yea that's mostly because sony is doing movies too and i don't knwo the exact numbers but i think sony is the second biggest filmstudio (biggest is warner of course) it's only logical that they use to introduce the new standard the only chance for hddvd was if they could have convinced warner (best argument is still $$$) to go with hddvd but luckily they weren't too greedy because a move like that would have splited the movieindustry and sony would have tried to get the other stuios on their ...
the disk(no matter what) won't disappear in the near future at least next 10-15 years , hell even here in germany the standard internet conection is currently still under 124kb/s and the maxspeed is just on 60mbit for a not financble price and from what i've seen from europe i can say that germany has really an excelent infrastructure compared to some other countrys so don't expect it too soon
