You must be fun at parties.
The author makes it clear that Battlefield 1 very obviously "gamifies" certain aspects of the experience to make it more fun (see the campaign, for instance). However, his claim that Battlefield 1's multiplayer comes closer than any video game before it to depicting WWI accurately is perfectly sound, even if you don't agree with every single point.
You know that's not at all what the title is saying, I hope.
Enough time has passed to allow BotW to sit and murmor, and it's now easier to take a step back and look at the game objectively in a non-biased way.
The author IS NOT claiming that BotW gets a "free pass" from criticism. For the love of all that is good in the world, I have no idea how you came to this conclusion.

Hot Take: It was worth playing back in 2015.
If price isn't a factor, the game is far better than what people gave it credit for. I got it for $20 during an Amazon deal and enjoyed the campaign for what it was.
