Look at the console fanboys clamoring over visual upgrades. They claim consoles are cheaper, then get reamed by game prices. If this were a PC game, the HD version of this game would have been included in the game. Upgrading would be as simple as clicking a dropdown menu.

Games displayed a unique frame every monitor refresh (60Hz NTSC, 50Hz PAL) up until the N64. Once 3D was in, games commonly rendered at 20FPS (e.g. Ocarina of Time, Banjoe Kazooie, Goldeneye, Metal Gear Solid). Framerates stabilized at 30 during Gamecube/PS2. 60FPS became slightly more common during PS3/360.

So no, people haven't been gaming at 30FPS "for decades." You're just happy you're not getting the even-worse 20FPS of the first 3D generation of co...

Assuming you had put the cost of a PS3 at launch towards a $600 PC. By 2014 it'd be about as capable as a PS3 trying to run modern games (720p, <30fps).

But the second you put a 770 in it. Boom: your game library is now 1080p/60.

How does the PS2 run GTA3 today? Still 480i/20.
How does the PS3 run GTA5 today? Still 720p/20.

How will GTA3 and 5 run on that example system? 1080p/60.

I guess you played your PS3 games on thin air, too!

A steady framerate isn't the end-all of an enjoyable experience.

V-sync increases input lag. It is slightly more demanding, so v-sync may cause a framerate that's barely above the refresh rate to dip, cutting the framerate in half.

Tearing isn't always an issue without v-sync, and a framerate that's consistently between 40 to 50 will be smoother than only 30.

Let's do some math. 1280x720 @ 20fps is 18.4 MPixel/sec. I'll be running this game at 2560x1600 @ 60fps (turns out the game WILL run fine at 60fps). That's 245.8 MPixel/sec. If the PS4 is 40% faster than the XBO, that's 25.8 MPixels/sec.

245.8 / 25.8 = 9.5

My PC is 9.5 times faster than a PS4.

You may be asking yourself, "How can he afford such a fast computer?"

I ran GTA3 at 1280x1024 @ 45fps in 2002. Today, I can run GTA3 at 2560x1600 @ 60fps.

How does GTA3 run on the PS2 today? 480i @ 20fps. Same as it did in 2001.

The fact that Naughty Dog's Uncharted 4 is going to be 1080p/60 and look as good as it does undermines any argument that compromises need to be made.

What Multipass doesn't realize is that if he wants to keep playing his older games, he'll have to hold on to his older systems, which increases the overall hardware cost. Been a loyal Sony fan since 1995? $300 for PS1, $300 for PS2 ($200 if you traded your PS1 for a newly-launched PS2), $600 for PS3 (firmware removed PS2 backwards compatibility), $400 for PS4.

It would have cost $1500 over the years to be able to play Metal Gear Solid 1 through 5 right now.

I like how everyone's claiming another PS4 victory over XBO because the possible resolution difference. If 1920x1080 isn't immediately achievable, then any kind of decent anti-aliasing is out of the question.

What people are saying is that the E3 build is part of the product, they're just not accessible through the game's in-game graphical settings.

Maybe when the next next-generation of consoles come out that can actually run this game at these settings, they'll release a Watch_Dogs: E3 2012 Edition. PC users get it for free now.

Aiming from cars is abhorrent on a controller. There's has no auto-aim and the camera swings wildly.

The best part is that the PC version will includes multiple versions. Have a crappy PC? Minimum settings. Nice PC? Max settings. Beastly PC? Mods! All for the price of one game - $10 if you wait until the Steam Fall sale.

But for console users... only have a PS3? $60. Get a PS4? $60.

Framerate isn't just "locked." Frame times vary wildly and if you looked at a graph of frame times, it'd look like a bell curve. For a framerate to be capped at 30fps and never drop below, the game would have to be performing considerably higher than 30fps.

If you're on a notebook or desktop right now, go to your advanced display settings and force the refresh rate to 30Hz. You shouldn't need 60FPS to read text and occasionally click on stuff.

Look at all the next-gen consoles elitists. Anyone who argues the benefits of an XBO/PS4 over PC shouldn't even own a next-gen console.

#1 - Exclusives. XBO/PS4 are brand new and have almost no exclusives compared to PS3/360.

#2 - Price. If you think $400 for a console is cheap, you can get a 360 or PS3 for $200. Much less used. No reason to get a XBO/PS4 when most new games are cross-gen.
