Complete horse shit. I've been threatened with this action, and frankly I would tell them to go screw. It is a tough decision, especially for a small site that is looking to build relationships, not tear them apart. Nonetheless, it's important that companies like this get called out such that other ones don't repeat the same, unfair, manipulative practice. Effectively it's a reversed version of payola, better yet known as blackmail.
