Ray tracing is no where NEAR the "Same thing" as what current GPUs do. Not even close.
The methods used in current games are a cheap "hack" compared to what ray tracing allows.

yeah, but seriously, can you imagine how long it would take to design some of the last few levels? Beta testing with the portal guns MUST have been a HUGE headache :) Think of all the things you have to account for that the player could try.
AND you can play them again with the different challenges to further increase play time. :)

You might want to see about getting half-life 1 (and opposing force, it's incredible) for the full story though.
Even today half-life 1 is still worth playing. The encounters with the military still hold up to today's standards in ai.
There is NOTHING in Halo 3 single player that can even begin to touch Half-Life 2.
Many months ago they mentioned publicly some ideas about a group like feature. Like if you are into the 360 you join the 360 group and only see their comments or something like that. Or the PS3 group or a PSwii60 group :)
I've been praying for that feature ever since they mentioned it.
