PlayStation has always been a division within Sony and not a company. The argument goes that as a single product, PlayStation as an individual company wouldn't be all that exciting. But if spun off today, PlayStation is now much more than just a console which gives you a glimpse at where Sony is taking things with it and what all you can get from the brand. Sometimes it's easy to be in middle of it all and miss the bigger picture.

Thanks much for reading! Yea, it's quite interesting that we take a lot of things like naming or even box design for granted but from a companies perspective, so much thought and time (when done properly) can go into it.

You'll see that I'm completely with you on that, however many large sites including Forbes (who called it a botched launch) have been taking the game to town when they clearly played an unfinished version which is the part of the point of the article.

They just released one for VR with GameStop publishing it.

Would love to see it on next-gen (now this gen) consoles.

I completely agree that for consumers, it's early. However it's a near guarantee that Sony is already looking at what's next. Doesn't mean they have specifics in mind but they are looking at technology trends, consumer interest, etc. to begin crafting a vision of where they might want to go. A big part of that is done through services like PSN which transition from one console to the next so even if they aren't ready to fully commit to what PS5 will, they are establishing ...

I think we'll see this more and more as young, talented film makers come. Hopefully this will also eventually translate into 'video game' adaptations that are worthy since these guys/gals will have grown up with the material and have a better sense of the gaming medium.

It's not looking like that kind of event but I really hope it doesn't turn into an event to announce when we can expect more info. For once, I hope Square lays out everything they more or less have for us, share whatever else they want at E3 and have it be out by fall.

It's rather unfortunate. As if the only way I as a PS gamer can have enjoyment is by having something taken away from an Xbox gamer and wise versa. But seeing how this isn't even a situation like Tomb Raider where PS4 gamers need to wait longer, it's not as if he's holding something over PS4 or Xbox gamers. He's simply stating a game on a competing console looks great.

Couldn't agree more. I'm ok with people better than me killing me but not in the first 10 seconds from half way across the map.

One thing you have to understand is that when a company like Sony makes a strategic decision, it's not about today but tomorrow. To my point, how many people do you know who stream movies today versus 5 years ago and versus 10 years ago? Same thing, now project streaming 5 years into the future.

I'm sure there are people like yourself who use Gamefly or Redbox but with each year, that number diminishes as broadband penetration and speeds increase while compression te...

Not suggesting that at all. No where was it mentioned that somehow those game devs would be shuttered. What I'm instead talking about is how the future of the PlayStation will be developed. Much in the same way that during the PSone, PS2, or PS3 era, it's not as if Western devs were somehow shunned. But they were also not part of the consoles development either. Now the pendulum is swinging the other way.

I don't think exclusive streaming will be here in 2 years time but people once thought the same thing about movie streaming right? No way Blockbuster would go away and yet today, I can stream a 4K HDR show. Streaming is the future and it's all about building the roadblocks to it. Services like PS Now and PS Vue are that foundation and long term investment, both which have came from the US.

I don't disagree with that. I didn't want to go deep down that rabbit whole (I did and deleted) because quality will truly be determined by developers. There is nothing we've seen that points to Rift having problems so assuming all is correct with their hardware and dev kits, it's purely fact that Rift is a higher-end device. That doesn't make PS VR any less stellar. It's a fact that on its own means nothing. A talented developer can create something compelling on eith...

VR is most certainly hard to show off. But in this case, it wasn't that they had difficulty showing off the tech, but that something clearly failed in the demo. Be it the Move controller, the game etc. Which is ok. Tech fails, it's a simple fact. But that they didn't have a backup to go to is my problem with it. For me, none of my issues were with the content of PSX. That's a completely different article and very subjective depending on a persons taste. However, how something ...

I think you miss the point of the article a bit. The idea is that if Sony wants to be a leading platform, they need to step up their game and how they present material. None of this 'bashing' Sony and instead designed to start a conversation on how they can better PS4 and the experience around it.

Yea, the piece is really more about PlayStation infrastructure and presentation skills and less about what they really showed off at PSX.

Had similar issues and deleting the app and downloading it over again fixed the PSN login issue for me as well.
