As someone who recently got a 4K/HDR TV this is, in fact, exactly what I want.
1440p should upscale quite well so this is good news especially since its a "smaller" title so nice to see it getting Pro support

Albert Penello said they'll look into doing it but they don't know how Sony is doing it yet. Admittedly, it does seem a little odd since the HDMI requirement but we'll see

These companies care more about the bottom line than they do for us costumers not speaking about individual execs because guys like Shu etc. are brilliant guys but there's never any guarantee they won't nickel and dime us next time as you say

Yeah overall as an announcement it was worse, the article instead focuses on the messaging and the reaction.
Using buzzwords such as "4K" when it doesn't even have a 4K bluray and the footage they showed off had no mention of the exact resolution, no word on framerate improvements etc. just bad overall messaging for the Slim and Pro
Xbox One S upscales all games to 4K using an upscaler in the console but I wasn't sure since I don't think PS4 has that feature... Open to everyone if anyone knows the answer btw, coming from technical curiosity
Yeah having the GPU power certainly helps, I'm more interested in the new CPU technology and memory bandwidth, sounds very promising.
