because why make unique gameplay and style when you can skin a generic first person shooter.

also I will laugh wholeheartedly when they inevitably announce multiplayer that mirrors call of duty with xp popping up in the middle of the screen when you kill someone.

valve has done more between half life 2 and (inevitably) half life 3 than they ever did between HL1 and HL2.

you know computers have been HD (PR BUZZWORD AHOY) since the dawn of the 21st century.
you also complain about the price of things, PC hardware is affordable over time (price degrades very quickly), whilst Nintendo and Sony still think it's acceptable to charge full whack for a portable game whilst Steam and Apple laugh all the way to the bank with profitable but cheap games.

wanna watch a film with friends? leave your basement.
voice command? you can have voice command for your whole PC.
Movies? Lovefilm/Netflix/Hulu is cheaper.

it's a crime for these companies to keep your so called valuable information insecure.
the fact that a few people could hack into a company who rakes in hundreds of millions every year but cba investing in safe measures to look after their customers data is a crime in itself.
