Microsoft and EA are both way into the 'keep shoving it down the consumers throat until it normalizes' model.

Microsoft + EA = Xbone U.

The PS4 is fully HSA compliant and has GCN 2.0 graphics. It will literally have cutting edge technology when it debuts.

The PS4 being based on an x86 HSA APUs means it's replacements, if based on a future x86 HSA APU, will be far easier and less expensive to develop and will have built in backward hardware compatibility ... and all the programming expertise developed by the devs should be directly applicable.

Charlie D on Semi-Accurate posted a while back he's talked to a number of devs and without exception they were VERY happy with the PS4 and far less happy developing for the Xbox One. This has since been backed up by a number of articles from various sources.

Mark Cerny's 1-2 months 'time to triangle' for the PS4 appears to be highly credible.

Hence the above article is almost certainly referring mainly to the Xbox One and not the PS4.

I see Mark Cerney recently said the average time to port an Indie PC title to PS4 is one month ... plus being able to self publish ... that's a recipe for a hella lot of Indie games available for the PS4 at launch.

Meanwhile, at Microsoft, the bean counters continue to pour sand in the gears.

Nintendo is effectively dead in the console space. The PS4 and Xbox One will inherently have full hardware backward compatibility with future consoles. By the time Nintendo gets it's hardware act together Sony and Microsoft will so totally own the console space there will be no space left for Nintendo, even if they were actually competent on their next try.

Except all the parents will be hearing is PS4 and Xbox. Over and over and over and over and over again. The push from the under 16 demographic for Nintendo will be all but non-existent.

It's painfully obvious by now the WiiU has been a continuous face plant.

EVERYTHING Nintendo has done with the WiiU has been an epic failure, from the last gen anemic hardware, to the miniscule storage, casual gamer deterring controller, massive and lengthy day one download, excruciatingly long load times, lack of system selling launch games and the dearth of must have games since.

It's just been an absolute clusterf*ck from day one.

While true, having a fully HSA capable 8 core 18CU APU with 5GB GDDR5 RAM is about as close to future proofing as it gets.

Like Windows 8, the reveal dissed their existing base in service to some 'greater unified future' vision.

And got approximately the same response.

Sony has yet to put a foot wrong while Microsoft stumbles about like a drunken sailor ending up in the rose bushes.

That logarithmic performance extraction curve tells me the PS4 (and probably Xbox Infinity) graphics will already be so mind blowing and stunning by E3, Nintendo will probably just skip an E3 presentation to avoid the embarrassingly unfavorable comparison. Oh yeah ...

Heh, can you name a high end gaming machine with 8GB of GDDR5 fully unified system memory + 8 CPU cores and a 8770 class GPU running games written and optimized specifically for that particular system?

I didn't think so.

4065d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

Nope, you're not the only one. The reality of the PS4 substantially exceeds the most optimistic speculations I read of six months ago and beyond.

8 core CPU, 18cu 8xxx GPU and 8GB of GDDR 5 memory - all fully unified - it would have been considered crazy talk six months ago, beyond sane possibility. I know, that's what I predicted and that was the response I was getting.

It's really is a developers and gamers dream machine.

"this is intersting:
"Gustafson also expanded on the potential he thinks the PS4 has when it comes to purposes outside of gaming, especially if it were used as some sort of server. According to him, all it would take is a few modifications and you’d have an amazing computer platform for all kinds of purposes""

Sounds about perfect for Gabe's 'server' Steam Box. And for developers porting their games to Steam Box. AMD made clear on their...

Wii Y?

4080d ago 0 agree0 disagreeView comment

No way dude. The EA CTO said the PS4 is like 8-10x more powerful than the PS3, so the Wii Y is like ... ALMOST 20% AS POWERFUL AS THE PS4!!!. Not only that but the Wii Y is about to break into the magical 2x,xxx worldwide weekly sales bracket, so put THAT in your pipe and, like, smoke it, dude, you know?

When those developers see those 2x,xxx Wii Y weekly global sales, they're gonna be BEATING DOWN THE DOOR at Nintendo!!!

Thank heavens they're about to break into the 2x,xxx global weekly sales territory, that'll bring the developers a flocking to the door.
