market for some time now as they have stated. They were worried they may not know how to appeal to the west(360 is a western console there's no real success without it).

I know they were worried companies like Capcom would leave them behind.

The Last Remnant does not = "Completely new lineup" as PS3 fanboys are trying to make it out to be.

I bet MSFT jumped all over Square when Square was publicly seeking out help and trying to work out ways to expand their market outside Japan.

Games That Were Bad on Release, But Are Now Great

BLG writes, "Some of the most popular games have had a rough start, with some of them being downright unplayable.

Despite that, developers have managed to turn it around for them and make their game worth playing. Here are some games that had a rough start but were pretty great."

Good list..hoped to see Street Fighter 5 there..and it is.

Vits2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Sea of Thieves... I'm not disagreeing that the game has improved in terms of content. But I feel that the most significant change between now and its release is actually the public perception. Nowadays, most people are aware that the game is a multiplayer PvP-focused experience first and foremost, and not "Black Flag made by Rare". Consequently, people dismissing the whole experience because the single-player aspect is lacking or the story is plain are much less common.

darthv722d ago

Several years ago, i submitted an idea to Rare that would change up the mechanics of battling opponents in the game. whereby if you died in battle, you turned into a skeleton warrior and had to fight your way back to the land of the living. It was an interesting twist on respawning and would allow the player to experience both sides of a battle.

I keep hoping to see something like that get added to the game.

It's sad that this quick retort is more often than not true... The industry's acceptance of release and patch has gone too far.

Days gone! By the end of the game I couldn't drop it down! I went around so many hours killing zombies! It was addictive by the end.

That game was just plain good game. It didnt improve, it was just good.

I don't know, I got it abit late, and struggled for a few days, and then all of a sudden it just got good!!
