They didn't make the move because they liked hd-dvd, they did it for the money. Right after the 16 months expect them to promote blu-ray like crazy. They simply did it for the payout to the losing format.
If hd-dvd loses, Paramount got their money's worth from them. And its not like paramount's move to support hd-dvd hurts blu-ray massively. Transformers didn't even make a scratch.
