I would think its very very obvious why hardware sales have collapsed. Why would anyone need to buy a physical machine when its not at all required to play Xbox games? Theres PC gamepass and apparently GamePass plays on Smart TVs now? Theres just no reason to buy a console to run the games.

Live service, when done right can be an excellent revenue stream for them and fund single player games for years to come. Nothing wrong with dabbling in Live service, its far from this evil monster everyone attacks them for. Genshin Impact? Fortnite? Some of the most praised and beloved titles in gaming history, generating near infinite cash flow. Have to throw as much at the dart board as you can to get a winning one though, it is very much a numbers game.

Xbox is down because absolutely nobody needs an Xbox to play Xbox games with the large push into GP.
There really is no reason at all for MS to continue to pump out hardware when they want everyone and their dog subscribed to GP, so just do what MS does and force it.
