You're right. The BitTorrent option was better. It DID take 7 hours in my case,, but I left the PS3 on overnight... so It shouldn't be that troublesome!

It finally worked when I used Firefox and I typed as fast as I possibly could.. worked after a dozen tries.
Also, choose a time when there is no heavy load on the servers... when it worked, it was around 6pm GMT...
