GameSpot has given COD4 a 9.0, BioShock a 9.0, Ratchet and Clank a 7.5, Uncharted an 8.0, Zelda: Twilight Princess 8.9 and now Mas Effect an 8.5. By GameSpot's standards, it is a pretty good score and Mass Effect is a pretty excellent game.
As great as it might seem to PS3 fans that the PS3 is on par with the 360's year one sales, the truth of the matter is that the PS3 is playing catch up. To just be on par with what the 360 was a year ago means that the 360 still has a whole year of sales that the PS3 didn't manage to catch up to in year one.
Can't wait for this game. Tomorrow I know Teamxbox and probably all the other sites are posting their reviews up, so I'm excited to see what they all think of it.
What is even cooler is that this is already a planned trilogy, so we don't have to question whether or not we'll get another ME in the future :)

Shooter fans probably aren't going to love Mass Effect as much as RPG fans...obviously...because ME is an RPG.
It is like saying RPG fans will be climbing up the walls while playing Halo 3, lol.

Weren't we hearing these rumors for the last few months and they were all shot down? What makes this different?
Pretty good from GameSpot considering they also gave BioShock a 9.0 out of 10. But GameSpot gave Halo 3 a 9.5/10 so I expected COD4 to be slightly higher than a 9.0.
Studios are going to eventually back the format that has the larger install base. By having an HD-DVD player for under $100, a lot of consumers are now going to go out and buy it over a Blu-Ray player. Thus, more people will own HD-DVD players and will buy more HD-DVDs and studios will want in on this and support HD-DVD over Blu-Ray.
On top of this, at most stores the HD-DVD movies are cheaper than Blu-Ray movies, which'll encourage more people to get HD-DVD.
It doesn't matter that they are losing money. People who buy the players are going to be buying HD-DVDs.
If no one has the players, no HD-DVDs are sold and Blu-Ray wins.
This is what it'll take for Hd-DVD to win, so they need to do it.
these results are for the # of consoles sold in places other than America and Japan. Which, in this case, the 360 has already been lagging in sales.
This is the point I keep trying to make. The only exclusive AAA game for the Wii so far is Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. The Wii only has 7 games above 80% on Gamerankings...it is pathetic.
The console is cheap and fun to use, though, so people will buy it and continue to buy it even if it doesn't have the best games.
More reviewers need to be like 1up. If a game sucks, 1up will give it a 1/10, whereas most others sites will give bad games a 5/10. With anything below an 8/10 being considered unfavorable, there is such little space for scores to go on most sites.
Um...its average score on Gamerankings.com is a 81%. Just because 1up gives it a 6.5 doesn't mean it is a flop, lol. Here are reviews from other big reviewers:

Don't forget though that the PS3 is playing catch-up to the Xbox 360.
It doesn't matter if they are aligned when 360 has a whole year of sales on the PS3.

The real score is the 9.75. Which is also what they gave Halo 3.
Xbox 360 only has a few more big exclusives coming out this Holiday - PGR4, Ace Combat 6, and Mass Effect.
BUT. Unlike the PS3, Xbox 360 already has a bunch of AAA titles to attract people to buying the console. Halo 3, BioShock, and Gears of War are definitely going to be purchases for a lot of new 360 buyers.
Plus the 360 is getting a slew of great multiplatform titles like Assassin's Creed, COD4, Rock Band, and Guitar Hero III.
