You might want to look up how GOYT awards generally work, because as a matter fact every publication do limit it to one region, and list games that came out that year.
Look at a game that released in 2010 in Japan, and later got released in Europe in 2011. The game got a lot of praise in Europe when it released, are you saying the game should have been ignored by the European media because it was released in Japan last year? What about when the game got a new surge of praise ...

That's still factually wrong, Sony had (admittedly poorly utilized) version of off screen play with the PS3 and PSP,
Further more the first thing that was shown for the Vita was off screen play January 27, 2011, five months before Nintendo even announced the Wii U.

Though if your still unsure you might what to get Yakuza 4 first, it cheaper, will give a good idea if like what the franchise has to offer, an comes with a comprehensive recap of three games before it allowing you to have the full storying going into 5.

You can actually already see there take on turn based RPGs, From software made a JRPG called Enchanted Arms for the 360 and PS3.
It's always a shame to see a team that make such good games never get the recognition they deserve. The team behind BD definitely deserves for recognition for this game and the other series they make.
A solid release date for Yakuza 5 is probably the most realistic thing I'm hoping for, and the most unrealistic being announcements to localize Yakuza 0.
Every mainline title is it's own self contained story, so you should have no problem if this is your first disgaea game.

I remember reading an interview with some one who worked on the series since the beginning, and according to him, when they named the series they wanted something that sounded anti-earth, so they came up with Dis using american slang and Gaia, the greek word for earth.
