Inexcusable: Spiderman 3's Graphics for Wii

GameNation express their horror at the graphics of Spiderman 3 on the Wii:

"Upon looking through IGN's review section, I came across the newly developed Wii game, Spiderman 3. Alas, it received a 5.4/10, which is not good at all. I then proceeded to look at the screen shots for the game, and was stricken by how bad the graphics looked."

"Lazy game developers" are one thing, but poor reviews another. The next-gen version of Spiderman deserves a better score. Atleast, in the range of 7.8 and 8.1 :)

Spiderman 3 is a rental only game for all 3 consoles.

That right there is the pinnacle of lazy game developers. Those buildings looked like they came straight out of Superman 64(maybe worse!). I'm not trashing Wii, just the developers, because this is inexcusable, especially knowing for a fact that the Wii is much more powerful than the PS2.

No I think they made all the models of the buildings for the three consoles. Then sent the 360/p3 models to the texture dept while shipped the wii version.

This has nothing to do with the Wii but the lazy bastards who call them self developers, its really annoying they charge money for something they didnt even put effort in.

PS2 in the year 200/4/5/6 got some pretty good looking games.....for a PS2, GCN was stronger but wasnt supported by the devs and the Wii is far more stronger then the PS2 and according to some developers a couple times more stronger then the GCN and xbox1.
so its not the Wii that sucks its the DEVELOPERS.......

Totally unacceptable, one for Nintendo to release this game knowing how bad the presentation of the title looks ( especially that the Spiderman series is a big franchise ). Two for the game developers, they should all be sued for making such an inexcusably unfinished game, what a bunch of bludgers - all of them, they should have known better.

This is pretty horrible how game developers have fallen so far. There is potential with a game, and the developers make it what it is. And you can plainly see when effort is put into a game, and this is dDEFINATELY not an example of effort. I mean, graphics aren't everything, but with proper techniques from game devs, things can look really GGGGGREAT!, or not.....this is definately a disgrace to creation.

I can't believe they released this game looking like this.....yeah the visuals on the 360 and PS3 aren't great, but these are just disgraceful, maybe these are just early build captures if not I'm not going to blame the Wii itself, but Nintendo and the dev's shouldn't have released a game that looks this un-finished.

I just played the PS3(on loan from a friend) and Wii ver and both have craptastic framerates?!

From what I can tell the Wii game looks a bit better then those pics.

I expected better with the PS3, but the graphics look really drab and the city looks lifeless.

After 3 hrs...I'm taking the games back to the rental store.

Unfortunately, I own a Wii, and bought this game for it yesterday.

I have since returned the game, and since I'm good with the manager, got a full refund, which allowed me to purchase "From Russia With Love", "Silent Hill 3", "Legend of Kai", and "Silent Hill 3". I think I got the better end of the bargain.

This game was pathetic, no matter what system it is played on. The movie was just as bad. >.>

Activision said something earlier this week about the PS3 and Wii versions suffering because the memory wasn't versatile enough to do what they wished with the game.

I picked up the PS3 version and I want to know if the game is even finished? LOL! You know, I try to force myself to master the controls and environments with every game, but this game has lasted me about 10 minutes until I said 'enough is enough.' I don't know if they had to rush this game to coincide with the movie release, but out of all three Spiderman games, this one is the worst. The web slinging is not enjoyable at all. I feel sorry for anyone that purchases the Wii version. The city in the Wii version looks like a bunch of blocks stacked next to eachother. Oh well, maybe Spiderman 8 will be better. LOL.

We all know Wii is capable of better graphics than this, but it does highlight apoint I've been making for awhile.

Sure the Wii is cute now, motion control, wow, but how long can it last on this gimmick?

Over the next 2 years we are going to get games like Mass Effect, Alan Wake, Uncharted, Heavy Rain, MGS4 and so on and so on. Graphical tour de forces.

yeah movie games suck, the developers suck, but it doesn't change that the wii version was far below the quality of the other 2 versions. 5.7 isn't far from a 6, but guess what, its still the lower of an already bad score.

I couldn't disagree more. Let's face it, none of the 3 systems have the graphics we expect for this game.

The difference is that on the Wii, all I needed were passable graphics. When I'm swinging through the city, I don't look at textures. When I'm web rodeoing bod guys, I don't look at the character models.

The Wii version is still fun.

If you are only interested in graphics, this would be a perfect game to criticize. The graphics are bad.

But if you wanted to criticize the Wii's philosophy, you'll have to find another game. I enjoy this game, but if I had it for the 360 or the PS3 I'd be so disappointed.

My point is, this game shows that a horrible game on the PS3 or the 360 is still fun on the Wii.

OK, the textures drop off at distance & altitude; there are half bridges at the edge of Spidey's "fishbowl"; & simple objects are noticably replaced by complex models as they're approached. No, the graphics aren't what you'd expect to see if you were actually Spiderman swinging through the streets of NYC, but this is a videogame. Yes, a videogame. Not a movie. Not reality. A videogame.

Honestly, the only thing Xbox 360 & PS3 have done is skew expectations on what a game should be, which is 1st & foremost fun. That's right, remember fun? No, I'm not twelve shades of crazy. Pretty is good to look at from across the room, but when you find out pretty's got an IQ of 10 you're chewing your arm off to get away just as quickly as the Sunday morning you wake up, room spinning, next to queen muffin top [Sends chills down my spine just thinking about it.]

No, the Wii version of Spiderman isn't as pretty as the Xbox 360/PS3 version. But if you're standing still long enough to notice the textures fading in you're not playing the game anyway which means even subpar graphics are wasted on you. Spiderman for the Wii is about the double-handed web slinging & it's got that nailed down fairly well, although there are some frame rate issues that would irk me a bit more if I wasn't playing the best incarnation of Spiderman to date.

Hopefully enough of us will buy Spiderman for the Wii that Activision will be encouraged to dress the engine up for Spidey's next appearance.
