If this is the case we should call core gamers as shooter gamers. For many core gamers, myself included, we like everything that is sophisticated and fun, casual or not!

I think Mr. Kotick is high on his success. Recently he declared no support for PS3 if Sony doesn't drop the price soon and now this?

The misconception here is that somehow, with just a bios upgrade the PS3 can do 3D games tomorrow and no other systems can! Not true. Remember even the 8 bit Sega Master System had 3D games. Sega added stereo scopic 3D games to its 8bit system without a bios upgrade! So all this talk about a system needing a bios upgrade to do 3D game is probably PR talks to make it sounds like they are unlocking some hidden power in the system.

The issue here is that steroscopic games requ...

Dan has got to choose his words more carefully otherwise he risks being labeled as arrogant. He may have an awesome game here, but leave some rooms for gamers to spread the praise when the game actually ships.

Come on jealous folks. When Sony showed a mocked demo of Kill Zone 2 four years before the game was finished, I didn't sense as much resentment as I see with Natal now. By showing this much jealousy you are only confirming that MS is hitting on something big that perhaps your other favorite systems won't have.

Microsoft has shown that it is not shy of letting go of brands it believe does not fit into its overalll business strategy. Emsemble, FASA studios were just a few recent example. But RARE is still around. So folks, most of us (save Microsoft) don't have enough info to make intelligent statement about whether RARE is worth it or not. So quit making these claims pretending you know something.

Kodu is not a game and it is not a platformer like some have said. It is a tool to build game on a very high level. User can make just about any type of game they want, not just platformer. Folks before you comment on what Kodu is, please read on what it is first before making assumption that it tries to copy LBP.

Expectation was that with the huge success of the PS2 and with blue-ray packed in and with hype of the CELL technology, Sony would have had PS3 locked to lead the sales race within a year from release. Sure the 360 was released a year earlier, but expectation was that PS3 would beat it to pulp sales wise by now. None of that happened by a long shot.

By this measure, PS3 is really not doing okay.

This should not be even a debate. If we are comparing games that come out within 6 months of each other, then yeah. By the time GT5 ship, it Forza 2 code base would have been 3 years old!

Capcom has always been my favorite publisher back since the Street Fighter II days. We need more original games Capcom. Not another DMC so soon!

But what are people commenting about? When I heard IBM was designing all the CPUs for the then next gen machines, I was wondering how did Sony and Microsoft let that happened. Surely Sony or Microsoft must have thought about their secret blue print having had a very good chance of leaking to the other rival. In the end, one partner (MS) benefited more than the other (Sony). Can't wait to read the book.

Most of us (fanboy or not fanboy) expected that when the PS3 came out, regardless of price, it would destroy the 360 just on the merit that there were more than 120 millions PS2 users out there. Nearly everyone assumed that most third parties developers would automatically put their best games exclusively on the PS3. Even Sony themself thought they had these users and third party developers locked up.

Sitting on such a huge and comfortable cushion, Sony acted like any c...

This is the point the author of this article did not see. It is not that developers are lazy, but when a studio have 100 developers working on a game, the resource strain is insane. Obviously they would want to finish making the game ASAP. Since PS3 development is much harder, bringing PS3 games to the level of the 360 just take too much more time and money; why would they want to do that when that extra cost could be the difference between making a profit or posting a lost?

This is not about telling the truth, but it is all about loyalty and protecting the image of the "hand that feed you". All companies keep certain quality control issues from the public. If Microsoft built a hidden routine to steal user confidential data in the system, then it maybe appropriate to go forward. But for this it is hardly appropriate. If this employee is not punished, all hell will break loose at every major corporation on earth.

Microsoft certainly realize that closing down major brand studios like Ensemble would not resonate well with the public. They must have another strategy in place to combat the negative publicity. Perhaps they believe supporting new independent studios that had close tie with the in the past would bring much better quality titles to their platform? Some one have a clue on what Microsoft grand plan is?

I was a hardcore gamer in the SNES/Genesis days. Now I consider myself an advanced casual gamer. There are zillions of self respecting gamers like me who think the 360 core is great at $199. That's all I will need to fix my occasional urge to play. So Microsoft is very smart for giving customers choices.

It is a myth that the 360's motherboard and its chips get hotter the longer the system is played continuously. The 360's motherboard and its enclosure should reach its average operating temperature rather quickly, less than 10 minutes after the machine is turned on. This average temperature will be fairly constant for the duration of the game session, spiking occasionally during heavy load scenes.

Think of this as turning on your baking oven. It takes several minutes for a...

In Europe market share is close but Microsoft is still holding about 1 million system lead over PS3. In the US, 360 lead sales in March and April 08 by a very slim margin. We may as well call it a tie factoring in statistical error. And in Japan, well seem like 360 is stuck under 10K/month for I don't know how long.

Mark is talking about "diminishing return" as the whole industry pushes for movie realism. At current level not much more can be done to wow people. We are at a point where doubling the number of polygons does not make the cars in say PGR4 twice as nice looking as the ones in PGR3. This is probably why Rockstar chose to shy away from the more realistic style of Call of Duty 4. Games like COD4 are already descent approximation of movie realism. But to get to where game visuals b...

Microsoft and Sony will revise their system over the years to bring cost down. For Sony, they already cut cost with the latest revision by removing backward compatibility chipset as well as smaller hard drive and fewer usb ports. For Microsoft, their current Falcon model has a smaller 65nm CPU among other things.

These cost cutting revisions should not be considered as upgrades because they do nothing to make the systems more powerful.
