you should play the previous game (Yakuza 2 recommended) to know what to expect from this game.
Yakuza 3 is a jprg with brawler aspect, that is why you got to read so many text. And the environment is always like that, it's not GTA type game.
And to be honest, being "last gen" doesn't means a bad thing. I still enjoy many "last gen" games (mainly jrpg) over the "next gen" games...
I'm afraid Yakuza 3 is not AAA title, because in N4G, AAA title is a game with metacritic average scores around 90+.
Based on previous Yakuza games, the average scores on metacritic were around 70-80, so I think Yakuza 3 will get the same average score.
Yakuza series were great and fun, but sadly they were underrated and underappreciated..
Yakuza genre is very different with GTA.
Yakuza is a JRPG, with modern Tokyo setting, with a fun fighting system, plenty of mini games and side quests.
Anyone who expect this game to be played simmiliar with GTA will be dissappointed (run around killing people, stealing a car).

Actually, most people play video games at default difficulty (normal), so nothing wrong based review on that difficulty.
People play video games because it's fun. They are still gamers regardless of the difficulty, normal or harder, as long it's fun.
