It's not about having 3rd party games. It's about having the 3rd party games that people want to play.
People need to look beyond the initial cost fo the memory cards. Yes, they're a bit pricey, but the games are so damn cheap. You save more money on inexpensive games that it practically pays for the memory card. And if you have PS+ then that will make up the difference. Vita has the games which put it over the top and it's vastly superior to the 3DS, which is a wannabe handheld, but since it's Nintendo everyone loves it (though I don't know why). The only competition is Switch...
This sticks on the Vita are so much better than the PSP that it makes a big difference for me. I love my PSP, but the Vita can play PSP games in a better way since you can map a number of functions to the right stick. It makes it so it plays PSP games better than a PSP.
And the irony is that the one game I think today's generation will be nostalgic for, is actually a nostalgic throwback for the older generation. It's like my kid really loves Steamworld Dig, which is a nostalgic throwback to the 2D platformers from the 80's. So what is around today that is unique to draw nostalgia?
Here's my bold prediction: the children of today will have nostalgia for none of the video games they're playing (with the possible exception to Minecraft). Games today are so plentiful and abundant that there's nothing to really sink your teeth into. Games like Mario or Zelda were staples of the 80's because back then kids only had but a handful of games to play. Now, you can get a new game for free at the touch of a button. I think that with the exception of Minecraft, today...
I think it's going to be something more along the lines of being able to watch NCAA games on PS Vue. Though it would be awesome for Sony to have a football game franchise.
VR doesn't need Nintendo. VR needs a price cut.
For the first time ever... Pachter actually makes sense. Pre-orders were not a big thing when either the Xbox or Xbox 360 came out. People were still waiting in lines outside of stores for those launches. So the only thing Xbox 1x is competing with is the Xbox 1 I guess. I'm not sure how well those did. Sony had all the hype at the launch and Xboxs were readily available everywhere.
The fact that I even think Pachter might be right is making my brain hurt.
I want a game where I can bring Tebow back.
I think I almost agree with you except that I enjoyed Golden Abyss a lot more. I'd put it right after the original. My only complaint with the game was that Drake and Chase had zero chemistry. She was a really poor character.
They're all great games but I think Golden Abyss gets a lot more crap than it deserves, UC4 gets a lot more praise than it deserves, and UC3 is a great game that has a story that loses focus a lot.
I'm not sure how I would rank them but if I had to I'd say:
Uncharted 2
Uncharted
Uncharted Golden Abyss
Uncharted 3
Uncharted 4
I will, and I appreciate the attention to detail that Naughty Dog delivers. But for Kotaku to publish an article about "a ridiculous little detail" for something so common/mundane should be beneath them. Then again they did publish a review for a solar elipse... I guess I just don't know what to expect from them anymore.
It's easiest just to email them or tweet them out.
This is one of the dumbest gaming articles I've ever read. Kirk wastes his time to say that the in-game map is the same as the actual map. Must be a slow news day to waste this much time on something like this.
I wonder if this list is as inaccurate as the "Six remaining PS4 Exclusives for 2017" article I just read.
It's fine to disagree with me disagreeing. Which statement in this article do you agree with? All of them?
I disagree.
To elaborate would be a waste of my time. This article is pointless.
I don't think it sold better than expected, considering all the marketing muscle Sony put behind it. The price dropped rappidly all the bad press really hurt it. I actually really enjoyed it, and also enjoyed the fact the price dropped rapidly as I was able to pick it up for $20 not long after launch.
Rumble sucks in general. It's one of those gimmicks that has never added anything to any game I've seen it in, and it's more of a distraction than anything else.
I think it all comes down to Sony's obsession with thwarting piracy. Hacking a PSP was so common that Sony was determined that the same wouldn't happen with the Vita. If they had taken half the effort they've put into stopping piracy and put it into making games, the system would have a library comparable to none.
