Game's kind of bleh. Sad, but true.

I disagree; voice actors are paid a fair wage for what is comparatively little work compared to game developers who work exhaustive hours doing exhaustive work. Video games will suffer should this all come to pass , either by having to hike up their asking prices to cover this new cost, or by turning to lesser skilled voice actors to lower the bottom line.

You are quite incorrect. Anything below five means it's below average to a downwards sliding degree. What's the point in having a ten-point scale and then only using 10-7 like you suggest? You also might want to read the words above the arbitrary score rather than just knee-jerk raging at a review system you don't give credence to but care just enough to rant over.

For me, Amid the Ruins is the part where all the shortcuts taken throughout Season 2 really start to hit home. Thus far, Telltale’s been able to sidestep the issues of not developing their cast and seems to me to just assume that because we’ve known some of the characters a while now, that’s enough to ensure we care about them. The entire episode feels lazy like this, presenting emotional moments that the in game cast don’t care about, so why should the player? It’s also the first time tha...

Yeah, the game's still pretty brilliant. I own the same 2-disc PS2 copy, but still purchased SH: Collections on impulse just to play it again. Held up well.

I'm willing to give it a go, simply because the last three staple entries in the series (The Room, Homecoming and Downpour) have been awful, so the premesis might be stale. A completly new direction might work wonders for the series.

10/10 is the highest score, it in no way denotes a perfect game. Even with that aside, people need to learn to stop putting all their faith in the meaningless little numbers at the end of the body of text, and start putting more faith in the body of text above the meaningless little numbers.

I hated the game, as in, really, really hated it. But the soundtrack was fantastic. Aside from that god-awful battle theme where it sounded like a gang of cats was being slowly raped.

Yes, that's my bad. The site posted a new review for this game, but I linked in the older version. I blame sleepy weekends.

Agreed. Every few months I try to find new news on the reportedly episodic sequel to Dreamfall. If they let the series end like it did, then Dreamfall would have been better off not existing -- which would be a huge shame.

Eh, I really did enjoy the first more. Would score that a 9, and DS2 a 7.

I’d argue that it would be stupid to stick your head in the sand and pretend you’re enjoying something based on obsolete standards when, really, you’re not. It’s a fact that some media -- be it music, film or games, -- age poorly. To ignore that fact and award the game pity points because it was more impact in yesteryear may make the writer feel better, but it’s deceiving his audience.

Some games stand the test of time. X-Com was made in 1993 and is still today probabl...

What would the point be in reviewing a game on obsolete merits? None of us are likely to fall into a time/space tear that throws us back 20 years and wipes our memories of the advancements the media has made in the meanwhile. If playing a game now is painful, then because it wasn't X amount of years ago should be used as a crutch for its shortcomings. That's why reviews are date stamped.

Pacman is a great example because Namco knew it was outdated so brought it b...

I've played as many, if not more, and while I would have given SH1 a ten a year ago, it would scrape an 8 after last month's reply; the game has aged heart-breakingly poorly. SH2 shifts its focus, but does not have the power of the original because the focus is somewhat broken; you're not walking into a unexplained word. Things make some sense now and this corrodes the effect.

I'm happy to agree to disagree on this. A 6/10 score is above average which SH3...

I'd disagree with that. I'd argue that this review shows a great authority of the genre. I liked Silent Hill 3, but it was the middle game between the series at its peak (1 & 2) and its self destruction (4 especially and Homecoming).

Heather was easily the best protaganist of the series, but the rest of the game simply did not get into your head like the two before it.

All Silent Hill soundtracks are worthy of complete praise. That they dro...

Molyneux wouldn't be Molyneux is he didn't get more excited than a four year old with a new toy and start spewing ridiculous hyperbole. I'd not have it any other way.

That's rubbish. The game has a full priced retail release and should be judged as such. It shouldn't need babying in the manner you suggest. If it does, then it shouldn't be released until it's in a fit state to be judged.

I'd disagree: I don't think there's anything about the game aside from perhaps the soundtrack that lifts it above average. 4/10 sounds like a suitable 'below average' score.

Playing through Director's Cut was very disappointing for me. I'd hoped that the trip back to PC taking over a year would mean a lot of things have been fixed, but, frankly, despite the time taken, the game doesn't feel finished. The audio is off, scenes end prematurely and the game talks down to you, assuming you'll get stuck at every step and waiting for you with a hint book and a cup of marshmallow-filled hot chocolate.

I got the DS version on release, an...
