The problem is that developers are pretending the last 7 years of progress never happened. Like they can make a game based off the WoW from 7 years ago and expect it to go head to head with the WoW of today. They're insane. They can say "yeah but wow had 7 years to get where it is, give us time". The WoW of 7 years ago doesn't exist anymore, you're competing with the WoW of today.

Greg Bear hinted that the spartan-IIs have some connection to one of the characters in the forerunner novels, and there's lots of speculation that Halsey herself could even be the librarian reincarnated (read the books to get what I mean). Seeing as H4 and on will have a lot coming from the forerunner novels, there's a chance this is true.
The fal lof Reach is probably the most important as far as defining the time period of the Halo games, but cryptum and primordium are extremely important in defining what will happen in Halo 4 and beyond.

Wow was made in a different time than TOR, since we can't go back in time 7 years, it's completely idiotic to compare TOR to it when it came out.
TOR tried to take on the exact same market WoW has, but with the added draw of star wars. However there is NO reason to play the exact same game minus a whole ton of its features and content.

In bungies annual themed christmas pictures, they have a picture with chiefs head turned away, with his helmet off. all you can see skin wise is a bit of his ear, which is white.
Not to mention marvel made a series of comics based on the novel fall of reach (and they were obviously doing this under 343's eye, so things are, more or less, canon), which show him as a child, face and all. He is white as white comes.
