My last few months have been spent begrudgingly visiting Kotaku as some semblance of an alternative news source, but this was the last straw.
Their lust for poor, biting sarcasm and ignorant bias just crossed the line between fanboy and downright arrogant. To make matters that much worse, I doubt they'll ever have to humility to apologize for any remarks, but that's also a matter at hand.
This isn't just a "cultural difference" and it's not about blaming t...
Why aren't they on their own list?
..And managed to do so in but a handful of seconds.
Seriously, Insomniac is probably the single best stateside developer working today.
Wow, phenomenal revamp.
It's so clean, yet it doesn't feel sterile like so many other sites.
Props to all involved.
This is just a case where one (or many in this case) should simply turn the other cheek.
I watched the report, and while that woman did tick me off to no end, giving people like this negative attention is still attention.
Some people don't understand that it takes a long time to make 50+ hour games.
That's actually how I perceived Hitman in the beginning.
It was a brand new title, fairly experimental, which was clearly going to have sequels. In retrospect, I'd say that it had at least one common trait with some of the criticism that Creed is receiving now: AI issues. While it is kind of a let-down, it's a new IP (and in AC's case, a very large budget one) and it will take some time to get the bugs out. Nobody's perfect, and nobody can deny that Ubisoft tried their darnd...
In light of this whole ordeal, the numbering convention in reviews should be thrown out the window of a tall building to die from either the shock of the fall or the impact of hitting the pavement.
Honestly, if every possible source that relies on a number, and maybe even letter grades, to rate a game were to abandon it in favor of having the reader, listener, or viewer make their own decision based on context, we wouldn't be having this problem.
That said, I ...
Freaking unexpected!!
Now things may start getting interesting..
I have to call BS on this one.
* Focuses on style over substance
That never stopped Gears of War from meriting 10's across the board when there's nary a shred of story to be found.
* Gunfights often more grueling than fun
I don't see much in the review itself saying exactly WHY it's a chore.
Maybe if it had chainsaws and grisly bits every shootout, they'd think more of it.
You have every right to be confused about the media's behavior toward the PS3 and its titles.
I, for one, feel that they've become heavily jaded by the inclusion of multiplayer options in most of the larger budget titles for the 360. Sony and its developers seem to be more interested in providing a complete, intimate experience for the player. 360 titles (and the Wii, to a different extent), on the other hand, have put a major emphasis on gaming as a social activity. I've se...
Rather than disputing whether or not MGS4 will be multi-platform, I'd like to hope that instead of taking the Capcom route, Konami will potentially use the different consoles to try and appeal to different markets instead of forcing the same game onto each system. Currently, Konami is the only japanese game comapny of any sort that I trust not to screw up too badly. Seeing how they've managed to take the Castlevania franchise and spread the love pretty evenly over the past few years, I'm fa...
..satisfying.
I've spent the past month and a half wanting this game pretty badly, and the brief, positive review was a breath of fresh air for me after all of the somewhat long-winded reviews detailing Assassin's Creed today.
I want to buy this Day 1, but we'll see how that goes.
While Bioshock is a good game, perhaps even a great one, the port for which many are clamoring would likely do more harm than good.
Bioshock's success came from its release period. On the tail end of the calm before the storm.
Chances are, if it ever were to be on PS3, it'd get lost in an untimely flurry of other games and everyone would suffer. Imagine a Bioshock PORT competing with GTA IV and DMC4 sales or LittleBigPlanet's release in early 2008.

You know, this seems a bit far fetched, but could it at all be possible that the varied framerates in question regarding the PS3 version could be attributed to any of the half dozen different editions that are currently floating around out there?
It's just a speculation given the differing issues I've seen people have with their 80GB and 40GB editions.
I'm not trying to point any fingers, just putting it out there. I've never been one to listen to gamespot, but ...
I'll wait on some actual full reviews before making my final verdict, but having played the demo, Uncharted feels like playing a nickel store pulp novel gone modern. The Indiana Jones comparisons are growing a bit tired, but this game has certainly captured the feel of what old movies would feel like if they were told today and made interactive.
My favorite nuance in the whole presentation is just how imperfect Nathan is portrayed. He's somewhat unsure of himself and startl...
After having dropped the ball on DMC4:SE by not including all of the aired episodes of the new Devil May Cry anime, Sony (and I suppose Capcom as well) need to put more care into how they present their releases. This could be a good start, but they need to try harder still.
Granted, it's a poor movie, at least it'd be something if it turns out to be true.
Wow, I thought I'd be one of the few to be disappointed in this title, but after having watched the GameTrailers review this morning and seeing the blissfully ignorant AI in action, I didn't think it would be too long before other reviews began to surface detailing other mechanics that began to feel like more of an afterthought.
The marketing for this game has been brilliant, as are the production values of the title itself, but creating a full, living, breathing open world sce...
Barely an hour ago, I was comparing EA's upcoming renaissance to Activision's rise to prominence regarding derivative titles.
I somewhat like the new EA. Activision has taken the throne.
However, I do doubt that a game as far along as this with the quality of the cast involved would just get dropped entirely.
Furthermore, there was news out there about Tim Schafer being unhappy with Activision and deciding to leave anyway. Yet another Double Fine cre...
