It's not so much console gamers that can't recall him, but more so the ages of I suspect a lot of young gamers on N4G. Carmack is old-school so he's sort of forgotten in this day and age as a headline game designer.
He ushered in 1st person shooters but I still wouldn't put him above Miyamoto. He's definitely on THE top 10 list, no question about it.
Miyamoto truly is the greatest developer of all time. The man's list of accomplishments could fill a book. The guy developed Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, Pikmin and Star Fox. 3 of those games helped jump-start my gaming career as a child.
He helped Nintendo develop all their consoles, starting with the NES, which by the way SAVED gaming as we know it today. He's been in the industry for over 30 years. No other creator can say that.
He is the Go...
This might be too throwback for some of you, but that pic makes her look like Atreyu from the Never-ending Story. Anybody else see it besides myself?

Couldn't even thank the man for coming to THEIR studio and doing an in-person, live interview. FOX is such a terrible "news" service.
D3 PLEASE! And make the beta available to me ASAP!
He throws in COD. I would agree that it's a great series, but which COD he's referring to depends on his definition of "great game". If he's talking about the ORIGINAL COD, or even COD:MW then I'd agree with him. If he's talking about any of the others then I'd disagree.
And Halo:CE was definitely a winner in my book. H2 brought great multiplayer, poor SP. Reach was good but I haven't finished it yet and the multiplayer feels a bi...
Oh man, I forgot about Magic Carpet. That game was a lot of fun to play back in the day.
Pretty standard fare as for requirements. I have high hopes for this game. If it's close to the original KUF, then it should be a blast to play.
This guy is the real life Gordon Gekko. I can appreciate his desire to be successful and push his company to be not only profitable but a juggernaut within the industry. Still, video games are an art-form in my mind and his attitude doesn't jive well with the mindset most people have about video games and why they are made.
This is a culture of creativity, not assembly line production where you pump out products for profit at the expense of the artist's vision. H...
Honestly, that's like saying we all would go back and change the way we did things when we were kids because of our "legacy". Nobody cares what they did when they were 10-15 which is probably a lot of N4G members ages. What you did as a child has no bearing on your ADULT life and no cares if you talk smack on an online gaming site. No one will remember these comments in 1 year, much less a lifetime. Get REAL!
I don't know what to say to your comment other than you're simply reinforcing my point. The fact that older engines are being adapted to new architecture is exactly the problem ie. UE3. That's why companies like Crytek, Guerrilla Games, ID, etc. have adopted proprietary engines to utilize the unique architecture of todays new hardware. And it's only finally coming out after almost 5 years into the PS3's life-cycle.
Developers and programmers alike did...
Just like business's adapting to the emergence of the internet, so will programmers have to adapt to the new influx of programming techniques and requirements inherent with the new hardware adaptations. It's all a progressive industry and the sooner programmers stop FIGHTING the advancements and EMBRACE them, companies will be better off and gamers will reap the benefits.
It's really no surprise why so many development teams struggle adapting older engines to n...
Good for Bungie. They deserve a curtain call like this. A lot of years they've put into this franchise so it's only fitting they leave in this way. Kudos to 'em.
The truth is that our world is moving more and more into a multinational, multifaceted environment. Communication across continents instantly, dl's from anywhere in the world, the internet, etc.; They've all made the jump. It's only natural that gaming takes this course as well. Our world gets smaller and smaller each and everyday and I for one am glad that some much of multi-player and co-op is being integrated into games. It's come such a long way from where a lot of gam...
Well I guess we can all agree that gaming has come A LONG WAY since 1999. And to look back on the NES and Atari days, geez... I'm pretty happy with the current state of gaming. If people complain about graphics NOW, it's simply because they don't remember where gaming actually started.
Pic or it didn't happen.
I guess if you keep placing your hand on an oven and it burns you, you'll eventually figure out that it's a bad idea to continue. I've always liked a lot of your comments DR, but that doesn't come off as intelligent behavior.
I personally thought that was a terribly written review. The whole misstating of the StarCraft terminology and her comparisons to GOW and Halo just seemed too out of place. This was something G4 asked her to put together quickly so they had a review up. Seems to me she tried to come off too witty and sarcastic and ended up coming off dry and synthetic. Next time Morgan, try and write a legit review that doesn't belong in the funny column of Old Wizard.com
You don't watch a show because of a dental imperfection? So there's probably not anything you can watch on television because ALL people have some imperfection somewhere. Well, maybe you don't, but I won't try to get into a back and forth with you. That's just kind of silly to point something like that out. This isn't People Weekly, this is N4G. We're not here to talk about visual appeal, unless it's Olivia Munn...
Japanese development companies require too strenuous working conditions that aren't conducive for developers to individually succeed long-term.
12+ hours a day for a decade would burn anyone out, and since Japanese culture makes leaving a company like leaving your family, it's difficult for these guys to move on.
I say American publishers pick these Japanese legends up and give them a team with the financial backing to succeed, and they'll tur...
