I think a lot of it has to do with that console shooter developers are kind of made redundant these days. They never pushed design as much as PC devs, and now with PC devs working on console games, the standards have risen a lot and stuff like Haze or Timesplitters doesn't cut it.

Well you forgot to mention one thing, Sony and Microsoft can't make money off of it. As long as people have PCs, they'll play games on them, the thought that somehow huge corporations are going to continue to lose billions of dollars to wedge it out is just asinine.
It would seem unwise to totally cancel Need For Speed, it really needs a reboot though.
New consoles wont be coming out for 4 years or so, so I wouldn't expect anyone to know much about them. What they developer will largely be based on where the markets go in the next 4 years.
To be fair, GTA4 hit a high saturation point in the US. The PC version was likely designed more for European markets where consoles don't have as high of a sales marketshare.

Microsoft helped push back the PC being the home of FPS games a lot. Not sure why tbh, they never really made any money doing any of it.

I know what you mean, I loved the original PSX game a lot. I'd buy a PS3 if they made a new one for it.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow Of Chernobyl is a good example of a modern game with a lot of survival horror elements, ammo is limited, there are powerful monsters, creepy atmosphere, but most of the game is fighting regular soldiers, or regular in the game's context. It would be cool if GSC developed a game like Stalker but totally horror/sci-fi focused. Shame that today survival horror games tend to be gone, not that good, or turned into almost pure action games. Would really recommend Stalker to ...
From what I can tell, no one would be interested in this game if it weren't PS3 exclusive. I mean really it sounds like a long QTE and if it's like their last game, the story will probably fall apart and get really stupid have way through.
Looks a little bit better, the AA especially, along with the performance being better. The shadows especially pretty big.
Their first party games are kind of irrelevant now, multiplat is what everyone is doing, I mean COD5 probably outsold Gears Of War 2 by a good margin, and Fallout 3 Fable 2 by a pretty big margin, in either case, GTA4 selling more than all of their first party games combined more than likely, they probably didn't make a year end profit either. So my point being, Nintendo and the 3rd parties won, they don't even really have a Gears Of War 2 of Fable 2 for next year, outside of mayble Halo ODST...
I'm not really an expect on the Japanese game industry, but from what I can tell, Square just published a lot of these games. the developers probably made them on the 360 because it's much cheaper to develop for, and they don't really feel like expanding as much as they'd need to multiplat development, for Square's case, I believe this is a none issue, so their in house games are likely to be released on all platforms now.

I don't really see how publishing Supreme Commander 2 really makes them Microsoft's lap dogs. Most of those crappy RPG games they published were even developed by them either I think.
