There are over 30 million Mac users so there are more Mac users than Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii users combined. However, not all of them play games on them, and not all can play the most recent games as some are years old, I'd imagine. With that said, I would guestimate a good 5-10 million use theirs for games but most are not hardcore gamers but rather casual gamers who use their Macs mainly for other things.

Not sure if you got the memo but for the last several years all Macs have Intel processors in them and can run Windows AND Mac OS X (as well as *BSD, Linux, etc.) natively. Ergo, all Macs can run Windows, use any PC graphics card and can run any game made for either Mac or PC.

Lastly, I don't think the iPod is the sole reason for Apple's renewed success. Having been a PC user for fifteen years now, and a Mac user for the last six or seven years (was a Commodore 64/Amiga user ...

Just so you know, all Macs made over the last few years have Intel (Dual Core) processors in them. What does that mean, you ask? That means that they can run Windows natively, as well as Linux, Mac OS X and a whole slew of other operating systems. So that means I can run Windows for games and Mac OS X for serious stuff. Just so you know...

Macs = PCs

Like Fanboi said, this is just a way for Sony to recoup some losses. It's a good thing they're outsourcing some of their manufacturing as it will allow them to build PS3's cheaper, and in doing so, pass along the savings to the consumer.

Awww. Poor Big Daddy. :P

Interesting e-mail/article. That's a true testament to the game maker, even if that wasn't their intention. As an aside, I can't wait to play Bioshock. Hopefully they'll release it on PS3, if not I guess I'll buy it for my Xbox 360...

I wonder why he doesn't release the source code to the software he wrote? He says you can make it yourself, which is true, but why not GPL it and release it in the wild? Why make redundant our efforts?

Cool hack, but it would have been even cooler if he had bought a cheap guitar, gutted the strings, pick-up and put all the guts inside an actual guitar...

From article, "Since then, Apple has never made another attempt to foray into gaming"

I've watched every bi-yearly Apple Keynote since 2000 or so and games are mentioned several times. Granted Apple could and should make a more concerted effort to appeal to gamers, but they have had several announcements (i.e. forays as you say) concerning games. Th...

I could have sworn there was another game that had nothing but bullets on its cover that preceeded Black.

Anyone remember other games that had bullets on the cover like this:

Agreed.

The linked article's author apparently does not understand the concept of "economies of scale".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wik...

He thinks that magically the PS3 would have arrived at a price much lower than it was released at if Sony had only waited. The only way Sony was able to pass on to the consumer a lower price was by making LOTS of units, thereby ...

Actually Apple and Microsoft have had a good relationship since Steve Jobs came back to Apple in 1997. Apple was having a lot of problems under previous management and Steve knew that in order to turn the company around Microsoft was pivotal. The most obvious sign of their renewed business agreements was that Microsoft agreed to support MS Office for Macintosh for, I believe it was, five years. In return, Apple put Internet Explorer on each Mac and made it the default web browser (later Mi...

@SlippyMadFrog: How, pray tell, are PS3 owners "f*(ked" if Blu-Ray fails?

Just because the movie format might not work is irrelevant to the success of the gaming system as a whole because the games will still be made regardless. Besides, I believe that this is the last optical media format that will be released (with the next MAYBE holographic) before we go entirely to digital downloads, rendering the Blu-Ray/HD-DVD format war obsolete.

Until then, ...

@Mark 1: Normally I would agree with you, considering I thought that Minidisc/ATRAC, Memory Stick and especially UMD were redundant by design (although one could argue Betamax was legitimate). However, I think Blu-Ray is actually less proprietary than HD-DVD and has more industry support.

Blu-Ray is hardly Sony's, considering the large consortium of technology companies that sit on the Blu-Ray Disc Association. For instance, you might have heard of these companies (who are on ...

Actually Microsoft is going to make an announcement with updated Zune sales numbers... I have an insider peek at what Bill Gates is going to say:

"Greetings. We're very proud here at Microsoft to inform you that we've sold four Zune players in fiscal year 2007!!! We're excited about this number and hope to ship another four players next year. Thank you!"

Besides, HD (live or otherwise) over the internet is going to CLOG even the highest broadband connection. You think you're going to be streaming lots of channels while simultaneously doing anything else on the internet? Think again, unless you have fiber to the door.

Call me when Microsoft actually does something innovative. I dare *anyone* to name one thing that Microsoft has actually ...

Awesome concept but as others stated, this thing will get a lot of people killed. While watching this I thought it was a truly astounding idea but then I thought about ARG (alternate reality games) which have been doing this type of thing for several years (both in and out of the real world), only without the dedicated handheld unit.

While you're entitled to your opinion, I think you're mistaken for thinking Ebert doesn't know what he's talking about with regard to movies. He won a Pulitzer prize and was nominated for an Emmy an astounding seven times. If you've read any of his books on film you'd know that he knows film more than anyone on the planet. He might watch the mainstream movies but from the books I've read that he's written he actually prefers the lesser known, independent films. He's hardly a pawn of the i...

Kigmal, I don't think Halo 3 has outsold Harry Potter or Spiderman 3 or Transformers just yet. Not by a long shot. I'm not saying it's not a huge seller or anything but the gross revenue of the worldwide sales of those aforementioned films is gigantic. Halo 3 will take months, if ever, to reach those numbers.
