It doesn't make a difference if the iPhone is not designed or primarily intended as a gaming device - you can still play games on it and many choose to do so. Did I ever say that people were buying it as primary handheld console? NO. I said there are a lot of people out there with an iPhone.

Ok, so the PSP and 3DS have sold millions, but how many iPhones are out there in comparison? The 4S sold FOUR MILLION IN THREE DAYS, the 3DS took a year to get to 3 million. Epic games are simply looking at the market and acknowledging a simple truth - there are more people out there with an iPhone (or another smart phone) than who will purchase a Vita. It would be a little bit stupid to risk your business on an as yet unestablished market versus a simply massive install base.

I would argue that it doesn't make a difference to game developers what the original design intent and primary purpose of the iPhone is - all they have to go on is the numbers that tell them millions upon millions of people own one and download a lot of games for it. The fact that it is first and foremost a phone does not eliminate the fact you can play games on it.
