^haha that one hurts, but about as objectively true as a comment can be.

I remember around release of the first one that some producers, or the studio, admitting that they were not going to touch 'hell'; that that whole part of the game's story, if you could call it that, was being rewritten into typical alien-virus-etc. just to not get anyone too flipped out...

and I agree. Event Horizon came out well before and very much did dive into the whole 'science leads straight to hell' direction...I'm guessing it was just becaus...

The character 'mario' has been in a bunch of games totaling almost a billion in sold units (880 million or something), but the highest selling single title remains the very first one, at around 40 million.

World of Warcaft: no idea on exact sales, but at some point in 2017 it still lead the industry in 'single game' revenues (over 10 billion), but mmo's break that comparison as it's hard to call them a single title.

Minecraft broke...

and it's a joke. A single attorney can write up some off the wall licensing, and it basically can give the receivers of crowd sourced funding freedom to do whatever they want with it. Typically crowd sourcing is funneled through some sort of...

It's hard to use crowd funding in this example, imo at least.

When 'real' publishers front a budget for a game pitch, there are rules involved...not crazy unheard of rules, just, in most cases, something concrete has to be made available in the form of milestones of development or something.

All i'm getting at is that 170 million and rising for Star Citizen still hasn't net an actual game. When the publisher is just 'people with mo...

exactly. Just this week there was an investor call with some EA suit droning on about FIFA's 35% buyer retention (35% of owners are engaging in mt's, i think?)...and it's printing money...heard about it on giantbomb's podcast. They're protecting the MT movement outside of the gaming communities to illustrate that they can still get high margin revenues despite what happened with battlefront 2.

they took one on the chin with battlefront 2, but they'll...

having not tried the VR version, I can't really say much...but logistically it seems to remove pretty much everything great about 2016's Doom, right?

The sp of that game was about YOUR movement and freedom...not looking around at how fast everything else was. I'm aware that non-VR videos do no justice, but it's just...odd to me. Doom wasn't a precision game, wasn't an ADS-centric shooter that rewarded getting into position and picking things off. It ...

IMO, eventually, one of the big publishers was going to get targeted for it. Start Wars helped the situation reach media that has a lot more to do with the world than just gaming sites...so that can't be ignored...

but sooner or later something like this was going to gather enough momentum and popular opinion. There's always been a vocal push back on gaming media about MT's...but there's also been a vocally happy group on the business finance side...turns ou...

'pretty bad year in stock growth' Translated: 'not as good as it could've been'...

it's still $33/share over its low for the year, which occurred in the very first days of trading for 2017.

All i'm getting at is that you're simplifying the finance side of it; I wouldn't bet money on them right now, either...but people that hold the stock, also, shouldn't dump it (especially now...should've done that over a month...

As an investment, that's a knee jerk reaction...EA's stock is still ~$25/share up for the year, and has seen nothing but year over year increases by a significant amount for quite a while.

Totally get what you're saying, pretty big dip the last couple weeks that is estimated to hit a $5 billion loss by the time it's all said and done...So it's definitely a 'message received' kind of thing, but as far as EA's long term damage this is nothing....

Why, again, is popularity the single metric for a game's success at a specific type of gameplay?

"So....you think that is just happening to a bad game?"

Interesting logic...I'd say I find Call of Duty as a franchise no better year over year than I do Maroon 5 or Pink's music...They've all been around for a decade and a half or more...they keep selling content like crazy...but, imo, they're no different than they were before.....

I don't use vote buttons, but:

Only trying to clarify an outside viewpoint a little...CoD isn't the 'king of competitive fps shooters'...it's the 'most well known and popular accessible fps shooter'...I'm only saying that because it continues to be a burden. Throwing around 'competitive' implies balance, and an emphasis on skill...direct variables that CoD as a franchise has systematically dissolved as much as possible in search of hi...

shortcut kits came around a year later iirc...and was based on the unreal amounts of complaints from newer players that were getting wrecked in game after a spring sale in 2014. The good news was that it never mattered, the unlock kits didn't make bad players automatically better...just gave them access to abilities they didn't understand or know how use.

Crates were in there from day 1.Again, I could be wrong about when the kits became an option as it was years ag...

That's a very different debate...I completely agree with you, but you very much can 'predict network stability'...it's just getting the network ready for BF4's launch was expensive, so they didn't do it...EA's been doing that for years, and i'm kind of blown away that BF4's release didn't net a similar push back as battlefront II has...just for different reasons.

All i mean is DICE and EA weren't sitting around in late 2013 saying...

^BF4 had crates from the beginning, and you could pay for sets of them on battlelog at the time (there were also sets of them included with premium, pre-ordering, etc.)...but they were filled with nothing but aesthetic changes, the 'other' versions of easily unlocked attachments... and xp bonuses (that the game gave out like candy anyway)...other than personal preferences for a certain type of weapon attachment, nothing in there gave any form of competitive advantage. The irony is that Uncharted is great enough that regardless of platform preferences...it's one of the best franchises of modern gaming...and only being a 'brand slave' nets ignoring that.

they are running on a 'pc emulator', that's the bet that is paying off with MS making 'xbox' use DX since the 360. It's a DX12 device forcing DX9 software on screen...the benefit of MS's tree'd graphics API's gen to gen (OG xbox wasn't part of it, though).

All of the xbox one platforms can emulate the entire 360 OS...not individual games; the entire xbox 360 operating system. Emulation isn't exactly efficient, though. But the Xbox...

it's pretty likely they'll tweak progression first.

It's important to note that a prime reason this game, Dice, and EA got raked through the coals to a viral degree...was that most of the progression in the game was randomized...not just time consuming, and not just that MT's allowed competitive advantage. Those are bad on their own, but without any 'path of persistence'...they're unforgiveable.

BF4 had mt's, and allowed pl...
