European Wii price cut hitting this May?

According to a source close to Nintendo France the company is planning a Nintendo Wii price cut in Europe, plus the introduction of new bundles and colors. This price cut should go in affect sometime in May and it should put the Nintendo Wii Sports pack at a new retail price of €149,99 compared to the previous €249,99. According to the source Nintendo is also planning a Mario Kart Wii bundle, which should cost €199,99. Last but not least, Nintendo is planning to release a third bundle which would include a Nintendo Wii console including two controllers and two games. No official response from Nintendo yet.

Battling with the wii on their terms is a mistake. If msoft thinks they can capture the casual market by releasing the arcade and adding a wii mote to it, then they only waste their time.

They are better off with operating on the argument that wii isn't really a gamers console and only a fad and hopefully consumers will move on

They can't keep them in stock now! What's a price cut going to do.

Now the Wii would really tear up the competition.

Yi-Long5887d ago

... but tbh they arent really in competition with the PS3 and 360, as they seem to be bought by a completely new audience.

The 'hardcore' gamer, so to speak, will still be investing in a 360 and/or PS3, and that's where the money is being made.
The Wii only has a handfull of really good games (and I WILL end up buying a Wii to play those games, some day), but it's not enough to really convince gamers to choose a Wii over a 360 or a PS3.

A Wii, for many gamers, is a nice 'extra', next to their PS3 and/or 360.
For casual people with kids, or old folks, or gadget freaks, the Wii does appeal, but that audience doesnt really go out and buy 10-20+ games for their system.

I just don't understand these companies (Nintendo and MS) that makes a price cut and cry out supply shortage at the same time. Most responsible companies only commit to a price cut in the face of excess supply.

Are you saying Nintendo ain't making much money from the Wii? I bet they're laughing all the way to bank!!

Yi-long,
you know not all people pick one console, so they wont be picking a wii over a 360/PS3.....they will pick a wii after or before they buy a Ps3 or/and 360.

not every gamer is a one sided fool =D

... I havent seen a Wii for sale in a Dutch store for over 6 months now. They're always sold out, and the ones they do get in, are reserved.

Second of all, I aint interested in a Mario Kart Bundle. I would much much rather have a Mario Galaxy bundle, which is a great game for someone who has no friends (read: me), as opposed to Wii Sports or Mario Kart, which is only fun with friends.

Anyway, any news about any pricedrop or bundle means very little to me, since they arent sold anywhere here in Holland.

Spydr075886d ago

You have no friends? But...but...me love Yi-Long time!

Ok, poor joke...

KeiZka5886d ago

Then they should perhaps ship some from Finland to there, then. Finns seem to stick to their PCs rather than to their consoles... Woe upon them? Nahh.

Baliw5886d ago

The Wii moment is already fading off. Its time to squeeze the average user without a Wii.
150€ is like woah! gonna buy one to let it root after third week.

At this price Nintendo is luring non gamers into buy one and test it even if they never used a console before.

hotrider125886d ago

if Wii going to be 150.00 in europe cant wait til it comes to america for same 150.00 I'll buy a Wii then. yes Im a casuel gamer never been a hardcore game. I do play my friend ps3 from time to time
playing a game that allow you to blow someone body apart spreading blood all over the screen is not appealing to old school gamers thats why there is a balance of casuel and hardcore gamers. you'll never get casuel gamers to convert to hardcore and you'll never get hardcore gamers to convert to casuel gaming its like duh!!!!!

Zelda Replay: Majora's Mask

VGChartz's Evan Norris: "Is Ocarina of Time as legendary as I remembered it? For the most part, yes. In spite of a handful of missteps — a few obtuse puzzles, some tedious backtracking, and a clunky stealth sequence — I don't believe the last 23 years have been unkind to it. Ocarina remains a brilliant example of the medium, a landmark game that shaped the future of its own franchise and 3D gaming in general. After more than two decades it retains its inventive dungeon design, challenging puzzles, dynamic combat, wistful storyline, unforgettable music, and empowering open-air freedom. I feel confident calling it one of the greatest games of the fifth generation, even if I'm no longer prepared to list it among the five best games ever made."

Pure unadulterated fun. They don't make them like this anymore...especially not the triple A industry.

Back when video rental was a thing, I rented out Majoria's Mask, I never finished it though. I did buy the 3DS version before the eshop shutdown, so maybe one day I'll finally play through the whole thing, it's amazing how well these games hold up though. I briefly played Ocarina of Time for a while and it was really fun.
