The smoke, dust and debris exploding from the pillars looks awesome. The selective environmental destruction reminds me of that arcade game "crisis zone" in a good way (and obviously looks 100 times better)!! I can definitely see myself just going around and shooting up the place!!

Didn't disagree with you, but it might just be that picture. When playing in first person its pretty obvious that the muzzle flash does affect what's in front and around the player as well.
Just look at this video check out the muzzle flash lighting at 3:00, 3:18(where the light from the helghast's goggles shines on his own arm as he performs a melee attack), 3:22, and 3:26. These are all good examples of the excellent lighting and muzzle flash in this game.
check out the lighting and self shadowing in the third shot. Even the bars cast shadows!!
the writer is just saying that while many downloadable games are smaller or incomplete games, Wipeout HD is as good as a full blu-ray game but as cheap as a downloadable title, and if Sony had chosen to release on blu-ray instead of psn they would still have been happy to pay full retail price for it.
Its not a criticism of digital distribution at all, rather a nod to Sony for giving us more than our money's worth with this game.

If they don't restart development of this game, I hope Uncharted's sequel will use some of these animation ideas, such as moving smoothly and continuously around a wall, sliding/diving into cover and the almost prone position you can get into depending on the size of the cover (with that last point, enemies in Killzone 2 already do this as you shoot away their cover). I hope this game gets restarted, but this tech demo has actually made me more psyched for Uncharted 2!

I don't know anything about the series, but my mate and I are still playing the demo daily, THE DEMO!! Its only got two characters! Yes, ITS THAT GOOD.
I forgot how freaking amazing Uncharted looks, anyone who thinks that game is cartoony just hasn't played it recently! Anyway Gears character models are really nice (love the detail in the armour and faces and the flamethrower), Some of the environment textures need work and from gameplay videos and screenshots, it appears they've toned down some of the lighting effects (probably to show of more of the character model). Impressive what Epic has managed to wrangle out of an updated UE3.

The shadows, lighting and blood at around 8 min 30 sec when he comes right up close to the first helghast is incredible, and the animation when he shoots the crouching helghast in the face with the revolver (helghast gets flung backwards, arms flailing and firing gun involuntarily) is so satisfying.
this article reads like one giant back handed compliment. They are really struggling to cheapen the impressive tech behind this game.

N'Gai doesn't have an issue with the game being set in Africa, his problem is with the presentation of the TRAILER. Many people will just see a white man shooting at a hoard of African villagers, cause essentially thats all the trailer is!
