Nintendo Iwata: We Won't Compete Online

Sure, the company isn't really going to bother to much with any more Wii peripherals (hello, third parties); and certainly, the Wii Motion Plus (which makes the Wii Remote do what developers thought it could do to start with) hasn't been priced for retail - but "we can make it very affordable"; cripes, even the DS could take on mobile phone-like capabilities. Aside from all that, Nintendo is not going to compete with either Sony or Microsoft in a plethora of online services. Ninty is, after all, "still an entertainment company first and foremost".

ewwww

kindi_boy5751d ago

he should have said we "CAN'T"

JsonHenry5751d ago

Then you will FAIL OFFLINE.

MazzingerZ5751d ago

Of course they WON'T even if they COULD...the wii is selling like pancakes, why to spend money on that?

Gangsta Krizzab5751d ago

This is going to hit them hard in the future.

ChickeyCantor5751d ago

Although this does not mean they wont try and make something out of it....i'm still gonna say it.
Damn you Iwata >=(.

madjedi5751d ago

So does this mean nintendo isn't going to allow wii users buy/tv episodes and movies or that online gaming will not be one of nintendos priorities he is far to vague.

taken from the article
"In terms of online services, Iwata actually tells Yukari Iwatani Kane at the WSJ, "If we can do something different that plays up our strengths - and broadens what a videogame constitutes then we might do it." "

Okay exactly how many kinds of online services are there, i think between the ps3 and 360's online features just about everything is covered.

Now the last part about broadening what a videogame constitutes sounds odd, best i can guess either he is talking about creating new genres. Or he is refering to making more dumbed down, no purpose everyone wins games like wii music.

ChickeyCantor5751d ago (Edited 5751d ago )

If the other 2 are covering everything i really do not see the point of people bashing Nintendo's online service.
Why complain if 2 companies are already doing.
Nintendo does allot in a different way so we will never know what they will do.

What they meant with the last part, well we will see about that.

In terms of online services, Iwata actually tells Yukari Iwatani Kane at the WSJ, "If we can do something different that plays up our strengths - and broadens what a videogame constitutes - then we might do it. If we have no ideas, we're not going to compete with the exact same services against companies like Sony, which has a movie studio, and Microsoft, which has a lot of money."

mcgrawgamer5751d ago

trying to compete head on is what put them in 3rd place to begin with. prior to this generation that is.

jeffaustin905751d ago

mcgrawgamer, I agree. They were getting their butts kicked by trying to be a conventional gaming system (Gamecube) so they decided to see what else they could do with video gaming, something else that Sony and Microsoft weren't doing at the time. And you know what? It worked. They've become very profitable because of the Wii, and they've stood out from the pack as something new and different.

I think that with next generation, there will be even more of a difference between the Big 3 consoles. Sony will cater to the hardcore-of-hardcore fans, Nintendo will become strictly a fun machine for friends and family, and Microsoft will offer the best of both worlds.

thebudgetgamer5751d ago

we might have to change the phrase selling like hotcakes to selling like wiis

wiizy5751d ago

they dont need to just provide new online services that the competion does not have ... and you keep winning

Zelda Replay: Majora's Mask

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "Is Ocarina of Time as legendary as I remembered it? For the most part, yes. In spite of a handful of missteps — a few obtuse puzzles, some tedious backtracking, and a clunky stealth sequence — I don't believe the last 23 years have been unkind to it. Ocarina remains a brilliant example of the medium, a landmark game that shaped the future of its own franchise and 3D gaming in general. After more than two decades it retains its inventive dungeon design, challenging puzzles, dynamic combat, wistful storyline, unforgettable music, and empowering open-air freedom. I feel confident calling it one of the greatest games of the fifth generation, even if I'm no longer prepared to list it among the five best games ever made."

Pure unadulterated fun. They don't make them like this anymore...especially not the triple A industry.

Back when video rental was a thing, I rented out Majoria's Mask, I never finished it though. I did buy the 3DS version before the eshop shutdown, so maybe one day I'll finally play through the whole thing, it's amazing how well these games hold up though. I briefly played Ocarina of Time for a while and it was really fun.

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos9d ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto9d ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).

ChasterMies8d ago

Trevor in GTA 6 is a sadist and psychopath who dabbles in cannibalism. Should be top of the list. These game “news” sites should hire people that know games.

Strange headline, as I thought the star of the show was Super RType. I almost bought RType Dimensions EX this last month and was just thinking, man I wish we had the SNES one somewhere on Switch. That's where I got my start w the series and I was beyond excited to see it drop this week!
