i think they just wanted to do something different. the far cry 3 mechanics are there, but the aesthetics are new. if it was more of far cry 3 single player, then why wasn't that simply part of the game to begin with. this add on content is refreshing imo.
besides, far cry 4 is being fast tracked ever since the success of 3, so that's where people will get more of their present day "classic" far cry experience.
